Are these shoes appropriate for work?

Following on from another thread, I have bought some summer work dresses. I never usually go bare legged to work, I’m always either in tights with a dress or trousers. This summer I’ve decided to ditch the tights as the office is so hot. The problem is, deciding what shoes to wear.

I work in a professional role where I am required to wear business dress. It is very male dominated so not many women to take the lead from style wise!

Would these shoes be ok for the workplace? If not, could you please link appropriate shoes? Side note - I always have a pedicure, no cracked heels etc.

No open toe in the office. I'd go for slingbacks or canvas wedges.

T-bar style pumps (a bit Mary Jane ) are back in fashion.

Do you have any links? Please!

NatashaDancing · 29/05/2023 17:57

They're fine. I'm a partner in a large, private client, non- legal aid, non- criminal law practice. As long as you haven't got fungal toe nails I would have no problem with you wearing them.

Tartanpink · 29/05/2023 18:00

A varied opinion here! I think I’ll go rogue and wear them one day that I know I’m going to be in the office all day. I’m in on Wednesday and will stick to my usual trouser suit and loafers (despite the scorching weather!) and will keep an eye on what other women are wearing on their feet (in the least weird way possible)

I'm go to go against the grain and say I think they are suitable. I work in a formal business environment and wouldn't bat an eyelid at someone wearing the sandals in the OP.

Nor would I. I'd prefer them over the trainers worn with dress in the OP's other picture.

LaCerbiatta · 29/05/2023 18:04

What's wrong with toes, why would they not be appropriate? Honest question, I'm not British and never understood this...

Is it like a very short skirt or deep cleavage? Doesn't make sense to me...

dinmin · 29/05/2023 18:11

Fisherman sandals (so not showing whole chunks of toe) or backless loafers?

Backless loafers to me look less formal than open toed sandals.

und · 29/05/2023 18:21

I would definitely chance wearing them, OP. I've seen open toe in quite formal environments.

Banana1979 · 29/05/2023 18:31

Depends where you work
i work in an office and both these are fine in my workplace

Thanks all, could anyone recommend a type of shoe that could be worn with a dress like this? Ideally no heel or very low heel.

I’m not office based all of the time, I go in and out of police stations, people’s homes, schools a couple days a week.

It’s much easier for men who can just shove on a suit! Although very warm for them in this weather

I'd wear loafers. In fact I do.

Ballet pumps or low heeled court shoes.

Ballet pumps aren't very professional.

NatashaDancing · 29/05/2023 18:45

Nonsense.

Stripedbag101 · 29/05/2023 18:45

It’s probably more a matter of taste. I dislike seeing colleagues feet! I also dislike colleagues in shorts. It looks odd in work but I am starting to think I’m an old grump!

I would wear something like this rather than those very open shoes

NatashaDancing · 29/05/2023 18:46

Sorry that was in reply to luckylavender.

blahblahblah1654 · 29/05/2023 18:47

Why aren't ballet pumps professional? Not everyone can wear clunky court shoes.

Those are very nice. And office suitable (as are ballet flats)

Of course they are professional and perfectly fine for office wear.

DelphiniumBlue · 29/05/2023 18:52

I think they perfectly fine for work.
I used to work in law back in the day when everyone wore a suit for work, and even then black sandals with a block heel were fine. If you can wear a ( less formal than a suit) flowery dress, those sandals are fine.

Augend23 · 29/05/2023 18:56

To be clear, I don't much care about toes or otherwise in offices, but I think I would be wary wearing something with so much of your foot exposed for being in and out of multiple environments unless you know what they're going to be like.

Same as wearing closed toe shoes for lab work or whatever.

eurochick · 29/05/2023 18:56

I think they are fine. Some of these views seem very outdated to me (and until recently I was a partner in a law firm - not an environment renowned for being too casual!). Ten years ago I would have said no open toes in the office. Now I think it's fine.

If you have hideous feet and nails, give them a tidy up before sharing them with the world whether at work or not!

I have no problem with trainers with suits - ballet flats are fine!

but toes - ewww 🤮

I like these. I however do not want to pay 84 for them.

That's a sensible comment.

No, always wear closed toes in the office.

Why? I find closed toe’s unbearable when it’s hot.
