Does anyone use Vick's vapo-rub as a moisturizer?

Today my friend told me she uses Vick's vapo-rub as an all-over body moisturizer every night.

Apparently she's done this for years and was under the impression that it was pretty common.

I'm under the impression she's an absolute nutjob.

As well as it being super moisturizing, she said she likes the cold tingly feeling 😱😱

Has anyone heard of this? Does anyone do it? Or does everyone do it and I'm just out here like a fucking loser with my body lotion?

She must be made of sterner stuff than the MNer’s DH of many moons ago, who fainted after using Original Source Peppermint shower gel on his balls.

PinkRiceKrispies · 25/05/2023 19:08

I use it on my feet. Not whole body though !

isthismylifenow · 25/05/2023 19:10

I've used it on feet, for a cough.

And on the chest.

Is she really big of chest by any chance?

Someone once used VVR for piles. Lawd just the thought of that must have sent the piles right back in.

Maybe it's the new bicarb, useful for everything. (according to SM that is).

She's barmy...or should I say balmy? arf arf

I skim read this. And got to number 4 and thought I don't know any cat that would be very happy being plastered with Vicks because they had an itch.

Then I read it again 😂😂

countvoncount · 25/05/2023 19:15

My eyes are literally streaming at the thought
Clearly she mustn't read in bed

WhereAreWeNow · 25/05/2023 19:39

Your friend is nuts! Quite apart from the eye-streaming tingliness of it, it's super greasy. It's basically vaseline with added camphor and eucalyptus. She must be a major fire hazard! And she must stink of camphor! Why?!

jay55 · 26/05/2023 09:13

I use it to prevent fungal infections on my toenails. Anything more would be masochism.

openstop · 26/05/2023 09:16

What if it gets where it shouldn't?

Hopefully she doesnt smoke

DitherDother · 26/05/2023 09:20

I use it daily on my feet to keep my fungal toe nails under control and the bonus is that it is an effective moisturiser. It also means my hands and cuticles get cared for daily.

I can't imagine putting it all over though.

QueefQueen80s · 26/05/2023 09:54

Yep someone told me she did this recently, uses it as a moisturiser and to massage sore muscles.

TomatoSandwiches · 26/05/2023 10:04

No it's not normal but neither is getting completely naked to have a poo which is also a thing I found out some people do on Mumsnet 😂

I used to work with someone that tipped their head right back at their desk and dripped Olbas Oil straight into their nostrils and snorted it back, to clear their sinuses several times a day, every day. Maybe they're related.

😱I love the smell of Olbas oil but that is crazy. It would burn their mucus membranes really badly.

How is using something with menthol for clearing breathing passage ways going ti do anything on your feet?

Coronationstation · 26/05/2023 13:45

I once tried putting it on my feet to help with a cough. It did nothing to help the cough and I nearly broke my neck in the shower the next morning so I guess that's one way to cure a cough

powerrangers · 26/05/2023 13:48

I don't want the moisturising qualities of turpentine oil. I can think of a thousand emollients I would prefer to use.

RisingSunn · 26/05/2023 13:49

😂 I use it not as a moisturiser - but rub it on if I have an ache or pain.

NewUserName2023 · 26/05/2023 14:00

Does she live alone?

MuddaUdders · 26/05/2023 14:05

If she uses that as a moisturiser, what go-to product does she apply/ use when she actually has a stuffy nose!?! Confused

PerryMenno · 26/05/2023 14:06

Ew, does she wake up with the sheets glued to her?

JosieOhNo · 26/05/2023 14:45

The feet thing is real, it does help clear the airways - same kind of principles as reflexology, in that there's pressure points on your feet connected to everywhere in your body.
Used to work a treat when my little one was ill - if I'd rubbed it on his chest he would have rubbed it off and tried to eat it 😂

WeThreeKingsofOrientAre · 26/05/2023 14:48

Feet yes. As a moisturiser anywhere else, hmmm let me see, that’s a No from me.
