Looking for a really good foundation

hermansherman · 22/05/2023 19:55

Can anybody please recommend me a really good foundation?

I currently use Estée Lauder double wear which I used to love but I'm finding it's becoming quite cakey on my skin. My skin isn't great but isn't terrible - it's quite blotchy.

I am very pale and find even the palest shades look orange on me.

I'm looking for full coverage.

I tried the one that's always shown on Facebook - can't remember the name - and that was probably the worst foundation I've ever used 🤣☹️

Any help would be massively appreciated!

Thank you 😊

Dior forever. You can ask for a small sample pot

beachcitygirl · 23/05/2023 11:12

I'm a DW afficianado too but also as I've got older find it a bit cakey.
Three that I've found good
Armani luminous silk
Clinique even better
IT CC cream

didn't work:
Charlotte tilbury airbrush
Chanel Les fluids

I have just tried the double wear light & I really like it although coverage definitely not as full.

I've just bought vieve modern radiance concealer & skin dew primer & I'm singing hallelujah-

For bad skin days I use the skin dew & concealer first and then dw light & on good days just either or.

Of the foundations recommended on the thread, I'd say only the IT Cosmetics has a coverage anywhere near DW. The new DW sheer (which replaced DW light when it was discontinued) lasts as long as DW but as others have said, it's definitely not full coverage.

Cakey46 · 23/05/2023 15:34

I can really recommend Dcypher custom foundation. They match to a picture of your face and you choose the coverage and mat/dewyness you want then a few days later a little bottle of magic arrives in the post.
I wish they did powder and concealer. It was interesting that they said I was a pale warm which I never would have guessed but the shade is spot on.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 23/05/2023 15:36

I love DW its my favourite!!!!! But how well it goes on / stays on can vary depending what moisturiser I am using underneath! Have u tried changing your moisturiser/ primer first?

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 23/05/2023 15:38

Shiseido.

Best foundations, best tinted moisturiser.

Moonshine5 · 23/05/2023 22:24

@hermansherman it is quite yellow base. Try Il makiage that definitely isn't and has good coverage. Also for primer try Refy or Vasanti and Bobby Brown extra illuminating moisture balm batter glow on cheeks before foundation for a radiant summer glow.

MyLeftShoeLeaksSockGrease · 23/05/2023 22:28

Another vote for Dcypher. Only foundation that’s ever matched my skin.

hermansherman · 23/05/2023 23:04

@Moonshine5

Il makiage was the Facebook one I tried - it was unfortunately the worst foundation I've ever used 😭 I don't know if it's my skin or what but it was terrible.

I definitely need to look into better primer too I think! I currently use no7 primer which I always loved but even that's starting to feel a bit slimy!

Thank you!!

I second even better by Clinique. Would say it is quite good coverage. Good for combo skin.

Moonshine5 · 23/05/2023 23:20

@hermansherman sorry I couldn't be more helpful definitely worth trying the primers. Also magic cream Charlotte Tilbury is a good moisturiser

Dior Capture Totale Serum Foundation

Was also previously using EL Double Wear but my skin started looking textured and dry and uneven in it.

The Dior one is so lovely, it’s improved my self esteem as I smile when I look in the mirror now!

SequinDiscoBiscuits · 23/05/2023 23:32

Another vote for Armani, but alsy try the colour matching selfie camera on Lancome online, as their foundation is great too.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/05/2023 23:34

You need the Estee Lauder Futuristic, like DW but with a lovely sheen/glow.

FrazzledMCPremenopausalWoman · 23/05/2023 23:34

Il Makiage. I thought it was one of those FB advert cons at first but did my research and bought a bottle. It's expensive but they do offer a money-back guarantee if you don't like it for any reason at all. Total game changer for me, it gives lovely coverage, goes on easily, sits nicely all day and doesn't look heavy or "made-up". The big win for me is that my ridiculously sensitive, acne-prone skin doesn't react to it at all.

FrazzledMCPremenopausalWoman · 23/05/2023 23:38

Sorry I've just seen that you tried il makiage and didn't like it. Can I ask did you apply with the brush that came with it? I could not get on with their brush at all - it was way too firm and I ended up looking like I'd been sponge-painted by a toddler... but it went on a dream with my usual Body Shop brush. Oddly, I've also found it goes on much better (and stays in place much longer) without primer.

Leapintothelightning · 24/05/2023 00:00

Second MAC StudioFix - I'm super pale and have found a match there no bother. I like NYX Can't Stop Won't Stop too as a nice budget option.
Like you I struggled with Il Makiage - which was devastating as everyone else seemed to rave about it!

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 24/05/2023 00:55

If you don’t mind spending, ilia tinted serum is the best I’ve ever tried.

youveturnedupwelldone · 24/05/2023 04:21

Mac face and body is my newest rediscovery for summer. It's really buildable and looks gorgeous all day - doesn't cake at all and has a lovely glow to it. I've got quite dry skin and it's great.

SueblueNZ · 24/05/2023 04:57

I too am wanting a change from ELDW. It's no longer doing it for me but I do like the coverage. This week I am trying out Clarins Everlasting from a sample pot - it has the same degree of coverage and is about the same price. I'll see how it goes.
Has anyone else tried Everlasting?

Yes I have. I also used to use DW, but it's just too drying for (in my case, older skin). Then I changed to clarins True Radiance which I loved. But of course they discontinued that (because I really liked it sigh) so I bought the Everlasting as a replacement. I found it a bit drying once again. So then I moved on to EA flawless finish which is what I am using now. It's quite light so not full coverage. So it's my day one now.

So because EA is made by Revlon, I bought a few Revlon options for a bit more full coverage for night time or I want a change, and found the tube of Colorstay full cover. It's really great, probably the closest I found to DW without the cakeyness. But the whipped mousse one is pretty good too. For the price I think it's worth a try. The only issue is finding the right colour match as the range isn't huge.

I have a vast range now that I am getting though slowly, but I wouldn't pay out for the Clarins Everlasting now. It's not their best one imho.

SueblueNZ · 24/05/2023 05:53

That's useful info @isthismylifenow. I am only on day one, so far so good - it has lasted 11 hours with no change.
Prior to ELDW I used Revlon Colourstay in the bottle; it was fine. I think if I can't find a good replacement for DW I may return to the Revlon option. I haven't tried their tube one with full cover. May do that.

peachicecream · 24/05/2023 06:06

I second Mac Studio Fix.

I never used to spend more than £10-15 on foundation but I tried this for my wedding and I'm a convert now. It's great.

If you have a Mac store near you they can colour match your skin, too.

On the back of this, I have used the Everlasting this morning to see how I feel about it now, although it has been sitting for some time. Straight away I got that patchiness, so although its on for today lol, I don't think its the right one for me anymore either. But then again, as we are going into winter things are drying up even more, so perhaps its better in the summer.

I didn't like that Colorstay in the bottle much either, I cannot put my finger on why exactly now, I think its just too heavy.

This is one. I have shade 107 in Everlasting and 150 buff in the Revlon if that helps at all.

In the whipped, sand beige shade 200.

DW shade Fresco.

ColorStay Full Cover™ Foundation Makeup
