Elegant neutral cushioned sandals

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 07/05/2023 20:42

Any help appreciated! I always wear gold havainas - basically all summer- but last year found the cushioning on them isn’t enough for my increasingly dodgy knees (45). Am looking for an elegant, either neutral or gold sandal that has a bit more cushioning. I’ve tried Birkenstocks and I like them on others but they make me feel like a granny. I like the ones below but dubious they have enough cushioning.
im thinking flat but a small heel that was comfy could work.
any options appreciated!!

@SpeedyMackechnie - if you don't mind me asking, how is the material for the straps? Is it very soft or likely to rub? Is the ankle strap quite wide (I'm plus sized)

Not worn them for any length of time yet, but they are honestly so comfortable on, and I think would be quite roomy around the ankle if needed. I don't have particularly slim ankles and wear them on the tightest hole.

SpeedyMackechnie · 08/05/2023 21:18

And the material is very soft and flexible so I don't think likely to rub.

If you love your Havaianas, try Archies, a flip flop with arch support.

BambooForDinnerAgain · 09/05/2023 07:06

I’ve just bought these - Joseph Seigel, not cheap but so comfortable amd loads of support.

I have the same ones as BambooForDinner.

They are really comfortable all day wear. I have arthritis in my knees and these are well cushioned without being spongy.

I am now into my third pair (over about 5 years).

Catspyjamas17 · 09/05/2023 10:01

There are so many kinds of fit flops now and some rather elegant. They were the only sandals I could wear comfortably when I had a heel spur injury in 2017 (had insoles in all other shoes), and I still have the two pairs I bought then, one pair I go in the sea in, they are indestructible also.

Tinpanalley · 09/05/2023 13:26

Following with interest but anyone managed to find sandals like the ones suggested here with leather footbeds? Not a fan of synthetic footbeds in the heat. So impractical and uncomfortable. Can’t stand sweaty feet slipping around on plastic.

Mirabai · 09/05/2023 13:27

The ones I posted above have leather (suede) footbeds.

Tinpanalley · 09/05/2023 13:44

Thanks but the description says man made. I think they’d be a bit wide too.

They really are Fitflops last forever

Good Lord you’re right. Faux suede is so good these days I thought it was real.

I thought they might be too wide as my feet are narrow but they’re actually fine.

The Joseph Seigel ones above have leather uppers and leather sole.

Fiflops and Birkenstocks are just too fugly for me.

I can spot them a mile away. I noticed some JL Anyday sandals were listed as having leather insoles. I wasn’t convinced. Had a look in store and saw they were plastic.

The Joseph Seigel’s definitely look like quality.

BambooForDinnerAgain · 09/05/2023 15:02

They are quality - more than I’d wanted to pay at 80 odd quid, but I wore them for a boiling hot week in Madrid, and walked 10 miles plus most days. Never going back to Birkenstocks.

JL Anyday are shite. I have those Joseph Siegel sandals from last year and they look a lot cheaper than the Rieker in real life (mine are nicer than the ones I linked). I wouldn’t say either were ‘quality’, I’d call them cheap comfort fit.

Mirabai · 09/05/2023 15:25

If you want ‘quality’ try these (although they’re a bit funny to walk in).

If I had enough money to spaff 400 quid on a pair of sandals, I wouldn’t walk anywhere. I’d be carried about in a litter, with some servants strewing rose petals before me. Job done.

I had these in black last year and found them super comfy (I can't wear completely flat and need some support). I have ordered in white for this year as they are reduced at the moment! Says the inner is leather and textile - I would say last years version seemed like suede, but you may want to check.

Mirabai · 09/05/2023 16:27

You’d need a lot more than 400 for that. 😉

Traverser · 09/05/2023 17:26

Maybe you want something with a heel but if you want a sandal that makes your feet feel like heaven Mephisto Helen is it. I have been wearing them for years and I have a few colours including gold. I bought some for my 22 yr old because she kept “borrowing” mine!

The HELEN Mephisto model is a marvellously lightweight ladies’ toe post flor flop sandal, with its relaxed look.

I’m quite heavy footed and some of these shoes can’t be re heeled. It’s so annoying.
