'Edgy' older women...

Gah!

I know I'm about to start a thread I've started before but there have been a few comments in S&B this week about 'desperate' older women trying to look fashionable and 'I wouldn't listen to 60 year-olds', both comments to OPs who were favouring a fairly safe style of dress in their 30s and trying to shake it up a but feeling a little moribund.

There's absolutely fuck-all wrong with a safe and classic style in it pulls your chain. Really, I have no beef there. It can look incredible.

However, who's to say that the 30-year-old advisees know more about fasion than the 60 year-olds they were belittling. Some 60 year old have worked in the fashion industry for decades. Some 30 year olds have no care about fashion beyond looking respectable.

And that's ok.

But it's not age-based, and there's an absolute joy with older women and fashion, it can be much more unconstrained. It's certainly not desperate for older women to be edgy or fashionable, I'd argue that the truly edgy dressers are older women (or men).

And the young too.

There's space for both, I'm not sure why it has to be stratified along age lines.

People either love clothes and want to look incredible or they like clothes and want to look respectable, (or they think it's all complete bolloocks and just want to cover themselves appropriately for the weather, and that's ok too!!).

Gosh, everyone should pile off the OP.
Very inappropriate.
This is S&B and it’s ok to celebrate clothes and appearance - isn’t that what it’s all about?
I come on here quite a lot and I’ve never come across the OP before so I’m not sure why there is such historical hate.

Yeah, well if you've never come across her before, maybe consider there might be reasons behind it eh.

NatashaDancing · 06/05/2023 20:15

Re "liking yourself" there was a long thread recently started by a really lovely poster, both in looks and her responses, whose only real S&B issue was she didn't like herself and had been given crap advice by people close to her.

HappyMe6 · 06/05/2023 20:21

I am almost 66 Always worked in fashion industry always been into clothes make up jewellery from a teenager! I don’t give a monkeys what anyone thinks regardless of their ages! Harsh.

I am unequivocally not an arse.

I'm a bit if a dick for sure. Aren't we all?

I'm quite happy to take it on the chin.

I don't even 'give as good as I take' because I don't give.

I think that's a shitty thing to say.

I didn't say you were an arse. You posted a thread and people have given their views on it, which is what you invite when you post a thread.

Greeksummer · 06/05/2023 20:33

There’s no issue with liking or being happy with oneself. The issue is coming into threads like a wrecking ball with a bombastic “I’m it, you’re shit” sneering attitude, and talking down to other women. Of course this hasn’t been addressed by the op, who instead has chosen to play the victim and claim that posters started a “pile on” simply because she likes herself herself. Highly disingenuous and manipulative.

Nope.

Whaaat?

I have never 'played the victim'.

You are making stuff up.

None of that happened.

Most people who are genuinely secure in themselves don't really care what a bunch of random strangers on MN might think, either. I know I don't.

Pigtailsandall · 06/05/2023 20:44

I just came back to check on this thread and wtaf?
So the whole thread is now about one person who may or may not be an edgy older woman herself and we're all here to (dis)prove it?

I don't have 40k for clothes and they're probably not edgy anyway so I'll quietly slink away to the Boden/trainers/suitable wedding guest dress threads

The whole thread was always about one person. That's why the OP posted it.

Not really.

It was about older women.

That's why I post photos of myself.

To acknowledge older women.

Of which I am one.

There have been a lot of deletions.

Not from me.

So work that out...

ProstituteHair · 06/05/2023 21:18

To the person that reported all of the bollockry,

Thanks!

Thank you.
