Can this fit better?

I love this colour and the whole dress, but it doesn't fit my size-10-on-the-hips size-8-on-the-top figure so well. I'm quite hourglass and slim on top with curves. Also, a high waist.
Could I get it altered? It's a really fancy 3D fabric with appliqué flowers on top of cotton lace, with a polyester lining.....

I'll ask a seamstress, but what do we think, is it worth it?

Can this fit better?

Ps - the dress I'm wearing is a 10. The 8 was too tight around the dropped hip area, just before the biggest tier of flounce starts

I think you look lovely. It's a gorgeous dress

LaLaLaNotListeningNotListening · 03/05/2023 20:36

How much was it and how often would you wear it?
Just wondering if it would actually be worth a seamstress fee because it doesn’t look such a terrible fit tbh. The last time I had something very simple done (years ago) it cost £30.
You look lovely in it, but that looks a right PITA to iron!

RidersOnTheCalm · 03/05/2023 20:39

Thanks.

It was loads and I'll wear twice 😪 for posh events.
Its Self Portrait so silly expensive.
I'd try to sell afterwards, which would be harder if I'd altered.

Yeah don't bother if you're just going to sell it after a couple of wears!

EatTheDamnCake · 03/05/2023 20:41

(Also, I love it and think you look great)

monotonemusings · 03/05/2023 20:42

It's nice

Doggymummar · 03/05/2023 20:43

It looks a bit small to me. You might have more joy with a 12 and have that altered.

hotelmotelpremierinn · 03/05/2023 20:45

Looks better on you than the model

Pearfacebananapoop · 03/05/2023 20:49

It looks better on you than the model. The model one is too tight and looks see through.

PARunnerGirl · 03/05/2023 20:50

I think you just need to size up to a 12 and then it will probably hang a bit more like the model’s fit.

spangleswereace · 03/05/2023 20:57

You have a lovely figure but I don't think the dress does you any favours, sorry!
So many prettier dresses out there, and probably cheaper!

RidersOnTheCalm · 03/05/2023 21:04

I think a 12 would drown me but I can try it on. Slightly better view

I think the fit is good, but I’m not a massive fan of the dress sorry op, the skin colour slip under isnt doing you many favours! The general shape of the dress is good for your figure though as the detail on the shoulder balances you out (i have a similar shape to you!)

RidersOnTheCalm · 03/05/2023 21:28

Thanks for the advice all.
Is this a more flattering style? More skims the body and higher waist. An 8 from LK Bennet

That is absolutely gorgeous

Doggymummar · 03/05/2023 21:32

Yes that's nicer. The reason I suggested a 12 is because you have barely fastened the belt and it looks to be cutting in, whereas the model had the belt on the tightest notch and it sits nicely.

Oh I see. No, the belt is on its second smallest hole on me. Its just facing the other way to the model's.

Yellow is loads better and more flattering.

LadyKenya · 03/05/2023 21:36

The yellow dress looks better on you.

LizzieSiddal · 03/05/2023 21:38

Agree that the yellow dress it just perfect!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 03/05/2023 21:39

I vote for the second dress.

First dress looks like it has no darts in the bodice, which would be the usual way of shaping it. As it can't be darted without the pattern of the flowers being affected, the only other way looks like taking the dress apart, and taking some of the seam allowance, which is practically remaking the dress and would be £££££ assuming you can get someone to take it on. IMHO.

EatTheDamnCake · 03/05/2023 21:44

I like both but I prefer the yellow one. It is just easier on the eye

dudsville · 03/05/2023 21:44

The yellow dress was made for you OP, you really wear it well. I can see how you would alter the blue one. Where do you think it needs altering?
