Can this fit better?

I love this colour and the whole dress, but it doesn't fit my size-10-on-the-hips size-8-on-the-top figure so well. I'm quite hourglass and slim on top with curves. Also, a high waist.
Could I get it altered? It's a really fancy 3D fabric with appliqué flowers on top of cotton lace, with a polyester lining.....

I'll ask a seamstress, but what do we think, is it worth it?

Can this fit better?

Prefer the second dress too
Maybe add a waist belt?
If you will only wear once why don't you try LK borrowed? I quite liked renting their dresses!

ConstitutionHill · 03/05/2023 21:46

I can't believe the love for the yellow dress?! I mean it's nice but the blue is stunning, and the fit is fine.

cathyandclare · 03/05/2023 21:47

Much prefer the blue, it looks great and you definitely shouldn't size up.

AutumnNymph · 03/05/2023 21:51

I like you in the blue OP. The dress is stunning and you wear it very well. The yellow is good but nothing too special. The work on the blue one makes it stunning and a standout piece.
It doesn't need altering IMO

EatTheDamnCake · 03/05/2023 22:04

I did really like the blue dress, but then when I saw the yellow one, something about the blue one looks a bit messy / jarring... I think it's just really busy looking with the flowers and the detail on the sleeves, the belt and the tiers. It's a lot of stuff packed into a wee dress!

But both are nice. You look lovely either way. So just pick the one you like best and / or which you'll be able to sell easier if that is the plan

EnjoythemoneyJane · 03/05/2023 22:07

Both really nice on you, but the blue is a much more difficult fabric to wear and the cut is very ‘flat’ - for most women, no matter how slim, it will never really fit the way it does on the model cos, you know, boobs, hips, etc. If you do go for that one (& you do wear it well!), agree you shouldn’t bother with alterations, esp if you’re planning to sell on.

ichundich · 03/05/2023 22:10

I think it looks better on you than on the model.

Booklover40 · 03/05/2023 22:12

Yellow, yellow!

Paq · 03/05/2023 22:16

The blue is rank, sorry! It looks creased and impossible to iron.

The yellow is much nicer but I'm not a fan of the neckline.

Discwriter · 03/05/2023 22:17

I think it depends on the event! The yellow looks perfect for a spring tea in the palacr gardens. The blue is nice and fits fine I think.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 03/05/2023 22:18

Both dresses are stunning and neither need altering

SpringNotSprung · 03/05/2023 22:22

The blue one is not your colour and looks messy. The yellow one is a much better dress, providing yellow suits which it probably does as the blue doesn't.

I'm confused as you said the blue cost a fortune and the LKB one was eye-watering. If the blue cost less than the LKB I wouldn't bother having it altered.

Also, I think you may get more than two wears from the LKB frock.

GeneHuntsCowboyBoots · 03/05/2023 22:24

I like the blue on you colour wise and I actually think it fits quite well..the bust and waist darts look to be where they should be and the shoulder seams seem to be in the right place, too.

There is something about the blue that isn’t quite perfect and I think it may be because I feel like it needs like it needs an iron for some reason.

I’m not as keen on the yellow - it looks a bit ‘meh’ (IMO). Maybe it would look better once you have accessories and hair/makeup.

DietCokeUser · 03/05/2023 22:28

I much prefer the blue. The yellow is much less interesting.

PurpleHydrangeas · 03/05/2023 22:38

I think the issue with the blue dress is the seam just above the hips with the gathering. It looks wonky, doesn’t lie flat and makes the dress look messy, so it‘s a no from me.

I also think the yellow dress is a bit staid and nothing special. You are gorgeous with a fantastic figure and could wear almost anything, so keep looking.

Kablea · 03/05/2023 22:39

I think the blue looks nice. I think you need to loosen the belt as it does cut in a bit. Instead of getting it altered which might be difficult, have you tried a more padded bra or inserts and that would straighten out the top half?

SirVixofVixHall · 03/05/2023 22:42

The issue with the blue is the lining. On the model the top half is a closer fit, but the skirt looser. Is the lining attached at that hip seam ? Eg is it a separate lining of skirt and bodice, or is the lining actually a separate slip ?
If the latter, does it have a zip at the side ?

PrincessofWellies · 03/05/2023 22:49

The yellow 💛 has my vote. It's a more sophisticated look but it doesn't matter what we think!

Which one makes you feel fabulous?

SpringNotSprung · 03/05/2023 22:49

The model in the blue probably has a back full of pins to make it appear that the frock fits and hangs perfectly. There will also have been staff on hand with steam guns to lose every wrinkle.from it.

pastabest · 03/05/2023 22:54

The blue one runs the risk of making you look like you have been to the loo drunk and not pulled your spanx back on properly. Sorry! It's just the way the lining sits.

I also don't think the blue is the right colour for you. It washes you out.

I'm not a huge fan of the yellow dress personally but it looks really lovely on you and suits your tones much better.

coloursquare · 03/05/2023 23:02

Keep looking!

I have pretty much exactly the same figure (lovely, if I say so myself 😄) and here's my view.

The blue dress looks a good fit, but unfortunately because it's busy it makes you look larger on the bottom than you really are. I get this all the time with patterns etc.

The yellow dress is very pretty but I think you can find something with more wow factor.

Isn’t it funny because I think the complete opposite! I think the blue suits her skin tones better and the yellow washes her out. I wonder if it’s different screens making things look different.

I agree about the lining though. There was something I couldn’t put my finger on and I think that’s it.

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 03/05/2023 23:12

The second dress is divine on you! First one is good, too, but isn’t quite as flattering. That said, you suit both.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 03/05/2023 23:20

I prefer the blue. It's very striking and shows off your lovely figure. It's not a dress many could wear successfully.

The yellow is nice, but that's it really. Anyone could wear that dress and look OK.
