Wedding booked, no dress, please help me

In desperate need of help please!

Wedding booked for end of August, and I am nowhere close to even knowing what I will wear.

I'm a 16/18 and in my late 30s, I'm toying with non-traditional (so colours or even black/silver/grey) I don't ever wear white and can't imagine wearing it. I'd want sleeves and that's all I really know. Wedding is registry office then reception at a village hall.

I'm so stressed and the sizing of wedding dresses is making me feel even worse. Can you please help me?

Sorry not to reply to everyone, I've got myself in a bit of a state. Thanks for the suggestions I really appreciate it.

Looking at Monsoon now.

I don't think I have time for made to measure (or budget sadly!) and Brentwood is a huge distance away.

I want to love that Asos one @Eggbuttie but I think it would be too loose around the front/shoulders for me to feel comfortable.

But lots of options on Needle and Thread

mummyh2016 · 01/05/2023 20:43

Where are you? I'd recommend trying an outlet store then you could get it dyed into a different colour?

marahippo · 01/05/2023 20:43

If you did any to go traditional this is lovely

Don't forget that the sleeves on wedding dresses are often actually a separate garment, sitting over the top - various examples here. So you don't necessarily have to avoid sleeveless dresses, in order to end up with sleeves.

Sleeves on the wedding dress itself can make it less fluid and harder to wear, especially if there is a lot of material in the rest of the dress, which is why designers are reluctant to add them. Having said that, obviously this does depend on the style - a simpler dress can take integral sleeves more easily.

Have you been to a wedding dress shop and tried on any dresses?

I'm in the Midlands.
I think I'm going to need to try some on aren't I? The whole thought fills me with horror.

Go to a wedding dress shop and try everything on, try on a veil too and just go for it!!!!

If there’s something you like but isn’t 100% right, consider getting it off the peg and having it adjusted. My wife bought her dress in a Coast (I think) sale for a fraction of the cost of a wedding dress, and then had it fitted and a lace panel put in the back (it was originally backless, which she wasn’t comfortable with). The dress and adjustments all came in under £200 and she looked beautiful.

You will be better off trying some on. If you've ever seen that TV program where they have larger ladies looking for a bridal gown. They often choose something they wouldn't have even considered choosing. They usually know what will suit your shape.

Check out Wed2b as they do dresses under £700

Wed2Be are brilliant! Plenty to try on, you buy off the rail so prices are reasonable..... from £500 upwards..... I bought mine in March (I'm getting married in august) it only needed slightly adjusting at the bust and was £699!
Size wise, they recommend going up a size. They were brilliant and patient and so kind when I went and they are all over England.... I've just googled and there is 2 in the midlands. Solihull and Wednesbury

LookItsMeAgain · 01/05/2023 21:11

This one is just under £500 and is really elegant:

Thanks so much I'm going to steel myself and book an appointment.

The Needle and Thread one is top running but not as bridal as I think I want. Looking at Coast as well but they're mainly white/light.

If anyone spots anything - needs to have sleeves (preferably full sleeves) and not light coloured preferably - I need all the help I can get. Appreciate every single one of the replies.

Wow Thankyou to the poster who explained about the wedding dress toppers. That is so cool and not something I knew about. You could even reuse that topper later. Am now wondering why all my dresses don’t have toppers lol 😂

I love the bombshell one

TomorrowsPrincess · 01/05/2023 21:26

@Pleasehelpmefindmydress
I didn't need an appointment.... you literally just walk in and wait to be seen.
I went in at 9am when my local store opened and I had found 'the one' and was happily skipping down the road with it (all boxed up 😂) with a massive grin by 12.
Even if you don't find what you are looking for, it will give you an idea and will give you an insight into how it goes when looking/trying on the dresses.
I was incredibly nervous at first but absolutely loved it when I got into it.
Good luck 🤞🏼
