Chunky Sandals

Are chunky sandals still in?

I like both of the attached, but can anyone recommend any in case I prefer them, please?

Thanks.

I would go with a size 6. They come up a tiny bit small.

Thank you 🙂

SwirlyShirly · 27/04/2023 13:46

I got these a couple of weeks ago - looking forward to the weather warming up a bit so I can actually wear them!

I've really gone done a chunky sandal rabbit hole and can't make up my mind.
I quite like these from Zara BUCKLED LEATHER TRACK SANDALS - Brown | ZARA Ireland but don't know if the gold would be a bit much.
I also had my eye on these Criss-Cross Leather Sandals - Cognac - & Other Stories IE, can't decide whether the sole is chunky enough.
I think the track sole looks better, and probably in black, not wild about a light coloured or espadrille type sole.

Blossomtoes · 27/04/2023 15:37

The Zara ones are lovely. I think the gold would be fine.

TheVeryThing · 27/04/2023 20:17

Thanks Blossomtoes, I’m leaning towards the brown.

I bought these because I'm fed up of buying new sandals every summer! They are so light and comfortable. Also not a bad price for dr martens.

How old can u get away with wearing these ? I don't mean it negatively so plse be honest. I love them tho wonder if it's only for the young and trendy or if i could get away with it ... mid 40s.

RosesAndHellebores · 27/04/2023 21:57

I think it all depends on the feet and the legs. I know 20 somethings on whom they'd look ghastly and equally 60 somethings.

A presentable pair of feet at any age can get away with anything regardless of age.

Blossomtoes · 28/04/2023 06:37

I couldn’t wear the DM sandals @Noangelbuthavingfun, not because of my age but because of my legs. The top strap would hit my leg at the worst possible point and make my feet look like trotters. I think they’re lovely for someone with long slender legs. Sadly that isn’t me. As Roses says, age isn’t really relevant.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 28/04/2023 10:11

I tried on these Dune sandals yesterday @Laiste I know you were looking at them too. I was so disappointed with how they looked on my feet vs. on the shelf! I am a size 5, but they were huge even the sales assistant noticed so I tried on the 4 which did fit better but I'd have preferred a 4.5. Either way they did not suit me at all. I have short legs, I'm not overweight but I looked really dumpy in them, they really did nothing for me. Aaarrrghh. They were VERY comfy though so if you've got longer legs I'd say go for it. Back to the drawing board for me.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 28/04/2023 10:12

@TheVeryThing those &Other Stories ones are gorgeous, in all colours!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 28/04/2023 10:13

A presentable pair of feet at any age can get away with anything regardless of age I would have thought so, but having tried them on I think leg length/shape is really important too. They looked lovely on my feet but when I looked at myself full length it was awful.

Laiste · 28/04/2023 11:37

@LifeInAHamsterWheel - oh. Bum. 😂

But thank you so much for this feedback. (jealous you're near a Dune)(i'm near nothing!)

I'm thinking about in now and i recon i've tried 'flatforms' on in the past and felt a bit meh. Like you i've got good feet, nice nails, nice ankles ect, and if you keep the mirror low everything looks nice. But once you pull back it goes to pot a bit. My legs aren't very long. I'm 5'5'' and long bodied.

I'm not surprised to hear they come up big. They look generous in the pics on the model's feet.

I've still got these in my basket. In a 6 as advised. I'm dithering.

I guess this is one of those things where me might have to make peace with being in something fashionable and comfortable but not flattering! 🤔

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 28/04/2023 13:47

See I think those Blowfish ones are nicer because there's just a slight wedge in the sole rather than them being flatform. They are fab. I think they'd probably look better on me than the Dune ones.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 28/04/2023 13:48

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee what have you decided on?!

WingingItSince1973 · 28/04/2023 14:22

sarrat · 26/04/2023 08:22

Are the DM Blaires fairly narrow? I’m tempted to get some but feet are on the wider side

I have wide feet and ordered some last summer but sadly even with trying to stretch them they were still too narrow. I was gutted as I love DMs and chunky sandals.

WingingItSince1973 · 28/04/2023 14:26

Felicity42 · 26/04/2023 10:23

New Look do chunky sandals too if you want something a bit more affordable.

I bought 2 pairs from there last year as they do wide width and also they were covered toes which is great for me as I have one ugly big toe 😂 Extremely comfy. Wore them all summer right up to the first frosts 😂

WingingItSince1973 · 28/04/2023 14:28

Lovemusic33 · 26/04/2023 13:28

Sorry me again 😂😂😂 Absolutely love these. My fave colour and they look so comfy x

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 28/04/2023 16:09

I can't decide. I really can't.

I'm 5'3 with stumpy legs so now I'm worried they'll look ridiculous on me. Like, too much shoe and not enough body.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 28/04/2023 16:36

Have you tried any of them on? That's the only way you'll know!

I'm starting to think the chunky sandal look just isn't for me, even though they're in fashion.

sarrat · 26/04/2023 08:22

Yes. I tried some last year and they squashed my toes and I have pretty narrow feet. I can't be doing with uncomfortable footwear, especially in the summer. I stuck with birkenstocks.

Lovemusic33 · 04/05/2023 16:55

I can’t get on with DM’s either, I have tried several times, Birkenstock’s are a bit hit and miss too (they give me dry skin on my heels). I wear Teva a lot but have a few pairs of chunky sandals for when I’m not walking as far. My feet have been ruined by living in walking boots all winter and most of last year 😬 so I am going for comfort this summer to give my feet room to recover.

SquashPenguin · 04/05/2023 16:58

Not keen on the ones in the photos but you can prise my DM sandals out of my cold dead hands. The comfiest things I’ve ever worn in my life. Had them for years and still going strong.

GarlicGrace · 09/05/2023 04:03

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 25/04/2023 18:03

I wouldn't be seen dead in something a 60 year old would wear 🤷🏼‍♀️

I love them, and am rapidly replacing all my shoes with ones that have massively thick soles. They remind me of parts of my misspent youth, I absolutely know how to wear them. I'm 68 😂 Not sorry!
