Chunky Sandals

Are chunky sandals still in?

I like both of the attached, but can anyone recommend any in case I prefer them, please?

Thanks.

I know! But OP did say she would not be seen dead in anything a 60 year old would wear.

Did she? I'm getting confused. Best I get on with my work than embroiled in a stupid 'he said, she said' debate.

It was a weird thing for the PP to point out they're in their 60s though- it's irrelevant to the OPs question and hardly an age group people look to what's in style.

I think she was just pointing out that her age may be why she wouldn't be seen dead in them.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 26/04/2023 09:56

This has descended into something I didn't want.

Genuinely do not care about who is wearing what at what age. In fact, I'm far more likely to have clothes in common with someone in their 60s than I am with someone in their 20s (purely going by what they wear on Love Island, mind).

No offence was meant at all. It was a silly comment made in jest, which thankfully, most people seem to have got.

I don't want this thread to be deleted. It's been so helpful.

Gosh, so much ageism! My mum is in her 60’s and one of the most stylish people I know. Younger people often ask her where she gets he clothes and shoes from. Low blows to the person who said ‘wouldn’t be seen dead’ or not, it still upsets a whole demographic of people.

Everyone has their own taste no matter what their age. I like the chunky sandals but they look naff on me so I wouldn’t be seen in them 🤷🏼‍♀️

I bought an expensive pair of Ted Baker chunky sandals last year and they ripped the back of my heels to pits. Am going to try the M&S ones this year!

kingofchaos · 26/04/2023 10:03

I have these Doc's ( think they're Blaire's).

I love them but my feet are stupidly narrow, and I haven't managed to break them in yet.

Will be my mission for this summer!

I like a chunky sandal for doing lots of walking, I've got plenty daintier looking and colourful sandals for evenings (I'm a Moshulu girl usually) but I'm liking the look of these ones. I have to be careful what I get as my bunions will destroy regular shoes but I can adjust strappy sandals to go around them. Those M&S ones look optimistic 😍

I dream of sandal weather all through winter...

LunaTheCat · 26/04/2023 10:14

MrsD I have just googled the Russell and Bromley ones… they are gorgeous… I also can feel my Credit Card shaking! ( 58 years young for those keen to know!)

Felicity42 · 26/04/2023 10:23

New Look do chunky sandals too if you want something a bit more affordable.

It was a joke in response to an unnecessarily snippy comment. I actually love that so many women of varying ages have come on to say they rock them too!

But it's kept this thread moving and I've got loads of links, so thank you.

In response to my general style, currently it's "whatever still fits". But jeans more than dresses these days.

It’s probably best to respond to a snippy comment in a witty way rather than equally rude or it unfortunately can escalate. Age aside, as it’s completely irrelevant to this style of shoe, I think chunky sandals are great. My number one requirements though are that they’re comfy and light. Any heavy shoes get put back on the shelf and I don’t like having to ‘break’ shoes in. I usually find the lighter the shoe the less likely they need breaking in.

Absolutely love these.

The wouldn't be dead poster was the one to bring age into the conversation

Spirini · 26/04/2023 10:47

Some fab shoes linked here. My favs are the ones you linked, the zara ones from @stinky and the @LumpySpaceGoddess ones.

Stating 'I wouldn't be seen dead in them and I'm 60' is what started all of this, and if I'm honest I'm also very unlikely to be seen in something most people aged 60 would wear. I'm 41. Granted there are some very stylish 60 year olds out there but most would not be as on-trend as these sandals are.

Grimbelina · 26/04/2023 10:48

the Teva leather flatform and midform are amazing, definitely the most comfortable sandals I have ever bought.

User98866 · 26/04/2023 10:57

I really can’t see anyone moving away from chunky shoes and sandals now?! They are so much more comfy and flattering. I always think my feet/ legs look like little pigs trotters in small narrow shoes Grin. I got the suede chunky Birkenstocks last year after seeing them on a thread here and absolutely love them. I’m mid 30s if it matters.

Laiste · 26/04/2023 11:09

I think i've mentally spent about £600 now 🙄

I want the majority of them!

I really liked the Fly ones linked on Amazon and the Fly ones linked later in the thread.

Anyone here who's got the M&S ones (which i like in gunmetal) - are the ankle straps nice and soft?

I know it sounds daft but i have hyper-mobile joints (very 'floppy feet') and the range of movement in my ankle means ankle straps are often a bit wide or too hard and bite in on the tendon at the back or on the fop of my foot if it hits low.

Laiste · 26/04/2023 11:11

Those Camper ones are nice.
Not keen on the colouring of the sole on the beige option though. Looks like a layer of wall cavity insulation 😂 (soz to anyone loving it)

Carouselfish · 26/04/2023 11:24

Remonte?

Dahlietta · 26/04/2023 11:47

I'm in my 40s and I have been wearing fugly chunky sandals for about 30 years. I drift in and out of fashion... Grin

ellebelli · 26/04/2023 12:26

I have the doc Martin Blaire sandals.
I got a cheap copy for my summer holiday last year but they are already coming apart so I bit the bullet and ordered the docs for this summer.

ellebelli · 26/04/2023 12:26

Oh and for what it's worth I'm 45

Lovemusic33 · 26/04/2023 13:08

I love chunky sandals, I bought a lovely pair from Next last summer but they make my feet fart when I walk in them 😭. I would love a pair of DM’s but my budget won’t stretch this year.
