I had a look as they've got a sale coming up but failed to see anything I liked.

Can anyone recommend anything to have a look at? I am mid 40s size 12 very average.

Thanks

Nope, not for me anyway. I ordered a couple of t-shirts with the latest discount. They were ridiculously cropped, I held one up and my husband laughed at it. It’s a shame really, I used to love their stuff.

Polzair · 27/04/2023 13:36

I like this skirt. Cheaper with F3Q9 code.

Hoppinggreen · 27/04/2023 13:38

I have a voucher and 25% off and I can’t find anything I want

Polzair · 27/04/2023 13:40

Yeah Boden's quality has decreased with prices increased. That skirt is the first item I've liked in ages and I won't buy it because even with a discount it's a polyester skirt for £80 !! Confused mad.

Steppingintome · 27/04/2023 14:28

I’m another person who’s stopped shopping at boden. I used to love a boden dress but now they are awful prints and the colour selections are not as great. I had money to spend there the other month and cash back from my bank and I couldn’t find one thing I liked apart from a dress which was £175 and looked like a new look £17.99 one. Such a shame :(

AllTalkNo · 27/04/2023 14:44

I'd not bought anything for a while, bit recently I bought this broderie skirt and I love it! Cotton, with pockets, length just right. Skirt

MsFogi · 27/04/2023 15:44

Hmm this feels like one of those thread where the company tells an intern to get on MN to drum up some sales by posting about the brand then putting some links on/keeping the convo going under different user names in the hope the stuff will fly off the shelves. I still have a load of Waitrose Bum Cream from years back as a result of a MN frenzy!
But I'll bite - no, looked recently, nothing of interest in Boden these days.

I was a Boden loyal customer until they decided not to make any normal clothes any more. I'm sitting here in a Boden black cotton jumper with button cuffs from 2017 and some boden Richmonds trousers, but they don't sell this kind of everyday workwear any more it's all puffed sleeve tiered floral tents, crop tops and ugly ugly dresses for size 0 american teens. I am disparing. I now shop at Vinted, Ebay for old Boden, and at Baukjen, Mint Velvet and Tesco for my work clothes.

This exactly. I can’t believe the clothes they have now, awful.

emmathedilemma · 27/04/2023 16:20

gosh, i hadn't looked at their website for ages until i saw this thread. It really doesn't look like Boden used to, it used to always feel classier and worth paying the money for. Most of those flouncy frocks are the same as you'd find in any cheap clothing store. And why are all the neck lines either plunging past your boobs or really really high?

THE NECKLINES!

Yes - it's either the high-neck boob-0988

MagicClawHasNoChildren · 27/04/2023 16:30

Bollocks. The baby commando crawled over me surprisingly fast to get to a deeply desirable bottle of lemon and lime water and pressed send on her way past.

Necklines. It's the high boob shelf look, or the low full distraction technique. Where are the nice mid-depth necklines? Whither the scoop necks?

Ugghhhhhh.

YouOKHun · 27/04/2023 16:33

@MsFogi if that is the strategy it isn’t going too well!

I have never really got to grips with Boden. Years ago (c20 years ago) when it was definitely good quality I bought the odd thing but it was always too identifiable and a bit too Prep School Mothers Uniform Shop. But they did do some very good plain basics then. I said this a few years ago and got set upon (possibly deserved for the Prep School comment). After my telling off I looked again and it seemed that I wasn’t up to date as the clothes seemed to have got more sophisticated and toned down when I revisited, and they’d dropped all those quotes attributed to their models such as “Tabitha likes stroking fluffy kittens”. I ordered a couple of things but still couldn’t really get on with Boden, I’d see something that looked promising but it was always just a miss; too short, a weird shape.

Now I look and it’s just not nice at all. Too fussy. I wanted to buy a straightforward cashmere jumper last year but everything had puffed sleeves or some tweak or embellishment. But what I really noticed was the prices! It was never cheap and possibly [definitely] I’ve just got poorer but it seems ridiculous now and there are other retailers doing a better job for less.

The green dress mentioned upthread is very nice but £90?! Any discount just isn’t enough these days. I think they need to return to their roots of good quality basics; normal clothes!

KatieBenz · 27/04/2023 17:00

I have so many clothes from Boden in my wardrobe. A lot of them are really old and I would like to replace them, but I haven’t really seen anything I like for last five years. My favourite previous purchases were;
4” Richmond shorts
richmond trousers in petite
good quality linen. My white linen trousers from 10 years ago are still my no.1 faves. Would love them in other colours. I don’t want turn ups or high waist or pleat fronts!
Cotton/wool/cashmere v-neck jumpers without frills - not cropped and basically, classic.

No frills, puff sleeves, high necks, polyester, cut-out bits, midi length or sludge coloured ditsy print. I’m a pale English lady and a lot of the colours they now offer don’t suit my skin tone.

Their double layer vests are amazing.

Nothingtoseehereagain · 27/04/2023 18:17

I almost don't want to remind people as I have hit a goldmine but...Vinted, with really specific saved searches that you check most days. I'm gradually building up a stock of mint condition spares / replacements for all my Boden favourites from the last 10 years.

BHRK · 27/04/2023 18:18

I’ve bought their T shirt dresses for this summer which I really like, I’ll wear with belts and sandals. I also rate their swimwear

Decoart · 27/04/2023 18:55

I've given up on Boden I used to spend alot as love the petite sizing.

I have two gorgeous cotton lined halter neck sun dresses from maybe 10yrs ago I adore but sadly can't fit into anymore still in mint conditon.

A Jersey sundress from a few years ago and hardly worn hasn't fared well and looks like a dishrag.

I want to replace three boden cotton cardigans but don't want boxy crop length or puff sleeves.

Boden need a mumsnet focus group.

FancyFanny · 27/04/2023 20:02

I've bought this dress- it's lovely- thick material, fits beautifully- very flattering! Got it in black and the patterned one.

VenusClapTrap · 27/04/2023 21:41

I think a large part of the problem is current fashion. Flounces, puff sleeves, cutout bits, high neck, garish colours - these are not unique to Boden. Everywhere is infested. I’ve been trying to find a dress for a wedding and I can’t find a bloody thing.

Portandlemonade · 27/04/2023 21:49

My wardrobe is about 80% Boden but not recently.
I started buying from them 30 years ago.

There is nothing I like now that I'd pay their prices for.

Everything is too young or too garish.
Too much flesh on show for me in my 50s. Low necks, no sleeves, low backs. Not a good look for an older woman.

I've had great knitwear, jeans and the classic Richmond or Hampshire trousers. And a boiled wool coat now 15 years old and it looks new.

The prices are crazy even for basic T-s and tops.

Portandlemonade · 27/04/2023 21:53

I've swapped to John Lewis for some basics - Ts, plain jumpers, jeans, and the And/Or range.

Everything in Boden is ruined by a silly bit of tinsel, or a puff sleeve, or a frilly neckline, or weird buttons.

Neckline are so high they strangle you or so low your boobs spill out.

Yep so true. I just bought a fairisle lambswool cardigan from about 8 years ago. Lovely.
Used to love them, wouldn't buy from them now.

No. There is never anything nice from Boden.

I agree.
7,8,9,10 years ago I wanted 1 of everything in all the colours...

Bodenesque · 27/04/2023 23:49

Their linen blouses are excellent quality and not as see through as M&S's.I'd highly recommend them.

Nothingtoseehereagain · 28/04/2023 07:48

I'm a high-volume 20 year customer, but I've spent nothing with them for the last 6 months. They seem to have got rid of most of their repeated styles that I bought again and again in different colours and tweaked details.

They'd still be my first stop for a swimming costume or linen shirt, but beyond that, see you on Vinted or in John Lewis.
