Petite range that is actual petite

WelshCakes1 · 16/04/2023 16:51

Can I please have recommendations for petite ranges that aren't for giants!! Absolutely sick of buying petite stuff that I can't even pass on to my 5'5 sister as its too long.

I'm looking for wide leg trousers - up to a max of £50.

I'm 5'0 but always wear at least a small heel so to fit 5'2 / 5'3. A small size 10. Inside leg 29'

TIA :)

I’ve bought the cropped wide legged Uniqlo trousers that hit the bottom of my 5ft1 frame last year. I tend to buy 7/8 leggings and and anything uniqlo trouser/ legging wise that comes as cropped and it pretty much fits as a normal length on me.

Essexexile · 16/04/2023 19:57

I’m 5 feet tall with a 27” inside leg, I buy jeans from either Next or Fatface, although a sales assistant in Fatface did tell me once that their short leg can only be bought online.

purpleme12 · 16/04/2023 20:01

4 foot 11.
Dorothy Perkins petite section has always been brill at trouser length for me

Oblomov23 · 16/04/2023 20:10

I can't find anything, especially now M&S has changed it short length, irritatingly.

GAW19 · 16/04/2023 20:21

Newlook or In The Style are my go to 😊 I'm 5ft

Niftythrifter · 16/04/2023 21:22

Primark straight slim jeans are pretty good on me and are £16!

CookieDoughKid · 16/04/2023 21:30

Reiss petite - I bought their black jumpsuit and it was perfect length and I'm 5ft. Always buy in the sale. Smart for office too!

Avo for gym and fitness. So good I bought x3 outfits and ditched all my previous sportswear. Amazing fit you must try it.

Boden petite is ok and M&S extra short.

tectonicplates · 17/04/2023 00:10

Boden make proper petites, and they always give detailed measurements for each item if you look on the size chart.

Plus another vote for the M&S extra short length (I’m 5ft 1), although as someone mentioned above, they tend to sell out very quickly and don’t get restocked often enough.

Myjobisanightmare · 17/04/2023 11:36

Debenhams website hold a good 4 brands that do Petite

whirlyhead · 17/04/2023 13:49

I'm just impressed you can wear wide legged pants. At 5'2" and a size 10, if I put on wide legged pants I look even shorter and wider than I am!

Same here. There must be a retailer who does wide legged trousers and jeans where the width of the leg is reduced too so that us petites don’t look like we’re wearing clown trousers - something between straight legged and wide legged.

EntreMummy · 17/04/2023 14:13

Boden petite is really good for trouser lengths.
I’ve already mentioned on another thread - but I just bought the Richmond high waist that have a wide cropped leg and petite size is brilliant - they actually do look cropped on me (not “normal” size as all other trousers would)
I’m 5’1” and my inside leg is just 26 inch…
jealous of all you with longer legs!

EntreMummy · 17/04/2023 14:14

And they definitely don’t look like clown trousers either

MaggieFS · 17/04/2023 14:23

I'm 5'3" but particularly shorter in the body so my bigger issue is dresses. If I have the waist in the correct place, they are all gappy above the shoulders. Or if they sit on my shoulders then of course they don't fit because the narrower waist section is trying to sit on my extra wide hips.

I had quite a few work and occasion dresses from Précis Petite a few years ago but that label doesn't seem to be around any more.

And I agree with pp, I'm pretty average height and dress size for a UK female, and it's really bloody hard to find anything. So I slob about mostly. I'd spend more if I could find anything.

tectonicplates · 17/04/2023 15:09

@MaggieFS The closing down of Précis has been an absolute disaster for petite women. Since they closed I’ve been unable to buy a good quality winter coat any more.

Paq · 17/04/2023 15:15

You can get a good selection of Précis Petite on eBay and Vinted if you don't mind second hand.

dameofdilemma · 17/04/2023 15:29

I'm 5ft and have given up on specific petite ranges. They used to be properly petite with a decent choice circa 20 yrs ago but no longer.
Now I assume I'll have to get the length taken up but if the hips, waist and crotch length are ok then that's fine.

I have four pairs of wide legged trousers, all had to be taken up in the length but hips, waist and crotch length were fine:

& Other Stories - summery style, thin fabric, high elasticated waist.

Massimo Dutti - thick fabric (like denim but not denim), high waist.

J Crew - bought in US. Had length taken up but just by 1 inch.

Mango Jeans - length taken up, hips/crotch fit well.

Skinny jeans I buy Mango or Zara and usually just tuck the length under. I go for ankle length ones.

Work trousers are most Mango or Zara ankle length ones but taken up.

I'm on first name terms with the dry cleaners.

Tops are a bigger issue to be honest as they're all too long, too low in the neckline, too long sleeves, too boxy etc.

dameofdilemma · 17/04/2023 15:30

Mango is pretty much my go to. I can't find anything to fit in Whistles, COS etc. And Reiss is a bit too dressy even for work these days.

The John Lewis personal shopper couldn't find a single thing to fit me!

dameofdilemma · 17/04/2023 15:31

And H&M smaller sizes online or New Look for casual summer dresses and jumpsuits.

Pinkywoo · 17/04/2023 15:39

bellac11 · 16/04/2023 17:42

Given the average height in this country is around 5,3 or 5,4, who are the retailers aiming all these 30 inch leg trousers at?

Me, I'm 5'2 with 30" inside leg, is that weird?!

My experience in John Lewis too!!

It is recommended on here a lot but there were practically no petite clothes in house for me to consider so it didn't really work for me.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 17/04/2023 15:51

Levi's for jeans because you can select by leg length. Ditto Asos - they do 26" legs as well as 28". Or buy raw edge jeans and cut a bit off - I have some from Zara that started off about 4 inches too long. I used to do Topshop Petite a lot and it fitted me really well, but I don't like the Asos version of Topshop. Still get some old stuff on Vinted, though.

tectonicplates · 17/04/2023 15:58

@Paq Tried that twice now. First one arrived having been drenched in Febreze, second one had been machine washed (even though it’s supposed to be dry clean only) so some of the fabric had felted, and the perfume of the washing powder was so strong that it made my eyes water. I always sell my old stuff but it’s very difficult to trust other people when buying theirs.

tectonicplates · 17/04/2023 16:03

@dameofdilemma I get most of my tops from Collectif and other vintage-style brands, because they’re designed to be of a slightly cropped length on people of average height, hence perfect for me. Collectif tops are typically around 21 inches in length, plus they really design for curves so I can fit my chest in. Honestly it’s been life changing, plus they have plenty of plain tops that are suitable for work.

tectonicplates · 17/04/2023 16:06

And yes, another person here who’s been to a personal shopping appointment at John Lewis and come away with nothing. I ended up finding something at a market stall in Camden. I’ve been to a few personal shoppers in the hope that they could dress me better than I can dress myself, but only one of them succeeded, and that was at Debenhams who actually used to have a good amount of petite clothing but of course now they’ve closed down.
