What to wear for the West End London at 3pm - dinner afterwards

Please send help.

Next Sunday, I'm going to see a musical at the West End and dinner afterwards. It is for a 2nd date so a little more thought on my outfit wouldn't go amiss.

I'm stuck with a very boring and casual wardrobe and this needs to change.

I usually wear modest clothing as in not showing / revealing too much. I want to create a classic / chic / feminine style, somewhat "French". Traditional but not boring. Versatile. Comfort is important to me.

I'm young looking 46 transitioning to silver hair so I want to create contrast with my outfits and not look like someone's grandma. Looking to create a grown up but fun and somehow low key sexy style. I'm very careful with prints and prefer them in dresses rather than just the top or just the bottom. I'm about 5'5, between 50-55 kg.

Please help me with photos and links. My budget is not massive but I'm willing to use my credit card and take the plunge. I need help with the whole shebang: outfit / shoes / jacket... I have only a few days to get this sorted!

V invested in your lovely evening OP, and your outfit. The Chloe shirt has been on my list a while so think I'm going to get it too! What's the sizing like please for those that have it? And where are people buying their nice jeans?

its on the big size for a 12 but nice fit and not very long

mikado1 · 11/04/2023 12:57

Oh great, thanks went with my smaller size iykwim, ordered cream and navy!

Then someone suggests a pashmina.

Then someone suggests a pashmina.

Well aren't you the charmer?

A pashmina, shawl, wrap, throw or whatever you want to call it can be useful if you just want something to throw on over the main attraction, if the main attraction is a garment it's difficult to get a top layer for, to keep the cold out until you're where you can ditch the top layer.

I have a black wool pashmina I wear as a scarf, had it 20 years! Imagine- a pashmina AND a scarf, all in one garment! Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned...

I'll join you

Was that aimed at me @Theos ? I'll call it a scarf then, so it doesn't offend your fashionista sensibilities.

Better?

I saw loads of really great looks in London where a big scarf/pashmina/wrap were involved - it gives an extra layer and makes wearing a little jacket an option rather than having to wear a full blown coat.

Don't tempt me! That's lovely.

Celina jumpsuit gorgeous but too baggy in the top for me, I would end up constantly hoiking up the straps. A shame!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/04/2023 20:14

Big scarf and little jacket = brilliant
Dress with pashmina draped around one like a Greek widow = not excellent

Yes, same! I felt very odd wearing that jump-suit or maybe it is just because it is not how I want to look like. The little button at the back is such a PITA maybe because of my long nails but it would be a nightmare going to the toiled at trying to open and close it up by myself.

I agree. Those boots are awful.

Yeah I hate the boots sorry

Bit rude

SaborDeSoledad · 12/04/2023 09:50

@CoconutNoodles You're absolutely right, the button was fiddly and the gape at the front a little bit pointless.

Beautifully made though and an absolute steal for the right person!

How did it go??

Amazing

After all the stress about outfits and many returns later I ended up wearing my faithful black jumpsuit, fun earrings, red bag, black ponted toe ballerina shoes and a denin jacket.

Arrived there slightely before him and wanted to wait for him inside the theatre. So he sent me my ticket and to my surprise a VIP pass. I was then taken to our VIP table where I drank champagne and had some nibbles while reading the programme. He arrived handsome as ever and we had more champagne until the show started.
During the interval we went back to the table where there was more champagne, a cocktail he ordered before hand, ice cream and cute little cakes waiting for us. I also had my own VIP toilet.
After the show, we went to a bar nearby for some more cocktails but no dinner as he had to go back home for a work video call (Sunday evening😫) which I totally believe to be true. He showed me emails and sent voice notes to the people involved in the project in front of me.

Nevermind ~ he said he wanted to cook for me for the next date and I’m curious to see how special he will make it be.

Let the lingerie hunt begin!

Good for you. Always necessary to have some key pieces in the wardrobe and that is something that I definitely have to build

Delighted it went so well! Funny how the old favourites win out in the end, and for good reason.

Bonne chance on the lingerie hunt!
