What to wear for the West End London at 3pm - dinner afterwards

CoconutNoodles · 10/04/2023 10:28

Please send help.

Next Sunday, I'm going to see a musical at the West End and dinner afterwards. It is for a 2nd date so a little more thought on my outfit wouldn't go amiss.

I'm stuck with a very boring and casual wardrobe and this needs to change.

I usually wear modest clothing as in not showing / revealing too much. I want to create a classic / chic / feminine style, somewhat "French". Traditional but not boring. Versatile. Comfort is important to me.

I'm young looking 46 transitioning to silver hair so I want to create contrast with my outfits and not look like someone's grandma. Looking to create a grown up but fun and somehow low key sexy style. I'm very careful with prints and prefer them in dresses rather than just the top or just the bottom. I'm about 5'5, between 50-55 kg.

Please help me with photos and links. My budget is not massive but I'm willing to use my credit card and take the plunge. I need help with the whole shebang: outfit / shoes / jacket... I have only a few days to get this sorted!

Either midi dress, denim jacket and white trainers or my favourite, skinny jeans, T-shirt, white trainers.

ProstituteHair · 10/04/2023 12:29

You don't need to be torn @Iwantthepenthouse

You can dislike my excellent boots.

Whilst also acknowledging that there's a lid for every pot!

That's obviously a piss-take....

MrsOrange · 10/04/2023 12:31

So if Equipment is out for now
Check out Zara Satin shirts - they are not going to be as lovely, but they would do. Go plain.
I'd say trench over blazer but only because at the moment a lot of blazers on the high street are oversized which is a bitch to buy on line and IMO no a good rush purchase which is what you're looking for on Sunday. Zara could also find you a trench ( and if you go that way I'd go navy shirt and dark jeans to be tonal and then lighter colour trench)

And Op, when you've got the date out of the way, there's a thread in S&B called Elegance. You might want to have a mooch - very much about buying less is more. Some nice brands and tips to waste a few hours on.

CoconutNoodles · 10/04/2023 12:33

Ladies, I do wear the dress / trainers / denim jacket combo but for brunch and walk in the park or something

I'm going on a date with a sexy man who spent over £300 on the tickets and will take me to dinner afterwards

I want to feel my best and I want to get out my comfort zone and push myself to dress better

For the record, I'm in love with those boots and @ProstituteHair was spot on.

Echoing the please not midi dress and leather or denim jacket and trainers. And not the blue top either.

As an alternative to silk shirt and blazer (which sounds good but maybe not for everyone) maybe wide leg trousers like these https://www.meandem.com/wide-kick-flare-man-pant-navy-black

and a cami/vest top with a jacket like this I have been browsing at M&S and found this: https://www.marksandspencer.com/pure-cotton-tweed-collarless-short-jacket/p/clp60595589?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share

shoes won’t matter much as the trousers are long and they will only peep out-a low heel or trainers both work

Wide Kick Flare Man Pant | ME+EM

A high-rise waist combined with a wide-leg silhouette results in a bold contemporary-classic: this Navy/Black Wide Kick Flare Man Pant by ME+EM. With practical pockets and luxe grosgrain side stripes, the style complements both office and occasion outf...

I would absolutely not buy that top @CoconutNoodles .

No.

KISS.

Clearly you are very set in your ways.
I can only imagine how horrified you are when walking around seeing the myriad of patterns colours and styles worn by women everyday.

I agree. Those boots are awful.

Truly awful. Sooooo dull.

I love the wide leg trousers look but they make my flat bum go flatter and it is hard to find the right length at a short notice. I might wear them another occasion but I will struggle to make it look low key matinee sexy they way I want to feel on Sunday

That blue jacket is criminal.

Your hair is fab, OP. I'm with @ProstituteHair (except re the boots!) You will suit androgynous, sexy tailoring in luxe, drapey fabrics. He's a lucky chap!

Do some squats then you won't have to worry.

Eww.

Don't abuse language.

Myriad means 'very many of' so, just myriad.

Also see your mate that talked about the 'multitude of'.

Multitude also means 'the very many of' .

So, just multitude.

It is myriad, it is multitude

Fini.

Tanaqui · 10/04/2023 12:59

If you don't suit wide legs, a v stylish colleague of mine wore black 7/8ths cigarette pants, the kind of heels I'd describe as edgy, and a black, slightly slithery silkish halterneck, and it looked amazing; probably not high fashion but classy and sexy, I was in awe.

sleepwhenidie · 10/04/2023 13:15

I say sexy- you will need to undo some buttons, unlike the way it has been styled! 😊

ElizaSkyes · 10/04/2023 13:18

I love that last dress, I think you’ve won!

For what it’s worth, myriad can absolutely be used as an adjective or a noun (it was a noun first), making ‘myriad of’ completely acceptable

aholidaynotacarpark · 10/04/2023 13:26

You are wrong. If you're going to be a pedant then at least get it right. Otherwise it's just embarrassing.

whatsyourpoison12 · 10/04/2023 13:28

don't bother asking for style advice here, you'll get told to wear mom jeans, chunky cardigan and doc martins 😭also don't listen to them telling you to wear veja or similar trainers with dress, not good

id go for a (jet black, not faded) black skinny straight leg jean (ankle grazer). some black leather ankle western style boots, a light, thin, grey turtle neck, and a short hip length beige trench jacket. think cropped.

blazers are not for everyone, wear what you feel good in x

whatsyourpoison12 · 10/04/2023 13:30

and DO NOT wear cobalt bloody blue! it'll age you 20 years

ProstituteHair · 10/04/2023 13:32

@aholidaynotacarpark

Myriad is an adjective. As is multitude.

We can argue if you like.

I'm not really that pedantic.

These do bother me.

Kvetching · 10/04/2023 13:36

I’d wear a bias cut silky skirt with a chunky jumper and flatform trainers. Casual, but in a good way.
