Flat shoes for work

Currently wearing ankle boots with midi dresses for work.
What flat shoes do you wear with midi dresses that are comfortable to walk in all day?

Last summer I walked to work in trainers then changed to heels but want to see if there are any smart ish flat shoes for work I could wear. Most look so frumpy!

I can’t wear flat shoes with dresses, I think they look all wrong and frumpy like you describe. I wear ballerinas with ankle grazer trousers, heels with dresses for work, sandals and flip flops with casual dresses

carriedout · 10/04/2023 07:43

The word 'frumpy' is outdated, misogynistic nonsense. Flat shoes look great, with the added bonus of being able to walk.

I wear brogues, loafers or mary janes.

cheapskatemum · 10/04/2023 07:43

I wear DMs

Mumof1andacat · 10/04/2023 07:45

Loafers. Very complicated. I find they offer more support than a ballet flat

IlonaRN · 10/04/2023 07:48

Mary Janes

LubaLuca · 10/04/2023 07:49

Not one man in your office will be worried that his comfortable work shoes are frumpy.

I wear flat shoes with dresses for work, loafer style for a bit more lift on the heel and better support than ballet pumps. Go for something chunkier if you want a younger look. A pp suggested DMs, a couple of the younger women in my office wear them with skirts and dresses.

littlese · 10/04/2023 07:49

Hmm might give loafers a try, I can't do ballet flats as I have a bunion

Those are nice. Where are they from?

LeatherSkirt82 · 10/04/2023 09:12

I also wear pointed flats with dresses or wedges.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/04/2023 09:14

The word frumpy is so fucking stupid.

I like pointed black flat sling backs.

JaceLancs · 10/04/2023 20:48

@eurochick
they are Carolina Herrera from Bicester outlet

honeylou42 · 10/04/2023 22:12

Thank you - I couldn't make out the logo. They are very nice.

Smart trainers or a runner shoe. Everyone wears them, male and female. Eg like a black leather runner with a white sole.

Wenfy · 10/04/2023 22:28

Flat pointed shoes always looks smart. Boden do some nice pairs

No offence but are you over 40? I find dress with heels tend to be older women. Even the young corporate professionals in London don’t really wear heels any more ime

Tanfastic · 10/04/2023 22:33

I wear flat pointed with sling backs or ankle straps. Had a few nice pairs from River Island and ASOS. They look good with midis or trousers.

Bearpawk · 10/04/2023 22:57

What sort of dresses op? That's an important factor !

WhereAreWeNow · 11/04/2023 06:25

I second the pointed flats/slingbacks. Check out Vionic or Clarks wide fit if you've got a bunion OP. It's important the point isn't too narrow at the widest part of your foot and that there's enough support/cushioning.

littlese · 15/04/2023 07:20

Will try flat pointed sling backs!

Flat shoes are not "frumpy" with dresses. Pointed flats in particular are not "frumpy"

I'm not sure if age is relevant but my work shoes are flats or low heeled Mary Janes , or Quaker buckle shoes. I defy anyone to say these shoes or the model in the picture look "frumpy'

There's no such thing as a smart trainer.
