Is this top acceptable for the office?

I'm 34D so there would definitely be some cleavage - I'm very unbothered by that sort of thing, but still want to be taken seriously https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1142598002.html

Sweetheart-neck top - Black - Ladies | H&M GB

Fitted top in soft, ribbed jersey with a sweetheart neckline and long sleeves.

I've got it and am busty, it's not low cut at all, wide on the shoulders so I tend to wear it with my hair down if working (civil servant, judicial support staff).

daisychain01 · 09/04/2023 04:28

Every company has its own dress code and culture OP. You know what clothes people come to work in where you work, it's like asking us "how long is a piece of string?". How do we know!

Why not ask a colleague of your's what they think, you're more likely to get an accurate opinion. Look around you when you're in the office, does anyone wear anything remotely similar?

You'd look out of place where I work, but we're a more formal culture than creative arts type industry. It also depends if you want to blend in or get noticed.

Tight-fitted and long tight sleeves, you’re only going to be comfortable when it’s chilly. But then you’re exposing all that chest, so you’re going to get cold.

Never mind the tits-on-show dilemma. It’s a silly design, by someone who hasn’t thought about whether it will be comfortable. Not unusual for women’s clothing 🤷‍♀️

Totally agree with this, it’s not a good design

LeatherSkirt82 · 09/04/2023 07:52

It wouldn’t be considered appropriate for my office (finance but pretty lax as most of us WFH and rarely come in) but I can imagine environments where they wouldn’t bat an eyelid. I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing it to work because I do think it would be very cleavagy on a big bust person (which I am).

QuintanaRoo · 09/04/2023 07:58

I would wear it, our office culture is where what you want though. My recent female boss wore gym gear to work a lot.

Stickmansmum · 09/04/2023 08:02

I think you can wear whatever you like but think it’s a pity you even want to wear that. It’s designed to draw the eye to a woman’s breasts. So the designer of that top can fuck off in my opinion. They need to stop making objects of us.

But if you like it then that’s up to you.

I tried this on and decided it absolutely would not fit at my work. My boobs were very much on show and yes as a director I need to be taken seriously. That's important whether male or female so it is something to consider. We are all judged by our dress regardless of what private parts we've got.

It's a nice too though. I think on some women it probably fits fine but I felt like I was hanging out of it.

RightWhereINeedToBe · 09/04/2023 11:38

emptythelitterbox · 09/04/2023 00:19

Of course not, if you want to be taken seriously.

Oh come on 🙄

BatshitCrazyWoman · 09/04/2023 11:41

It would be very booby on me, as my boobs sit quite high. If your body is arranged differently it would probably be fine.

Purplecatshopaholic · 09/04/2023 11:44

Depends on the boobage situation and your office culture. I wouldn’t wear that to work myself.

CleaningOutMyCloset · 09/04/2023 11:45

Yes it's fine, I wear tops like this with either a maxi skirt or grey trousers

verdantverdure · 09/04/2023 22:39

I'm not sure I could wear that too anywhere because I'm not confident my bra/ nipples would even be fully covered in that but mine sit quite high on my chest and I have a tendency to look "wenchy"

emptythelitterbox · 09/04/2023 00:19

Of course not, if you want to be taken seriously.

I had a boss (female) who told me my boobs were “unprofessional”. I’m a J cup, and unfortunately they are attached to me rather than strapped on with Velcro. I couldn’t leave them at home. 🙄

Stupid woman.

Most cleavage isn't attractive especially in a work setting.

Is this top acceptable for the office?
Somanycats · 10/04/2023 00:40

Our rules say no visible cleavage, so it wouldn't be acceptable here.

ShandaLear · 10/04/2023 05:41

Blanket rule: no cleavage in the office if you want to be taken seriously.

whatchagonnado · 10/04/2023 06:43

I would feel very self conscious in that at work - I'm 34E size.

verdantverdure · 10/04/2023 12:06

I hate showing cleavage ever, but I think that top would show a lot of my breasts and a lot of my bra.

I tend to keep to boat necks and ballet necks in the office and I'm always careful about where shirts and blouses button. In casual life too really.

If a top would show a full coverage bra then it shows too much for me. Particularly for work.

Really? Any reference to men not wearing tight trousers?

ShowOfHands · 10/04/2023 12:28

I don't know how useful the bra sizes described on here are. I wear an E or an F cup and have pretty small boobs due to small back size.

Last office I worked in, people wore whatever they liked. The linked top wouldn't cause a single raised eyebrow but different places have different expectations.

Softoprider · 10/04/2023 12:31

I am a 36 G/H and find the thought of showing cleavage in a work or family outing situation to be unnecessary and unpleasant for the others in close proximity. I just wonder why??

shivawn · 10/04/2023 12:34

I'm a 32DD and I can tell straight away that that would look very revealing and boob-y on me.

If you already have the top then wouldn't you be better off posting a photo showing how it looks on your body?
