Vinted - does no one own an iron?

DD has introduced me to the joys of Vinted and I’ve sold a few things that were taking up space.

Had a bit of a look at what’s for sale and I can’t understand why people present an expensive item (relatively) like a scrunched up rag on a wonky hanger?

I don’t iron everything by any means but are irons just not a thing any more?

They probably don't want to ruin the material by ironing it

Abra1t · 05/04/2023 16:51

You’re not wrong! Ironing would make the clothes look much more attractive.

WhatFreshHeckle · 05/04/2023 16:56

Agree with you! I don't understand this either. I used to sell a lot on there and always ironed it.

The only thing would be if it's brand new with tags. Maybe then I'd be frightened of ironing it

bingoitsadingo · 05/04/2023 17:08

Isn't the whole thing with vinted that its meant to be low effort? Ironing stuff somewhat defeats the point of that.. more hassle than its worth when you only get a few quid for something!

GatherlyGal · 05/04/2023 17:11

But @bingoitsadingo a quick iron can make a big difference - quicker sale, an extra £ maybe.

I also much prefer seeing the item on an actual person or a mannequin at least than just on a hanger!

Tig33 · 05/04/2023 17:39

Love vinted but some of the photos are terrible.

how on earth are buyers meant to see why the item actually looks like when the photos are taken in poor light or weird angles. Some items have one or two poor photos and no details.

i have bought quite a few things that I either have already (as replacements) or things from brands I know I will fit as I can rarely rely on the photos.

as a non ironer myself I do have some sympathy with not ironing but even I would get the iron out for some of the things I have seen for sale!

Nimbostratus100 · 05/04/2023 17:41

I cant iron, as I am not well, and I am selling a lot on vinted to help out financially. Some of them do look crumpled. But they sell, anyway

Quinque · 05/04/2023 17:41

Agreed, especially linen clothes. EBay sellers do this too, just spread things or hang them and photograph them all scrunched up.
I can understand it if things are really cheap, but often they're quite expensive.

CremeEggThief · 05/04/2023 17:42

I own an iron but I don't think I've used it since 2019 and to be honest that was just to try it out after I bought it for emergencies! It wouldn't ever occur to me to iron anything for selling.

MoonSea · 05/04/2023 17:48

I own an iron but I haven't used it for at least 5 years. I can't be bothered to use it on clothes I'm selling for a pound. I will just give them to charity if no one buys them.

Floisme · 05/04/2023 17:52

This is partly why I don't do Vinted, Ebay etc. I'm not handing over my money to anyone who takes so little care of their clothes they can't even be bothered ironing them when they put them up for sale.

Summerhillsquare · 05/04/2023 18:02

But that enables me to get a bargain when I feel confident in the brand or quality. People with artfully photographed items charge more.

Floisme · 05/04/2023 18:07

Nah, if you don't even iron your clothes when you're trying to sell them, then what that tells me is that you've not taken care of them.

thedevilinablackdress · 05/04/2023 18:49

Yeah, in my pretty vast experience in buying off eBay, I want something that looks like it's been cared for. I looked at Vinted once and backed away for the very reason you raise OP

🤣

Alternative theory: they can't be arsed

Pringleface · 05/04/2023 19:40

I sell on Vinted and I don’t get this either. It takes seconds to give something a once over with an iron. I sold a blouse recently and could only find one other example of it but the seller had taken a photo of it screwed up on her bed. I ironed mine and hung it on a hanger for the photo. It sold for £10 more than the screwed up one.

FatGirlSwim · 05/04/2023 19:43

I don’t own an iron 🤷‍♀️

dimpleton · 05/04/2023 19:49

Ha! I've only just gone on vinted and thought exactly the same - also, why do they put trainers up for sale and not wipe the bloody mud off?!

UglyModernWindows · 05/04/2023 20:08

What about the ones where the seller appears to be half naked? They’re selling a shirt, pictured modelling it unbuttoned and boobs about to fall out. There’s a lot of those there…

usernother · 05/04/2023 20:15

I don't buy things that aren't presented nicely. It puts me off the seller.

OhMyCherriePie · 05/04/2023 20:17

I don’t own an iron

TrenchVagina · 05/04/2023 20:21

Bizarrely I just bought a bundle of formal shirts for less than a pound each because they looked like they had potential in the photos. Between taking the photos of crumed shirts and painting them to me, the seller ironed them. She would have got double the price in the first place if they were ironed in the photos!!

BotherThat · 05/04/2023 20:22

I own an iron but don’t use it. I sell a lot of stuff on Vinted. It’s all new with tags, and it’s all been hanging in my wardrobe. Some items look creased. I did toy with the idea of buying a steamer but tbh, it’s an additional expense and I’m there to make money. My stuff sells well regardless. Apart from anything else, by the time it’s been posted and delivered, it’d just be crumpled again.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/04/2023 20:33

I own an iron but it is exclusively used for melty beads, quilting (seams) and iron on patches.

I think DH uses it sometimes but he's on his own.
