Vinted - does no one own an iron?

DD has introduced me to the joys of Vinted and I’ve sold a few things that were taking up space.

Had a bit of a look at what’s for sale and I can’t understand why people present an expensive item (relatively) like a scrunched up rag on a wonky hanger?

I don’t iron everything by any means but are irons just not a thing any more?

How can you not own an iron? Cheap as chips!

TimeForMeToF1y · 05/04/2023 20:39

They are probably all mnera who seem to think that not owning an iron or owning one but pretending not to know where it is is some kind of badge of honour and makes them superior people 😀

This! For those of you who don’t iron, how do you manage to keep clean clothes from looking a creased mess? I hate ironing with a passion, but I wouldn’t go out to work or socialise wearing clothes that are creased.

So is a fish slice and I don't have one of those.

If you wouldn't use it, why buy it?

Never needed one

Whereas you think flat clothes make you superior.

It's all nonsense.

I shake and then hang things up on hangers straight from the wash and hang them in doorways etc. So they tend to dry pretty straight. Anything I can’t hang up I give a 10 min tumble after drying on an airer and if you fold them whilst they’re still warm you can smooth out any creases as you fold. But to be fair I don’t really have any clothes that desperately need ironing - I don’t work in an office anymore and spend my life at home so everything is comfort type stuff. I threw my iron out years ago. Dd is 20 and wouldn’t dream of ironing anything, everything she owns is stretchy!

kezzielea · 05/04/2023 20:48

I actually don't own an iron.

I think in general uncreased clothes look better on people than crumpled ones, yes, I don't think that makes me superior, it's an aesthetic view

It's just odd when posters fall over themselves to make it clear they don't have an iron, there are examples of it above

JoanDarc · 05/04/2023 20:51

I’ve just started using vinted in the last few months and I completely agree. Some items listed like a dogs dinner, it may be BMWT but if it’s creased to bits I wouldn’t even consider making an offer.
It definitely must impact the likelihood of a quick sale at the highest price.

I mean when that's literally what the thread title asks...

Zipadeebooyah · 05/04/2023 20:52

I'm selling on vinted to save up money to buy an iron.

But no one's buying my shitty wrinkly clothes.

It's a real catch 22 type deal.

cleowasmycat · 05/04/2023 20:55

Haven't ironed for years! Sold about £200 clothes on Vinted

hobbledyhoy · 05/04/2023 20:56

It's the ones that lay their crumpled clothes on the floor with fluff all over them. I mean who's going to buy that? You could smell it from the picture

Daimyum · 05/04/2023 21:00

I have thought about ironing things before selling.
But..
Second hand clothing will be washed before wearing them anyway. I always do with vinted, charity shop buys etc.
So is a bittle bit pointless.
Plus you only get a few £ for them. And it all gets crumpled with the postage and packaging

I read that as rhetorical rather than a scientific survey but I take your point 😀

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/04/2023 21:04

Oh no it's definitely a peer-reviewed study @TimeForMeToF1y

MN is the best place for iron-related research. <nods sagely>

For years I was one of the ‘I don’t iron’ brigade then I had an epiphany.

TheJanitor · 05/04/2023 21:25

I'm selling stuff for £2 i aint bloody ironing it!

Is that a brand of iron?

BridgetRandomfuck · 05/04/2023 21:53

I threw out my never used iron years ago and got a handheld steamer. A quick blast and you’re good to go. I sell a lot on eBay, Vinted and Vestiaire and only bother if something is really crumpled as I assume the purchaser is going to wash it. I take lots of clear photos and always shift my stuff at good prices.

Newlifenewme · 05/04/2023 22:09

I was thinking the exact same thing today. I was looking for linen items and thought they all look like screwed up dish rags. Plus I can’t see if they would iron ok or have been damaged because they are so wrinkled. I gave up in The end

Moveoverdarlin · 05/04/2023 22:43

I have thought this for ages. I iron everything I sell on Vinted, even if I’m selling it for £2. I iron before I take pictures and before I post it. It takes seconds. I saw someone selling a NIKE jumper today, they wanted £20 for it, but it looked like it had been left at the bottom of the laundry basket for 10 years. Ironing it would transform it.

Dahliass · 05/04/2023 22:47

I don't own an iron.

FrillyGoatFluff · 05/04/2023 22:53

On the flip side, some people go bananas with the staging, and that's also annoying.

Was searching for children's sunglasses today, and someone had styled a pair of kids trousers with a top, shoes, hat and sunglasses - looked like a magazine shoot. Lovely, but it said in the description that 'top, shoes, hat and sunglasses are for detail only and not for sale' so the algorithm picked it up in my search. They had LOADS of posts and it was really bloody annoying!

I realise this is a very first world problem lol
