Here we are again, and this time looking forward to the warmer weather , putting away our comfy woolies ( and new season's dresses).

Everyone welcome ..

I did see it. I’ve given up reporting the ageism on MN. It’s the acceptable -ism. Although I did laugh at the rollers and a fag comment.

I agree, the ageism is grim.

Someone openly sneered at my (presumed) age the other day, because I had a different impression of the dress an OP had explicitly asked for input on!

dudsville · 25/05/2023 07:23

Your posts led me to look at that thread. The OP held her ground well. I wonder if we'll ever quit running towards youth and away from the later years.

AFingerofFudge · 25/05/2023 16:53

I guess what makes me feel sad/annoyed is that it doesn't just stop with "ugh that's so awful" kind of comments which you find on any "what do you think of this?" sort of post, but the age related discrimination which promotes the narrative of there being something wrong with being old.

Stoic123 · 25/05/2023 17:36

The Op did hold their ground well and I didn't think conversation degenerated as much as some Toast-bashing threads have.

I do think I have very different tastes from a number of S&B contributors as when items are suggested I do think 'ugh' more often than not.

I got this today, anyone else tried it? I really like it although I am a tiny bit dubious about the cap sleeve, I think I will keep anyway because the rest of it is exactly what I want, flattering shape, simple and very comfortable, casual yet smartish. It’s very very similar to the cotton linen one (the £225 one) but much lighter fabric and more of a ‘wear anywhere’ dress.

comes up big, I have sized down to a small so I’m hoping it won’t shrink in the wash!

i won’t ask what that other thread thinks of it! Although I am tempted just to see the comments ha!

Tbf aside from the one snarky comment which was ignored, the thread is actually very funny and the concensus was you need to be bigger than the model to carry it off -hurrah!
If anyone starts with ageist comments, I reply that the alternative is far worse Wink

Snowyowl78 · 25/05/2023 19:40

I think a lot of toast dresses you need to be curvier, they do often look quite sackish on the models

Did her dress arrive? Did she keep it?

faustina · 25/05/2023 20:03

@Snowyowl78 - that is very lovely. Is it easy to walk in? I can't see any slit in the skirt or anything

dudsville · 25/05/2023 20:32

I agree@Snowyowl78 , I'd even go so far as to say they do not display their own wares well. They make their clothes look bland, when we know they aren't, and they often pair things that i think are odd (except in the live videos, I'm only talking about the online models).

Good point @neveradullmoment99 , we need to find out what she thought of the dress. I'm hoping there will be a pic.

dudsville · 25/05/2023 20:43

She hasn't updated her thread.

That's a nice dress@Snowyowl78 !

Snowyowl78 · 25/05/2023 22:03

@faustina ooh I haven’t lunged in it yet, just tried it on, perhaps I’ll text it on the stairs tomorrow!

other thread lady has left everyone hanging! I actually tried that dress myself once, didn’t suit, chest area was a bit gapey and low

Snowyowl78 · 25/05/2023 22:05

I meant test! I will not text my dress.

I completely agree with you about the (static) models. I think the look terrible and do not enhance their clothes. If I hadn't tried stuff from them, I would rarely be attracted to any outfit shown.
The photos of models with background landscapes are far nicer.

neveradullmoment99 · 25/05/2023 22:59

They do pair odd things together too.

ScottishMouse · 26/05/2023 06:20

Can anyone who has some Fracap sandals tell me how much they have stretched width wise. I tried the Lina and the Ola. I prefer the look of the Ola but could barely squeeze my somewhat wide feet into them. The Lina fitted because they are much more adjustable width wise with the laces, but I don’t love them as much.
Will the Ola stretch much?? Thanks!

AFingerofFudge · 26/05/2023 07:33

I made it to a Toast shop yesterday and bought the Reeds cotton linen checked top. It is multi-sized which was slightly annoying. The S/M was too small and the L/XL was a bit too big but I have gone with that one as I like a bit of waft in the summer. Beautiful fabric

dudsville · 26/05/2023 07:39

@neveradullmoment99 ,i agree the pics out doing stuff or in natural settings are much better than the static ones. And there was a time when every pic of one lady was of her looking or walking into a corner.

MaroonedOnADesertIsland · 26/05/2023 08:26

Hi @ScottishMouse I've got the Ola - I've only been wearing them a month but don't find they have stretched. They are very comfy though, my foot is also on the wide side. Probably not very helpful sorry!

ScottishMouse · 26/05/2023 08:44

Thanks @MaroonedOnADesertIsland , that is helpful in should probably go for the Lina so. I’ll try them both again and see.

@ScottishMouse I was a bit like this at the beginning. I think they do stretch. The leather is pretty soft. I wore them with socks and they definetly stretched out more.

neveradullmoment99 · 26/05/2023 09:20

I had to wiggle them on at first. However, once on they felt totally fine. They have never hurt me. Now I don't have to wiggle them on.

neveradullmoment99 · 26/05/2023 09:22

Although I love the Ola, sometimes depending upon what I am wearing, I worry they look a bit 'frumpy' on me. I have to wear them carefully.

neveradullmoment99 · 26/05/2023 09:23

Mid calf dresses and the olas for me are a definite no.
