Does anyone still wear ballet flats?

I need an alternative to ankle boots and trainers, for transitional weather! I've tried loafers, but I find them really uncomfortable. Brogues make my feet look massive! It's unfortunately not Birkenstock weather yet. :(

Any suggestions appreciated! I just want simple, flat shoes to go with slim leg or straight jeans. Perhaps a low-heeled court shoe? Would that look weird with jeans? I just dunno anymore!

I think ballet flats are back so you should find them in most shops now.

My feet hate the fucking things but you go for it!

Minirrriot · 21/03/2023 00:30

I wear them fairly frequently and though I wouldn't consider myself an expert, I think I have a pretty good eye. Paired with the right outfit they look good and jeans go well with them in my opinion. With that said I'd say a skinny or slim or tapered jean would look better than a bootcut or boyfriend though. You may get away with a relaxed fit jean and
ballet flats, if it roll up the cuffs.

Yes - I love Tieks

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 21/03/2023 04:22

Ballet flats look fab with high waisted wide leg trousers and jeans - go for it!

Yes, I only recently released they were back in fashion. I've been wearing them for the last 15 years.

I know 😬 they’re pricy but one pair lasts a long time, and oh so comfortable. At least, that’s how I justify it to myself :-P

Chateaudiaries · 21/03/2023 06:21

I just bought some Dune ballet flats for spring. I’m tall and have always worn them with jeans and shorts/skirts.

If I need to walk a lot in a day, I go back to trainers because otherwise my foot arches will be very unhappy.

AuntieMarys · 21/03/2023 06:44

I have 4 pairs of Sam Edelmans which I've had 5 years and I bring them out each spring.

Spinningscrewdrivers · 21/03/2023 07:02

I wear them for work but like my trainers on days off. My friend has always worn them with trousers/jeans/dresses regardless of fashion.

CamoFlamingo · 21/03/2023 07:28

I do! I never stopped. I'm very petite so I think they look good on me and I don't care if people think they're not fashionable.

michaelmacrae · 21/03/2023 07:34

Good to know they've come back! Time to start shopping!! Grin

I used to wear them a lot. Sadly I now find them too uncomfortable as need some arch support. They are back in for Spring though apparently.

TheOGCCL · 21/03/2023 09:18

Ballet flats were looking a bit dated, especially worn with skinny jeans, but seem to be back in fashion again. Noticed this last year and there are even more around this year.

Not entirely sure of wearing socks with them!

Also ones with a strap, and ones which have a deep vamp.

Yes, I've never stopped. Swap them with my trainers though as they make my feet sore if I wear them continuously.

Epli · 21/03/2023 10:45

I've never stopped wearing them :D

Fifi1010 · 21/03/2023 11:52

I wear the ones with arch support so it's kind of a platform. I go on pavers some of it is very old fashioned but I like some of the shoes. Very comfortable and sone are lovely.

GettingStuffed · 21/03/2023 12:08

I recently found a pair that I'd bought and forgotten about. I've worn them a few times but I can feel the road through them.

LadyPoison · 21/03/2023 12:13

I'm still in boots and will be until sandal season.

I've never found a pair of ballet flats that fit me -always too wide. Those silver ones on the Mango link don't fit the model either!

This is what I'm going to do, find some with arch support. I've ordered some from Gabor, not sure of the brand, but apparently they specialise in comfort. They have a tiny 1 inch wedge and no bow at the front, which I don't really like. Will report how they are when I get them!

I wear them with dresses, skirts and leggings.

LadyHenrique · 21/03/2023 13:20

i put a post on here about them 6 months ago.

The replies were overwhelmingly "no way!" or "those things are bad for your feet!" or "they are so uncomfortable!".

Interesting.
I think most people on here would wear anything if they thought it was trending, and find a philosophical excuse for why it was so.Grin

StarlightLady · 21/03/2023 13:23

@LadyHenrique - The replies were overwhelmingly "no way!" or "those things are bad for your feet!" or "they are so uncomfortable!". That is exactly why I won't wear heels. I'm comfy in ballet flats though.

xogossipgirlxo · 21/03/2023 15:56

Good to know, I took mine out from the boot of the car and will wear them in the office, as I am going on ML in 4 months and don't want to pay for new pair of shoes for such a short time.
