".....I always have a little moment of eyebrow raising when I hear of Princess whoever of Connaught."

You are not alone @CliffsofMohair

I wonder how you the Connacht Connaught title came about ?

AdaColeman · 13/03/2023 16:32

Oh yes, I agree, a lovely up do for Kate today.
It's heresy on this thread I know, but I prefer her hair up!

frugalkitty · 13/03/2023 16:35

If Kate had worn a plain jacket with that skirt she'd have looked like me circa 1995. I'm not a fan of todays outfit, my fleeting 'what's wrong with me, I like an Erdem' outfit had passed and I'm back in the Per Una bargain basement camp I'm afraid.

I love camilla's blue today though, I'm not a total grump!

Also love the wedding cake. I had my cats made in marzipan on mine, nestled in among the flowers

Gooseysgirl · 13/03/2023 16:39

I normally am not a fan of Erdem at all, but I LOVE Kate's skirt suit today... although I am getting slightly Mary Poppins vibes from it 😆 I think it might be one of my favourite outfits in a long time - not a coat dress in sight 🥳 However.... NO to the hat, it's all wrong... wrong colour, wrong shape... I would have gone for a much more fitted smaller hat/hair piece to give it more of a 30s/40s vibe. But I love the risk she has taken today - totally here for it, bravo Kate! I forgive you for the BAFTAs weird gloves moment

MotherofPearl · 13/03/2023 16:41

I really love Kate's outfit today, which slightly appals me, given how much I hate all things Erdem usually. I think she looked so smart and polished, and I think the hat co-ordinates enough without matching exactly. I love navy blue, so perhaps that's clouded my judgement.

Sophie looks good overall, but I agree that the hat is a bit too air stewardess.

LadyEloise1 · 13/03/2023 16:41

Kate's hair was beautifully done.
I didn't think the hat matched the suit.
What were the white stitching, matching Vs on the jacket pointing at her nips for !!! Most odd.
Loved the reverse of the lining.
Very high shoes.

Sophie looked well.
Didn't Meghan wear a very similar hat ?

Loved the humungous sapphire brooch on Camilla. May I have it please ?
The blue is lovely on her.

Margaret's father, Prince Arthur, was created Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, (and Earl of Sussex) so I guess that's where the connection comes from.

HilaryThorpe · 13/03/2023 16:47

Arthur, Duke of Connaught was Queen Victoria's third son. His daughter Margaret married King Gustav Adolf. She was born at Bagshot Park.

I do too, definitely more chic.

I'm a long term lurker and occasional poster on this thread (I even have a tiara on the spreadsheet of splendor) but I have name changed to an old username as I don't want to post this under the one I currently use as it may be outting.
My very lovely DH is in the military and marked himself as available for duties on coronation day expecting to be assigned directing people to portaloos or standing at a tube station telling tourists which ways to go. He has just been assigned his duty and is actually going to be in the parade marching from the palace to the abbey. I'm thrilled for him, he is very nervous as he sees it as a chance to mess up infront of millions.
I just needed to tell someone and thought you ladies could be relied on to understand that I'm proud as punch. I might have to pop on my tiara as I sit on front of the TV on the big day squealing if I see him.

Gonegrey31 · 13/03/2023 16:55

Ohhh how exciting!!!

Maireas · 13/03/2023 16:56

Oh, wow, @Myaiminlife !! 😃
That's fantastic! Definitely wear your tiara as you wave him on!
Absolutely right to be pleased as punch 👍

Its panic diet time here as his dress uniform seems to have shrunk a little since it was made 20 years ago!

Maireas · 13/03/2023 17:02

Can't he have another one made (sorry, I know nothing of the military) ?

How bloody lovely 🫡☺️

You are right to be giddy 😊

TangledUpInTiaras · 13/03/2023 17:03

Ohh @Myaiminlife that's exciting! Definitely worthy of a tiara in front of the telly!

On another note all together, I just read a Hello article on the Commonwealth Service and called the PoW 'Princess Kate' and Duchess of Edinburgh 'Duchess Sophie'. UGH!! Made me very cross indeed.

SqueakyDinosaur · 13/03/2023 17:03

That's fabulous, @Myaiminlife ! He'll be truly part of history.

@Maireas , after due consideration, can I check if anyone has already got the Boucheron Wave Tiara? If not, may I have it please? It's different enough from the Russian Nuptial that I think the two will cover a lot of tiara occasions.

TangledUpInTiaras · 13/03/2023 17:04

*it called...

Maireas · 13/03/2023 17:04

I will check on the Spreadsheet of Splendour, @SqueakyDinosaur .
Was there a request for a brooch earlier? I can't find it now.

WontTheRealSlimSheldyPlsFuckoff · 13/03/2023 17:05

He will probably need it tailored Maireas.

That is what takes the time. And there might be a few in the same boat. (Been there - I grew taller and established my bosom. First lot didn’t fit after a couple of years)

Maireas · 13/03/2023 17:08

Oh, right, Shelley. I can imagine that military tailors will be busy. Diet it is!
Question, if you're pregnant, do you get a maternity uniform?

OP posts:
TangledUpInTiaras · 13/03/2023 17:10

@Myaiminlife He can lose quite a bit with low carbing over the next month if he commits to it properly!

frugalkitty · 13/03/2023 17:12

Ooh that is exciting @Myaiminlife you'll definitely need your tiara on to watch now!

Myaiminlife · 13/03/2023 17:12

Maireas · 13/03/2023 17:02

Can't he have another one made (sorry, I know nothing of the military) ?

I think he is worried that if he says his uniform doesn't fit he'll get dropped for someone else. It will be fine - it does fit, it's just a bit snugger that when it was made so no pasta or potatoes for us for a few weeks.

Maireas · 13/03/2023 17:14

Can we fix you up with a matching necklace and earrings? Possibly a stomacher?
It is a special occasion!
