@CanOfPop actually that suit looks a bit knackered. Those pockets, etc. He's taking frugality too far

themessygarden · 15/03/2023 12:37

I would love to see what the back of Iman's wedding dress looks like, I imagine it is a row of perfectly covered buttons.

Maireas · 15/03/2023 12:39

Charles famously has suits and other items of clothing for many years. I suppose that he has them re-tailored. However, I think he looks fine in that picture and I can't see a fit problem.
I'm going against the grain but thought Kate looked great. Very chic and elegant, lovely updo. Plus I liked the hat!

Diana's 1980s wardrobe did contain some fabulous 1980s frocks. And some amazing clothes.
Primary colours were a little glaring at times. I wonder what she would think of the current set up of the family .

CanOfPop · 15/03/2023 12:41

Diana had some gorgeous outfits but also some that were fashionable at the time and now look awful. Her maternity dress was a particular low, but that was at a point where all maternity clothes looked very twee.

Maireas · 15/03/2023 12:46

Prince Philip was always a sharp dresser, I think. My friend's grandfather was one of his tailors, and the shop had served Philip since before his marriage. They were very expensive, but he was always prepared to pay for custom fit.

My granda had a good suit and an everyday suit. In the scheme of things, he spent quite a few bob on them and probably a lot more bobs than he would have liked to. But the money spent was well worth it as his suits did him for years. That and a dress bunnet and everyday bunnet.

A local only wears kilts. They cost a fortune but they too have done him years.

I don’t buy throwaway fashion. I go for bits that will last too. Not expensive expensive but with a bit of life in them.

I like that the Royals do that. Anne in particular. I don’t think waste is their thing.

I too think Charles is fine as he is and I was one that also liked Kate’s outfit the other day.

If we ever end up scrapping over anything in Markies Maireas you can have it. 😘. You’ll always look better!

Just not the Lily of the Valley tiara cherub. That’s mines that is!

Maireas · 15/03/2023 13:13

Ah, Shelley, all I'd rip out of you hands would be the triple chocolate dessert 😂!
You're absolutely right about fast fashion, though. It's been an absolute curse. At least Charles (like your granda) attempts a sustainable wardrobe. Although I don't know if he has a best bunnet though - I like to think so.

If he doesn’t have a bunnet then I’d like to think he’d maybe take one of Prince Phillip’s ones. I love seeing the older chaps out in them.

My granda’s bunnets went with him. It felt right.

My dh has about 6 sets of keys in his pockets. Being king must lead to a lot of keys. Camilla looks capable of replacing or repairing pockets. Or perhaps the tailor who was involved in wedding dress alterations mends all the clothes.
Im sure Diana was pressured into the vast maternity tents. Are there any photographs of QE visibly pregnant? I was at a church thing in the 1970s attended by the curate and his wife and tiny baby. There was a lot of tutting about the wife still not having a deflated tummy. It was unseemly.

Zara Tindall looking gorgeous today at Cheltenham, love this outfit, prefer it to yesterday's one.

I think he does. It's called St. Edward's Crown.

AdaColeman · 15/03/2023 13:45

I think Charlie looks sartorially impeccable in the photograph posted, my only criticism would be that perhaps his pocket handkerchief could be a little perkier!
I don't know about Charlie's bunnet Sheldy but he loves a titfer, especially a Panama on a sunny day!

CanOfPop · 15/03/2023 13:55

It used to be though unseemly for visibly pregnant women to be photographed and put in the media. It was ground breaking when Diana's photo of her appeared heavily pregnant.
Even this one of the Queen does not have a visible swollen belly.

WontTheRealSlimSheldyPlsFuckoff · 15/03/2023 13:56

Seneca 🤣. quality!

Ada Aye. He looks the very dab in a Panama. 🙂

There's always something about mid-00s Karen Millen or Ted Baker about Zara's ensembles.

AdaColeman · 15/03/2023 14:05

Zara looks quite nice at Cheltenham, I like her hat.

Camilla's Commonwealth Service hat took a bit of a bashing in the wind, with her lovely curving feathers ending limp and dishevelled.
According to a press lipreader, she said to Charlie "I could use a drink after this." We've always said on these threads what fun Camilla must be! Gin Gin

CanOfPop · 15/03/2023 14:11

I know this is a light hearted thread, but I really hate the English culture where someone who drinks alcohol is automatically seen as fun. I think it is a dysfunctional culture. If someone is fun they are fun with or without drinking alcohol.

WontTheRealSlimSheldyPlsFuckoff · 15/03/2023 14:25

I have no doubt that Queen Camilla is fun full stop. With or without a drink.

As has oft been mentioned on here.

I know these threads are lighthearted but it is beginning to feel as though this one isn’t.

A quick Google of 'Prince Charles Bunnet' sent me to this article. Headgear for all occasions and some great photos.

Zara’s outfit today is lovely, one of my favourite colours.
I’ve just googled Ffion’s dress - wow, that’s a beauty isn’t it! It flows and drapes just perfectly.
I did like Megs dress, but thought the fabric didn’t drape particularly well.
I also liked Kate’s wedding dress, but thought the cups could have been slightly nicer. I’m a sucker for a high neck lace dress though, so I particularly loved Kitty Spencer’s, that would have looked great on Kate with the bodice lined as would be appropriate.

Upthread- @WontTheRealSlimSheldyPlsFuckoff - thank you kindly for the tiara offer but I’ve got eyes bigger than my belly as I have ownership of these three dazzlers. Kate has kindly lent me her Caribbean green dress too 😂 to match for the coronation.

Properly winning at bling gluenotsoup 🥰

I will have hi-viz on for the Coronation.

And a tiara (if I can get off with it!)
