Are jeans tacky?

I watched a podcast by Anna Bey, social media influencer and owner of a finishing school and she said that jeans make one look cheap, tacky, and to avoid them at all cost.

What do you think?

Like anything it depends on what kind and how they're warn

Zippidydoda · 07/03/2023 16:07

I think that sounds like an incredibly snobbish thing to say. Obviously jeans aren’t suitable for all situations (eg formal occasions) but they’re fine for everyday wear and can look smart.

revampthatcloset · 07/03/2023 16:08

Fair enough. She said the same thing about t-shirts and it made me re-question my whole wardrobe!

But I do agree that they can look nice and smart on casual occasions

I've just googled her and I have to say hers is not a look that I would wish to emulate, but to each her own...

Lightninginabox · 07/03/2023 16:15

I honestly wouldn’t set too much store about what she says. She just makes shit up.

I Just googled her too. She is not what I envisaged when I read the op.

I think people have different views. It’s fine for her to prefer a specific, more polished, style. She can do so without referring to specific items at tacky.

Having looked at her photos I can imagine there will be people that think aspects of her appearance are tacky. It doesn’t really matter though. I think it nice to see different people with different styles. It’s good we aren’t all the same.

CrotchetyQuaver · 07/03/2023 16:34

I'd take it with a pinch of salt personally, there are jeans and there are jeans. Her style is not my style, I'd look ridiculous in my area if I went out styled like her, friend would be asking me what time was my train to London 😂

RosaBonheur · 07/03/2023 18:02

Jeans aren't tacky but the cat in a wind tunnel look is.

Topseyt123 · 07/03/2023 18:06

Good quality jeans are not tacky. Plenty of us like to live in them. She's talking bollocks.

Suzi888 · 07/03/2023 18:09

But she’s horse riding, skiing, or on holiday in exotic/luxe locations. She isn’t doing the school run, food shop or walking the dog.😂

BanoffeeBoat · 07/03/2023 18:11

I mean, she was a gogo dancer before she proclaimed herself some kind of (admittedly successful) etiquette expert. So while I'd probably take her advice on business and marketing, I'd take her opinions on what is and isn't tacky with a pinch of salt.

SirenSays · 07/03/2023 18:13

She sounds like Emily Gilmore and her style is naff 🤣

Emmelina · 07/03/2023 18:15

She wouldn’t be seen dead in the-
oh.

wear what you like!

MultipleVeganPies · 07/03/2023 18:42

She is almost trolling I think 😁

did not know anyone took her advice seriously

Arrocahar23 · 07/03/2023 18:47

I agree with her.

MrsMullerBecameABaby · 07/03/2023 19:12

Are there really still finishing schools? Is that not misogyny distilled into it's most physical form? Schools designed to groom teenaged girls (those who's parents can pay for the dubious privilege) to dress and behave in a way that will catch the attention of the sort of potential husbands their parents want.

I'm pretty sure that should up there on anyone's "tacky and should be avoided at all costs" list...

eurochick · 07/03/2023 19:19

I love jeans. I live in them when not in the office.

I think inflated lips look tacky. Each to their own. 🤷‍♀️

Maybe try looking at a different influencer? Or maybe something other than an influencer?

daretodenim · 07/03/2023 19:22

Who cares, really. I'm not getting at you OP. She's catering to the insecure gold digger.

The sort of man who wants a woman who dresses to look a way to please him and play a role, and who is looking for a wife he knows does that to bag him, because of his wealth, is definitely not a man to aim on "bagging". He wants a trophy who he can control/mould.

Wear what you like. Princess Diana wore jeans. I'm not sure I'd describe her style as tacky. Catherine Middleton wears jeans (not at official work events, admittedly). She's not exactly a tacky dresser either.

Next up she'll be promoting the idea that teen girls should become debutants..at a ball organised by her (ker-ching), so they attract a future husband. 🤢

I agree with you on jeans! Love them

But she posted a picture of her as a child a while back, those are her natural lips. She used to get bullied for them in school and it's still one of her biggest insecurities apparently

I hate jeans and t-shirts, but I wouldn't start telling other people what to wear.

All this "influencer" stuff is complete wanker's bollocks.

ZeldaB · 07/03/2023 19:24

She’s just trying to be controversial to generate discussion and headlines and oh look it worked.

Yawn.

My own sense of style is really terrible so it helps me to get some inspiration and insights. But you're right, I'll look into other inspirations.

Really good point about Princess Diana and Kate Middleton
