Are jeans tacky?

I watched a podcast by Anna Bey, social media influencer and owner of a finishing school and she said that jeans make one look cheap, tacky, and to avoid them at all cost.

What do you think?

I like checking out stylists etc. on Instagram for some inspiration, particularly as I felt I'd lost my mojo a bit. I've picked up some good ideas and found brands I didn't know about, but I take a lot of the advice with a massive pinch of salt. If an outfit or look catches my eye, great, but I pay zero attention to what's in our out according to some influencer. Jeans can be great, casual or smarter. They wouldn't be so enduringly popular if they weren't.

Guis23 · 07/03/2023 19:37

She might want to have a word with the Princess of Wales who wears them. On second thoughts I suspect she wouldn't.

No they aren't tacky.

Standbyguest · 07/03/2023 19:43

Her fillers look tacky too.

Imtryingnottobother · 07/03/2023 19:51

Her channel is basically about how to bag a rich bloke, thinks she’s changed tack in recent years and is now an etiquette expert, but that’s her audience.

lmnabc · 07/03/2023 19:53

Yes and no. It just depends how good you look in them.

iloveburmese3 · 07/03/2023 19:54

Sounds like a nutter

IhearyouClemFandango · 07/03/2023 19:56

Her Tattle wiki makes for interesting reading

Cotswoldmama · 07/03/2023 20:00

I personally thinks she looks really old fashioned. If someone said picture a gold digger on the look out for a sugar daddy , she's who I'd see. She looks like a mother of the bride. Really boring, no personality.

AnyFucker · 07/03/2023 20:11

Take no notice of that shallow grifter

WaggyTailsWetNoses · 07/03/2023 20:47

But look at the state of the woman, and what she for a living! Why on earth would you take style advice from her?!

IMHO, jeans, a cashmere sweater and a modicum of intellectual ballast are 100 times classier (and 1000 times sexier) any day of the week.

Shitfather · 08/03/2023 08:04

Why do you care what she thinks? Are you not able to reason this question through for yourself?

I love jeans. I live in them when not in the office.

I think inflated lips look tacky. Each to their own. 🤷‍♀️

Same.

dontgobaconmyheart · 08/03/2023 08:54

I think tacky is an odd choice of word, but I do think they can in theory certainly look look cheap, particularly skinny jeans/jeggings in thin fabrics that don't really resemble real denim.

Not all jeans are created equally, and what they're styled with will make a huge different to the tone of an outfit.

I expect mainly it's just a sweeping attempt to try and sound important and an authority on style, but I've no idea who she is regardless.

hettiethehare · 08/03/2023 13:09

She's a 'Certified Image Consultant and Modern Elegance Coach' whatever that is.

highfidelity · 08/03/2023 13:14

Anna Bey talks a lot of crap and not someone worth listening to. A well cut pair of jeans are always stylish.

Andanotherone01 · 08/03/2023 13:18

Wow. This form a woman who wrote an article on how to bag a rich man, for the Times. It's not the jeans that are tacky.

LolaSmiles · 08/03/2023 13:21

I've just googled her and I have to say hers is not a look that I would wish to emulate, but to each her own...
I did the same. It's not a look I would aspire to, but I also don't aspire to styling myself to look like a rich gentleman's arm candy.

Plenty of stylish people wear jeans from all walks of life. It says a lot that she needs to tear down most of womankind to make herself look/feel good.

travelbugz · 08/03/2023 13:21

I dk who she is but as she's the owner of a finishing school, I'd expect she's trying to look like an expert or something...

StarrySki · 08/03/2023 13:28

No. Anna Bey is tacky

Kitchenette · 08/03/2023 13:33

I love the people who refer to themselves as etiquette experts. They are invariably completely batshit.

Her website is basically "how to dress like a escort". Keep your jeans on, OP.

revampthatcloset · 07/03/2023 16:08

Fair enough. She said the same thing about t-shirts and it made me re-question my whole wardrobe!

But I do agree that they can look nice and smart on casual occasions

One person opinion, someone you dont even know, has you questioning your whole wardrobe?

It was a bit of a tongue in cheek comment. I still wear jeans and t shirts. I just didn't know anyone could have perceived that as tacky

Abcdefgh1234 · 08/03/2023 15:10

No jeans are not tacky. Anna bey lip filler is super tacky 🤣🤣. I agree jeans and tshirt is too casual and not elegant. But definitely not tacky.

personally to much skin is tacky for me and lip filler is super tacky.

Abcdefgh1234 · 08/03/2023 15:11

And op. Look MM styling in youtube. She is more reasonable than anna bey. Elegant yet very casual. I love her style much better. Suit me better as a mum.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 08/03/2023 15:16

'owner of a finishing school'

Key words right here.

Anyone who teaches young ladies how to host a spiffing dinner party for 24, how to choose the right set of cake forks and how to emerge elegantly from a sports car, is of course going to find jeans a bit déclassé.
