Helen Mirren long hair

So, what do we think about Helen's long hair. Personally, I love it but is she too old, and where did that outdated idea come from anyway?

Ffs this again.

I'm old. Not as old as Helen Mirren but I've got long hair, wear skirts that barely cover my bum cheeks and couldn't care less what 'society' thinks.

JamSandle · 07/03/2023 07:49

I hate the so called rules. Rules are made to be broken.

Floisme · 07/03/2023 08:10

I'm not sure what to make of it really because it's so obviously fake. If Helen Mirren were to grow her own hair long then that is something I would love to see. I think it would be really interesting. It would also be amazing if it looked anything like this, because Mirren is 77 and it's pretty unusual for 77 year-old hair to be either this thick or this shiny. (This, to answer some previous posters, is at least one reason why so many older women wear their hair short, especially after the menopause - check out the 'thinning hair' threads.)

It's good fun to dress up and play make believe sometimes and I'm guessing this is what Mirren's doing and good luck to her. But as some kind of deeper statement I think it's about as interesting as, 'What do you think of my facelift?'

FergussSingsTheBlues · 07/03/2023 08:28

It’s partly the thin and wispy thing, but also as too she a showered hair cut kind of plumps out your face because there’s more apparent body

I took off about a foot of hair which barely anybody noticed because anything below shoulder length is just long isn’t it. But it looked so much thicker and stopped dragging my face down. I have a similarly bony face as Helen though.

I don’t care what anybody else does though, just works for me 🤷‍♀️

knittingaddict · 07/03/2023 08:34

My usually short hair grew in lockdown and I've kept it. I love it and so does my immediate family (they were the ones encouraging me to keep it). It's long and white (I stopped dyeing my hair about 10 years ago).

I'm late 50's and keeping it for as long as I can.

JamBiscuitBun · 07/03/2023 08:39

To me, nothing says 'old lady' quite like short white/blonde hair. Most older women of that generation have it cut short and it's aging, however nicely done. Having it long is differnent.

flutterbyebaby · 07/03/2023 08:45

To all those saying it makes her look older, she is 77 ffs, how much older does she look, 80, 90, 100? She looks bloody fabulous for her age, probably better than some half her age. And as for the snide comments about facelifts, you can not make a silk purse out of a sows ear!

Floisme · 07/03/2023 08:53

I don't think it's snide to point out that it's pretty unusual to have hair that thick and shiny or a jawline that tight at 77 without interventions. It's just a fact and I don't think it does 70 year-olds any favours to pretend otherwise.

It's snide to suggest she only looks good because of interventions when what the surgeon had to work with was so good to begin with. She looks tip top due to intervention and her facial structure which was already there

NevieSticks · 07/03/2023 09:06

Helen suits her pixie best of all imo. The long hair makes her look much older.

Helen Mirren long hair

Probably because she is older 😂

walkersareback · 07/03/2023 09:18

Not that it's any of my business whatsoever- and I am sure Helen Mirren does not give a hoot what I think but I like her hair shorter on her. I think it's because she has small delicate features. I like it long when it frames her face - when it is pulled back from her face it seems to overwhelm her.

That's my two pence worth - not that it matters in the least.

I love seeing her on telly as she is usually very funny.

Ah ok, thanks and in that case my conscience is clear.

I still maintain the hair looks too fake to be interesting - in fact the only reason I opened the thread is that I thought at first that Mirren had done a Vivienne Westwood. Now when Westwood grew her hair I thought that was a really interesting look because it seemed to be all her own hair - including the thinning patches.

Well she is 77 and I think it adds a good 5 years or more on to her. I'm not saying long hair is not for older women - I am saying I think she looks better with her short hair due to hair colour, face etc.

But she doesn't look like 77 to begin with 😁

MenopauseSucks · 07/03/2023 09:33

I think she looks great with both.
When it was pulled back from her face I think it looked harsh but I think severely pulled back hair looks harsh, whatever the age.

Sadly I started to lose my hair in my late forties - menopause, female pattern hair loss & Telogen Effluvium.
I used to have long thick hair - I would plait it at night as it was just too much!
Now it's short to give it more volume. I'm only 50 & I don't look like me anymore which isn't a great feeling.
I find I'm obsessed at looking at people's hair, both women & men, and thinking 'you lucky sods'.

In your opinion. Not everyone looks the same age at a certain age 😂

QueefQueen80s · 07/03/2023 09:35

She doesn't have a tight jawline, she has jowls.
Doesn't look like she's had botox either.
She is beautiful fullstop.

Changemaname1 · 07/03/2023 09:37

Iv always thought she is a gorgeous looking woman and think she looks fab with long or short hair

I like to see older women with longer hair it gives me hope that I will be able to keep mine 😂 short hair does not suit my face shape at all tried a few times over the years and it does nothing for me so I dread the thought of “ having “ to cut it off

AnnieMore · 07/03/2023 09:39

Don’t like it. It’s ageing.

Obvs women can have their hair long/short/whatever at any age. I have long hair and I’m 51.

But she looks fab with shorter hair.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 07/03/2023 09:39

I think she looks fab. Mind you she looked fab with shorter hair too.
My grandmothers hair was longer than this at the age of 84. It was white and she wore it in a bun.

HeavenIsAHalfpipe · 06/03/2023 23:15

Ooooh, no it doesn't look good on her. As pps have said, the shoulder length flicky bob type thing she has looks way better. (like in the pics @Bandanadramaposted at 22.05 tonight ) The long hair has made her look older (IMO.)

Nothing to do with her being an older woman, it just does not suit her long. EG; Jane Seymour and Lynda Carter and Crystal Gayle look great with their hair long. Helen doesn't. Looks terrible on her IMO. I can't put into words why... Could be because the three women I mentioned have always had long hair, whilst Helen really only had it when she was very young, and has had it short for some 40 years. So it just doesn't look right long. JMHO.

it's to do with face shape. the women in your post all have smallish faces. Helen Mirren has a long face and the uber long hair elongates it further.

(I too have a long face so I notice these things)

Ironically, the sort hair photo you posted is indeed showing her looking 5 years younger 😂
