Thin brows are back! Oh no!

What do you think about the idea that eyebrows are trending back towards thin "noughties"/2000's brows?

I'm not a fan of the really really fat scouse brows, but I have liked the trend for fuller brows as I think they are more flattering. When I look at photos of myself from the 2000's with those thin brows I cringe a bit and think they looked awful (think Britney or Pamela Anderson brows). However that's where it's headed again apparently! Makes sense that brows are moving to match the clothes fashion I guess, but this is the first time I've felt truly old (43) as I really don't want to follow the fashion as I know how unflattering those eyebrows were the first time round!

Fuck trends.

Just have your eyebrows how you want.

Absolutely this!

WonkyFeelings · 27/02/2023 16:20

For once in my life, I'm ahead of a trend. I tried the natural/thick eyebrows for maybe a couple of years and oh god...it just doesn't work for me. About 6 months ago I said "F this" and thinned them out, and I'm so happy now.

I dont think Ive ever 'styled' my eyebrows, they are just there on the top of my eyes.

Me too. I have a fringe so they just exist happily underneath it and I give them no attention whatsoever. If they started looking like Dennis Healeys eyebrows I would stage an intervention but otherwise they can just be. My SIL will be delighted. She plucked her eyebrows very severely so thin is good.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 27/02/2023 16:46

I looooove thin eyebrows but have never had them (32 y/o). My eyebrow hair, like my head hair, grows astonishingly fast and I have to have them threaded all the time to keep them neat. Thin brows would bankrupt me.

BluebellBlueballs · 27/02/2023 18:07

Who decides these things anyway? It's not like all the top design houses go to an annual conference or something is it. I'd love to know how things are decided to be in or out of fashion...genuine question.

3WildOnes · 27/02/2023 18:09

O never had thin eyebrows when they were in fashion and I've never had big eyebrows either. Always just tidied up my natural brows.

pictoosh · 27/02/2023 18:15

What do you mean ‘oh no’…you don’t have to do it you know. I’ve never followed any eyebrow trend. I wax away the strays and that’s it. For 47 years.
Contrived eyebrows have always looked weird even if everyone is doing it.
See also false eyelashes. When will they die a rightful death?

lucykk · 27/02/2023 18:19

And with an arch that I've seen. I'll be ignoring it as I did with the other eyebrow trends.

yoshiblue · 27/02/2023 18:29

Get in! Mine have never got over manic plucking in 1990s, and I'm not into having my brows done to make them bigger/HD/whatever! 😂

Same.

They suit my face 🤷🏻‍♀️.

UglyModernWindows · 27/02/2023 20:15

I was 23 in 1995 and had the Audrey from Twin Peaks eyebrows too. Thankfully! The really thin brows were never really in my radar.

I now have microbladed brows, fairly blond and subtle but “pulls” my features all nicely together.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/02/2023 20:20

My brows were plucked into The Sperm Shape or The Sharp Angle Level With Your Pupil Look depending on my mood and they've been stroppy ever since .

I imagine them shreiking "Ohh No , not growing" in a Lee Evans voice .

I use Revitalash and dye and I was contemplating a some minor tattooing on the inner edges and the tails ............but I might get away with it now !

Why is it that eyebrows hair is the only one that doesn’t grow back, compared with all the other body hair??

Why is that everybody says that when I've still got the bastarding things trying to reach my eyelashes and forehead, despite years of waxing, uneven plucking and threading?

I'm not going to go thin because I have neither the youth or utter gorgeousness of somebody like Rihanna, but nonetheless, the only change I've seen has been some practically glow in the dark white buggers sprouting in a direct line down from the white stripe on top of my head.

SuperfastJellyfish · 27/02/2023 20:30

Noooo! Mine never recovered from 90s over plucking and I now have them micro bladed.

I feel sorry for all the teenage girls who are going to ruin their eyebrows and then spend the rest of their adult lives drawing them back on.

I am not a fan of the caterpillar eyebrows and the whole lamination thing is awful ... but at least they haven't been ruining their brows with those trends.

dudsville · 27/02/2023 20:30

Eye brows are a pain. I lacked foresight in my youth and over plucked. Thankfully never to the thin line in the pics above, but I've loved the fuller looks (though i won't microblade for it). Now that thinner brows are coming back i still won't be happy as mine now are white and wayward. They grow long and curly, all i do nowadays is try to trim them a bit!

CherryBlossom321 · 27/02/2023 20:30

I was a 90’s overplucker, and it was my biggest ever regret concerning my appearance. Last year I finally got them micro bladed and I’m so chuffed with the results, I would never go back. When I look at the difference in old photos, the lack of definition is really sad. Don’t care what’s trending really, I wouldn’t swap my restored brows for a lot of money! They looked ridiculous.

AutisticLegoLover · 27/02/2023 20:55

@dudsville they are known as eyebrow pubes in our family 😬

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 28/02/2023 00:28

My eyebrows are just 'there' - I've never made them thin or fat... I do colour them as they're going grey these days but they are left to their own devices Smile

VoteTurnipGetTurnip · 28/02/2023 00:41

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 27/02/2023 14:31

When I google 90s brows I just see the spermy examples. But I remember another less extreme brow shape that more people went for: the first cm of your brow was natural and then it arched upwards and thinned out. Can't quite find a photo example of what I mean though,

Trouble is, unless you had an actual arch at the top you ended up looking like Lisa from EastEnders. Rather than Sherilyn Fenn.

Thin brows are back! Oh no!
Mammyloveswine · 28/02/2023 01:14

As a victim of the 90s/00s over plucking trend I have to draw mine in anyway as they are virtually invisible these days Grin.

Fashion conscious youngsters of today heed my warning!!

Agree!! I never did, but also I have thick brows which look nice and I was so happy with the new trend. But my aunty plucked hers I'm guessing as a teen and looks permanently surprised so I never went this far when I was younger. I think it's actually insane to be doing this now as an adult thinking back, plucking is permanent!!

mathanxiety · 28/02/2023 01:57

Haha, they're not going to catch me again with that trick.

Spongeboob · 28/02/2023 02:13

Shaved mine off at 17, never grew back. Over 20 years later I’m pretty good at drawing them on with liquid eyeliner (really, what's the alternative?) Good job I’m what you'd call a "goth". If I fuck up, I can just wipe them off and start again Grin
