And The Navy Linen balloon trousers in S are smaller than the Fenugreek ones in XS!! ..

Oh no. I (also fed up waiting for a sale and not needing anything wintry) ordered the balloon trouser too after the fail with the cream canvas ones. I ordered 2 sizes just in case but it sounds as though even that might fail.
I ordered the fungereek just in case they’re a colour I want . I don’t think they are.

I had my annual fail with Cos for similar coloured trousers
www.cos.com/en_gbp/women/womenswear/trousers/product.pleated-linen-trousers-green.0982785005.html
not as green as I wanted and completely wrong size. I cannot get the hang of Cos at all.

@Dee1224 , thanks. I don't find the models look very good in the ankle grazer style trousers, so there's no hope of the trousers looking ok on me, as (I'm told) I have short legs, and I'm of an athletic build.
Showing them on real people as in a post your own photos would be good, specially if they were on people of different ages and ethnicities.

Something like Libby, 25, size 10 and 5'8", Lisa,55, 5'5", size 12, and Betty 79, size 16 and 5'1" (length of dress shortened to 29") or something. Dressmaking pattern sites do something a bit like that.

Some sites show the clothes on 'plus size' models and often the clothes look awful on them (looking at you Levi's and Boden)

Lucy and Yak show a wide range of models - different sizes, shapes, ethicities and some with disabilities, but the clothes are generally easy to adjust - tie straps and roll-upable lengths. The clothes won't appeal to everyone, though.

Dee1224 · 17/03/2023 15:31

@MerryChristmasToYou Yes, I agree - JL do something similar, I think.

neveradullmoment99 · 17/03/2023 16:20

Well my dress arrived today [ the jersey one with the v neck and v back] Its nice but I'm not really sure about it. Its very ordinary for the price. I am also not sure about the pocket placement. They do stick out a bit, which is annoying. I got the medium, which fits fine over the bust, maybe slightly neat on my hips being pear shaped. It just reminds me of the lydia. So jury is out.
Also received the loop jersey trousers in a small. They fit so much better on me. Not as bulky and in fact took them out the bag and have worn straight away.

neveradullmoment99 · 17/03/2023 16:21

Reviews are so positive about that dress but I am not sure I am feeling the vibe! Will try on again tomorrow and see how I feel about it.

agnesmartin · 17/03/2023 19:05

I'm going to send the v-neck dress back. I actually ordered a second one (picked up in the wee hours when stock reappeared) to see if the pockets sat any differently. They don't. It's not as though they stick out a lot, they just don't sit right and now that I've seen it I can't I see it and, me being me, it'll just annoy me. So I'm returning both.

I'm not inspired by anything else in the current season, sadly.

The Lydia dress was rhe same.

@neveradullmoment99 Bummer!

MiracleToast · 17/03/2023 22:15

@MerryChristmasToYou i love this jacket too! Hoping it makes it into the sale

MerryChristmasToYou · 17/03/2023 23:12

I think I'd need to wait until it reached the charity shop.

Dee1224 · 17/03/2023 14:36

@MerryChristmasToYou , I know what you mean, and I agree to an extent, but I don’t think some of Toast’s very thin models look terribly healthy either! There’s a few in particular that I won’t describe/name, who look quite ill, despite the lighting and make up.

I like what Anthropologie are doing with models of different weights, (still tall, though). Their ‘bigger’ models tend to be women who are close to the ‘right’/healthy weight for someone of that height, body type as opposed to clinically obese like some retailers are showing, (which I agree normalises this in a way not healthy).

I just wish not all of Toast’s models were super skinny and super tall!

As long as the clothes look good on the model I will want to buy them. I'm afraid that if they get normal sized models I may not be as drawn to them as it would all look super mumsy.

Countmeout · 18/03/2023 07:43

I have to agree with @Emotionalstorm re the models. I like seeing real people on the styling videos but I’m not sure it works for me in the online shop. I can generally visualise what will/won’t work for me.
However they used to use an older model which was refreshing.

If the canvas jacket is the same as the canvas trousers the fabric is really lovely, not a blank cream but with a sort of fleck of texture in it , I am explaining this very badly, I had a jacket in fabric like it thousands of years ago . I don’t think I’d realistically get the wear out of this one though.

Lovely surprises today as it's my BD - a Toast voucher from my SIL and the Fracap Ola sandals in black that DH had remembered I'd said I'd like to get whilst on holiday last summer after extolling the comfort of my tan pair.

I've been trying to catch up on this thread and agree with the comments re the models but do feel they've done better in their styling videos. Funny I had been looking at a dress on John Lewis by jigsaw and the dress was calf length - great I thought. Then I read the description the model was 5ft 10! That's going to be floor length on me and wouldn't be the same looking dress at all, totally different style.

In the end I sent back the Toast flat front denim trousers that I extolled the virtues of as though I love them and the fit, I happened to be walking through M and S and saw some wide leg flat front denim trousers in a very smart light weight denim that caught my eye. I bought them and tried against my Toast pair and kept the M and S ones as they filled a smart denim gap in my wardrobe. A bargainous price too. Just a little bit neater than the Toast ones in the width and had that smarter edge.

I don't mind normal models, if the style suits them. I do mind obviously overweight models, unless they really rock the outfit, in which case it may or may not suit me. I've not studied it in depth, but the 'obviously overweight' models only seem to appear in photos of women's clothes, not men's or children's.
Why is that?

If the clothes are for plus sizes, I think they should suit the model's shape. The plus size clothes I've seen marketed at men, tend to have men that might have a high BMI, but don't look particularly like they have a lot of body fat.

@Countmeout , thanks for the description of the fabric, I do like the jacket and trousers, but I suspect that the style won't suit me and I'm the sort who will have spilt coffee or food on a cream blouse or crisp white shirt.
Despite that, and it being way, way, beyond my budget, I am tempted to try it on. There's a Toast shop a few miles from me and the car could do with a run... Smile

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/03/2023 10:38

Many happy returns, @Noeggsontoast !

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/03/2023 11:02

@Countmeout , I can't get the hang of Cos either. Those trousers look khaki not green, and don't get me started on army green being described as khaki.
I stumbled across Arket by accident, I thought the one in Covent Garden was a Market missing an M. Everything looks appealing yet I've never bought anything.

I have several pair of Gap Khakis but none in a khaki colour.

I have a pair of teal hopsack wool trousers from Arket and they are very flattering. I haven't tried ordering anything else though.

Emotionalstorm · 18/03/2023 11:36

Woops sorry not real but greige.

neveradullmoment99 · 18/03/2023 12:36

Personally, I think the Toast models [ the ones displaying the clothes not the photos taken in landscapes ] make the clothes look terrible and frumpy. If I were to rely on those, I would not buy a thing. They are far too thin and gaunt. The clothes look shapeless, too big and drab. Maybe the stick thin models helps for me to visualise it on me, who knows!
Its far better to see the Toast live videos. I actively seek the clothes on instagram that show their items in reality. They have real body shapes and far better.

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/03/2023 13:55

I don't go on instagram, but I think the models look fine. I didn't like it when Toast only showed the clothes unworn.

AFingerofFudge · 18/03/2023 13:57

I think the thing I struggle with regard to the models is that lack of seeing how it looks on someone that is a 38E (me). I've been caught out a number of times buying something that actually doesn't look good on the larger of boob.

Dee1224 · 18/03/2023 13:58

Hi, so I have just come out of the Toast store, having tried on the Pond dress - again! Still pondering it, but I do love it. Tried on the Bryn in small and it was too big on the sleeves/bust area. Shame as the rest looked lovely. I really wanted the dark green version, but sold out in store.

I tried on the red gingham trousers again - only available in medium which were too big. I have decided I don’t really like the dropped crotch.

I tried the crossover linen jumpsuit - I loved it, but the small was a bit too snug and no mediums in stock 🙃

dudsville · 18/03/2023 16:34

@Dee1224 , re those gingham trousers in medium, what toast trouser size do you normally wear? I'm a very hippy toast 14 in proper trousers, but in pjs and easy bottoms i wear a medium, so I'm wondering if that would be the size i go for.

Re the discussion of models, I'm on the fence. I'd like to see a healthy range of shapes and sizes, but our waists are not all located in the same place, so measurements are so much more useful to me.

ScottishMouse · 18/03/2023 17:03

Well, I too sent back the jersey vneck dress after another try on. Just too long and a wee bit tight on the bust, plus I’m not convinced it will wash or wear that well, and not end up looking very scruffy quite quickly.
I also sent back the Aurora sandals which finally made their way from Swansea - too narrow for me.
So my credit card can breathe a sigh of relief for now. Nothing else appeals really.
