Received the vneck jersey dress today. I managed to score one at 4am a few days ago (thanks to whoever gave that tip!). There was only a medium and I would have ordered a small if there was one, but as a standard size 12 with a large bust, the medium is actually the right size, in face a smidge tight on the bust.
It is super flattering, the v is not too deep, and the armholes not too big or too small. I never wear sleeveless tops or dresses, and had thought I would want to wear this with a tshirt underneath, but I actually think I would wear it without.
The only issue is the length, it’s ankle length on me and I’m not sure if I could be bothered going to the effort and expense of having it taken up. It might mess up the vent at the back too.
I am also worried that it might go baggy at the bum and knees after some wear. Has anyone that bought it actually work it yet and can comment?
So, undecided as yet. I also ordered the new Aurora sandals, but they have been stuck in the black hole of Swansea since Monday.

dudsville · 16/03/2023 17:11

@lordloveadog I agree that blue and brown is a great combo, i wine if the easy shirt would go with them...

@Dee1224 , i was banking on that too, what a shame!

Snowyowl78 · 16/03/2023 18:06

@ScottishMouse im having my one of those taken up, also went with the M, my seamstress lady didn’t think it would be a problem and I do trust her, but I’ll let you know how it is when it comes back!

Snowyowl78 · 16/03/2023 18:21

I got something from Vinted today and they didn’t mention that it’s a Toast sample rather than the actual product. Not that I can tell the difference, but if I was selling a sample I would flag that it’s a sample!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 16/03/2023 19:44

@Snowyowl78 I see quite a few bits on Vinted that are flagged as samples, I never buy them as I’m not sure what difference it makes. Are the sizes the same as normal Toast sizes?

Snowyowl78 · 16/03/2023 21:04

@Theteapotsbrokenspout they can be really different, shape/ style/ length details like buttons etc. I think that they are initial prototypes before the roll out the production etc. I imagine the general sizing is the same. But they would also have been at a reduced price I think.

Countmeout · 17/03/2023 09:20

I have the Lydia dress which came also very long with a vent and had it taken up @ScottishMouse . It was fine but will probably depend on how much you want it taken up. Would it matter if the vent was lost?

Thank you @Snowyowl78 that’s interesting , hope your sample purchase is a good one.

No sale yesterday then. I ordered some Toast socks to make up for it though.

Dee1224 · 17/03/2023 10:44

@Snowyowl78 , that’s naughty of the Vinted seller! I got some sample clothes at last April’s pop up for Ukraine. One was that dark red black check oversized dress with the tie neck/collar that still keeps on appearing in sales! It was clearly marked as a sample on the label, but was identical to the one that went on sale. I sold it on eBay for same price as I bought it as it swamped me , and have regretted it ever since.

I am wearing the sample dress I kept today, (even though it’s far too small on top and I have to wear a tank or jumper over it! It’s the Pihu gingham in red/black.

Dee1224 · 17/03/2023 10:51

Samples are usually labelled. Here is the label of the dress I am wearing today.

Samples are also often XS as they use them for the models on the photoshoots. It’s no wonder I can’t fasten this one as I haven’t been XS in anything for many years 🙃

The sample dress I foolishly sold was unusual as an oversized size 10.

They sell a lot of samples at the Shepton Mallet store. The sample dresses are usually about £65 each, if I remember correctly. I got a couple of sample nighties there last year.

Dee1224 · 17/03/2023 11:06

Btw: If you can’t get to Shepton Mallet, they offer a Zoom shopping service and you can return items if you buy them online. My sister bought one of the velvet quilted throws that way last year - in perfect condition and £100 less than online as it was a discontinued colour.

Snowyowl78 · 17/03/2023 11:40

@Dee1224 thanks for the intel! Sorry to hear about your one that got away.

mine has a label like that, I mean it is the same as what was sold on the website as far as I can see, I just didn’t like that it was sold as the real thing and even mentioned the RRP! Never mind, it is nice and I will keep it.

im still convinced there’s going to be a sale, I may be deluded.

Dee1224 · 17/03/2023 11:45

@Snowyowl78, there are some unscrupulous sellers out there, but good that your item is ok!

As there is no sign of a sale 🙃I am off to Toast tomorrow to try on some dungarees, and those leaf trousers, if in stock!

Laska2Meryls · 17/03/2023 13:15

Well Toast sizing is still the same random thing!! Ordered 2 Emma tees in L to make up for size changes.. The Pistachio one is absolutely huge and the Ink only just big enough! 🤦‍♀🙄
So back they go for exchange a M and XL !!

Laska2Meryls · 17/03/2023 13:16

And The Navy Linen balloon trousers in S are smaller than the Fenugreek ones in XS!! ..

Laska2Meryls · 17/03/2023 13:22

.... Its nuts ... Also very annoying , I am sure that lots of their customers are going to be very annoyed especially those of us who are a little larger...

I find I need S ( or XS!) in bottoms and L or XL in tops now ..... I understand that customers needing 6 or 8 were often drowned in Toast previously, but I think it would have been far better if they had just introduced a 'petite ' range alongside the sizing they already had ..

Also I have noticed tops and tees are definitely getting shorter along with trouser lengths.. I am a smidge under 5'6 so not exactly tall... Dresses, it seems are getting longer !!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 17/03/2023 13:31

Oh that’s annoying @Laska2Meryls Emma tees were always something I thought I could rely on in size (or maybe I’ve just been lucky).

dudsville · 17/03/2023 13:40

I loved that pihu dress @Dee1224 , but i tried every size going and it just didn't work for me. Someone many years ago bought it and it looked wonderful on her. Maybe yours can be altered up top? There are some very clever ways of adding fabric to a bodice on the under arm to waist section, like adding extra panels, and with that fabric it would be easy to get a good match in a solid red or black so although it would be visible it could easily seem intentional.

The sizing changes have just left me disconcerted.

Dee1224 · 17/03/2023 13:51

@Laska2Meryls, I wish Toast would sort out their sizing! It’s not very ‘green’ having to constantly send online orders back and forth!

I would also like Toast to have some larger and shorter models in their photos. I am getting a bit sick of super-tall, super skeletal ‘Alex is wearing XS’, (well, there’s a shock), for example. It’s not very inclusive and ‘behind the curve’ as other retailers are using models with a wider range body types.

Dee1224 · 17/03/2023 13:54

@dudsvillegood idea, but I think I need to lose weight 🤣🙃so maybe wearing my dress today will encourage me. 🤞

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 17/03/2023 13:56

@Dee1224 I agree with you, Toast 'live' has the clothes on various size models so I would have thought they could do the same in their photos

Laska2Meryls · 17/03/2023 14:26

Some models with a bust would be good.. and the size .. 'Alison is wearing a 14 and is a 36d'.. Or just proper measurements of each garment size . I often find that I need to size up because of m8ne

MerryChristmasToYou · 17/03/2023 14:26

@Dee1224 , I'm all for showing them on models who aren't naturally 5'11" and size 8, but I won't want to buy something modelled on someone who is obviously overweight.

If I see a photo of someone slender tall and long legged, with their height and size listed, then at least I can think, it looks ok/not ok on her, but won't on me because boobs/shorter legs/whatever.

Using obviously overweight models is normalising it. It's not happening in men's clothing marketing. I'm all for diversity, but not if it normalises unhealthy weight.

MerryChristmasToYou · 17/03/2023 14:31

Some models with a bust would be good.. and the size .. 'Alison is wearing a 14 and is a 36d'.
Yes, and with Alison's height too.

I'd quite like to see a diversity in build and height.

The models are often ethically diverse, but are tall and slim, with no obvious bumps and dips, and that applies to menswear and womenswear.

Dee1224 · 17/03/2023 14:36

@MerryChristmasToYou , I know what you mean, and I agree to an extent, but I don’t think some of Toast’s very thin models look terribly healthy either! There’s a few in particular that I won’t describe/name, who look quite ill, despite the lighting and make up.

I like what Anthropologie are doing with models of different weights, (still tall, though). Their ‘bigger’ models tend to be women who are close to the ‘right’/healthy weight for someone of that height, body type as opposed to clinically obese like some retailers are showing, (which I agree normalises this in a way not healthy).

I just wish not all of Toast’s models were super skinny and super tall!
