Apple linen jumper ( getting my fruit muddled up!)

lordloveadog · 15/03/2023 19:33

Got some things in the post to try today. Sizing intel:

The Gathered Cotton Slub Half Sleeve Tee and the Garment Dyed Boat Neck Tee in XL are both perfect on busty figure high street (M&S, Seasalt) size 18.

They are both very good quality. I'm keeping them - rather to my surprise because they needed to be really good at that price for tshirts. They're quite short on me, but just right with high waisted trousers. I hope they don't get shorter in the wash. The gathered slub one in particular I thought a lovely garment. The boat necks more quality basic.

The Boat Neck Garment Dyed Linen Dress in midnight (blue) was underwhelming. Thin linen. Maybe if you can wear orange, that colourway might be more special. Sizing as usual - I almost always have xl dresses and this fitted nicely. There's a lot of fabric in the skirt, so if you have small shoulders and small bust, you may want to size down.

The Lydia Jersey Shift Dress was rather nice and very good quality feel, but just a bit too tight around my widest part and thus unflattering on tummy. Slightly slimmer hips/less mighty bum and this is a great understated stylish summer dress.

The Sail Stripe Fisherman Trousers are not getting much love in the online reviews, but I really like them and they got teenager approval here too. 'Embrace your eccentricity, mother'. The XL was just right on me. This means the sizes are at the larger end of Toast, since some 18/xl trousers don't fit me, so I can see why the online reviews say they're big. Great on curvy figure - space for bottom and then curve in to high waist.

Thank you @dudsville , it was a fab few weeks travelling and certainly confirmed what my ideal 'now I am retired ' wardrobe should be.. No dresses! ( But that will be different in hotter climes) but I wore all my Toast tees and the trousers that I took ( along with other jeans ) plus my beloved Toast Mira jumpers (I wish they would offer those again ) .. So my current wish list consists of the flat front trousers and the orla olive shoes ( but will definitely look for a cheaper alternative, in the shoes ) , but I am also really tempted by the pear linen jumper and the workwear shirt ..

Why do we think that there is an imminent sale?

Someone thought there was a mid season sale in March I think @Laska2Meryls but I can’t see any sale orders last March on my account.

love that dress on you @Zoetrope1 it really suits you. I wish I could think of somewhere to wear it .

Kin Khaki fisherman sandals
I might try these as the Orla sandals are so expensive. What do you think? Reviews are mixed.. Has anyone tried them?

@Countmeout No neither can I see anything from this time last year... .. well, will keep a look out.. Kin members should get an advance email, if so....

faustina · 15/03/2023 20:07

@Laska2Meryls I think I might have tried those sandals last year, and the toe part was odd - it was quite hard and inflexible and pushed into my toes

faustina · 15/03/2023 20:08

I mean it squashed my toes

Dee1224 · 15/03/2023 20:17

Hi,

Does anyone know how to remove a post? I posted something on the wrong forum!

MerryChristmasToYou · 15/03/2023 20:22

Re: Sale 🥳(or not 🙃)

I remember that there was the pop up for Ukraine in early April. I was new to the delights of Toast then - I wish I had bought more than I did - and it was in a good cause.

I wish they would do something similar every year, (and not just because I like a bargain!) It was a genuinely decent thing to do.

The Shepton Mallet had a more expensive pop up ‘sale’ a week or two later and I just ‘happened’ to be there. I swear I recognised some items from the Mayfair pop up at four times the price!

I don’t remember a sale last March and neither does my Toast-obsessed sister. However, it would be lovely if one happened as I really want the Pond dress, (but not for £175).

I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Dee1224 · 15/03/2023 20:23

Hi, thanks @MerryChristmasToYou - I have reported myself😩

BCamera · 15/03/2023 20:27

Last year's Toast thread has sale posts from 17/3. It was in the 'similar threads' link at the bottom of the page.

MerryChristmasToYou · 15/03/2023 20:28

You're welcome, @Dee1224 .
If you can afford the money, Toast usually lasts and lasts, and they sell well online auction sites. I'd order it and try it on, you might not like it on you.
The clothes are a bit more expensive, but one can buy a lot of tat for the same amount without feeling guilty, and have nothing to show for it.
I'd like a Toast pop-up shop too.

Snowyowl78 · 15/03/2023 20:31

I had an email on 17th March last year but the sale only lasted til the Monday
it was only serious winter stuff- jumpers and coats etc.

Dee1224 · 15/03/2023 20:35

@MerryChristmasToYou. I tried the Pond dress on in the shop and loved it but it had a mark on the front and it was the only one in stock.

I am still pondering the Pond, but I have bought lots recently and am going to Shepton Mallet shop over Easter so am trying to restrain myself before then!

MerryChristmasToYou · 15/03/2023 20:42

You could have bargained the price down in the shop, @Dee1224.
I love a pop-up but rarely see any.
Many years ago I went to clearance sale of 'designer' mail order clothes in a village hall in a nice village. I enjoyed that but only bought a pair of beautifully-made ankle boots, which were too big for me. My feet grew, and I've worn them a lot.

I used to love going to Street in the 1990s and used to buy a lot of Racing Green.
I visited the Mulberry factory shop in Shepton Mallet.

Dee1224 · 15/03/2023 20:59

@MerryChristmasToYou , I went to the Mulberry outlet as well, (to my shame🤣).

I did think about asking for some money off the dress in store but didn’t want to as it was pen and might not have come out. (I also worried that they might think it was me that had done it!)

I am hoping that the Shepton Mallet store might have a promotion on over Easter like they did last year 🤞

ToastCosILoveIt · 15/03/2023 21:54

Good sizing intelligence @lordloveadog , thank you.

dudsville · 16/03/2023 03:35

@lordloveadog , I'm interested in those trousers but wondering what I'd wear with them. Would you say the colour you see online matched with the item irl? It looks like a red sorry of dark brown, how would you describe it?

I'm really looking at all of their easier fitted trousers in this kind of shape. Those red checked trousers haven't come back yet and I'm wondering if they'll restock.

lordloveadog · 16/03/2023 05:36

Yes, essentially dark brown but an interesting shade of it.

I wanted them to wear for being a tourist somewhere hot, so I've tried them with light tops in off-white and white so far and that works well. The cream boat neck t works.

Teenager suggested a top I thought would be too long but was actually nice - they are good with a wider range of shapes than I expected.

I also tried with some blue tops which were surprisingly ok. I felt they want a top that's quite interesting, not too plain, despite having texture and pattern themselves.

There aren't any photos of them being worn online, iirc, which is a shame

I bought the Kin sandals last year and they were absolutely fine, Laska. I took the precaution of wearing plasters over the potential rub areas the first time I wore them but didn’t really need them. Soon I was wearing them all day. M &S are doing a similar style in black or tan this year in a wide fitting. Not much cheaper though, £49.50. Hope this helps

Countmeout · 16/03/2023 10:09

I see one of the reviews says that the Slate jacket is navy. Has anyone seen it in real life. My slate Alix are that dusty black .

OP posts:
Dee1224 · 16/03/2023 10:13

@Countmeout the Slate jacket looked dusty black to me when I saw it in the shop, but it may have been the lighting!

Dee1224 · 16/03/2023 10:15

I am surprised that the red/cream gingham trousers have sold out. They looked and felt remarkably like pj bottoms when I tried them on. (Although I must admit, I did like them!)

I was hoping that no one would buy them so I could pounce in a later sale 🤣

Brackenfield · 16/03/2023 11:26

BCamera · 14/03/2023 20:09

Oh it's hard to figure out. I'm 5'1" and a couple of stone overweight. I would say I'm a 14 but I'm not busty just broad. The M just pulled a little from the arm holes to the front, it was fine everywhere else. I would say the M is closest to a 12. The deliveries & refunds are working well at the moment so am just going to keep reordering until I figure it out. Although if we're due a sale this week things might slow down a bit.

Thank you! Will risk an M and see how we go... :)

Countmeout · 16/03/2023 13:39

Thank you @Dee1224 .
