My money's on Thursday next week for the sale.

Snowyowl78 · 08/03/2023 12:54

Reporting on a few dresses I just got post price changes!

www.toa.st/collections/womens-dresses/products/bryn-tie-neck-reflections-print-crepe-dress-sea-green

this was very nice, but I think I prefer the green one. I was hoping it would be more of an every day dress rather than occasion, but the base colour was a little bit pale for me, so given the choice I’d go for the other colour. Very flattering and comfortable. Sending back. Sizing no different to normal. Think I’ll wait for the sale on the other one.

I had big plans for this one but it was a bit underwhelmed. It felt quite big but I don’t think I could have gone down a size because tThe arms would be restrictive. Too long for me. Very nice on the right person I imagine. Sleeves are full length. Sending back. Sizing quite large.

surprise winner! Really really nice, flattering, comfortable, suitable for casual wear which is my eternal quest for dresses. I love it so much that I am tempted to order the Dhal colour immediately. Obviously it’s still really expensive but I don’t think it’ll go to sale until late summer so I am going to keep it. I may take it up a few inches but it’s also good as it is. I’m glad I went for it as I just ordered on a whim to try out when the price dropped! Sizing is probably normal.

Saurus72 · 08/03/2023 13:07

Agree re: the pale colour for the Bryn dress @Snowyowl78 - I tried it on when I was in the Cambridge store on Saturday. Nice dress but quite wedding-guest kind of vibe I think.

Re: the cotton/linen dress, that’s a really lovely one! So if I took a medium in the Bryn dress what would you say for this dress? Any shared images gratefully received 😊

Snowyowl78 · 08/03/2023 13:44

@Saurus72 agree about the wedding guest vibe. It was really nice, just I probably looked better in the green one and I don’t want to buy any ‘occasion’ type dresses until the sale if even then.

I also had the Bryn in mediums, I got the linen one in a 12. IRL I am a 14 id say. I think the 12 is right, I could try a 10 as I am losing weight but I think the arms would be too restrictive so I probably won’t bother.

for ref I am a 12 in Alix and Gabi, a 12 or 10 in an ‘easy’ dress (harlequin/ Luna)

Slightly concerned there may be shrinkage because of the linen- do you think?

Countmeout · 08/03/2023 13:56

I think linen also stretches when you wear it @Snowyowl78 It’s a difficult balancing act.

Saurus72 · 08/03/2023 16:27

Thanks v much @Snowyowl78 I’m a 12 in the Luna and harlequin dresses so a 12 in the linen dress sounds lovely. I have the darker green bryn dress and I like it, hoping to wear it most of the year - either with sandals or boots and woolly tights. I think it’s way more flexible than the other one.

Snowyowl78 · 08/03/2023 18:00

@Countmeout thanks good point!

@Saurus72 I am nervous the green one will sell out and I did really like it. I really want to wear dresses on a day to day basis but I can’t get out of the mindset that it’s being ‘dressed up’ silly really. The linen ones I think can definitely be worn for any occasion I think. If I get the other linen one this is a major outlay to get the Bryn one too, hmm.
the arms weren’t tight by the way, I meant just across the back when raising my arms I think a 10 would be too tight.

Saurus72 · 08/03/2023 18:03

Ha yep - £400+ for 2 dresses is not insignificant. I will need to wait for payday which is over 1 week away before ordering the linen dress - I always pay off my credit card every month and this month has been pretty expensive expensive 😬

Snowyowl78 · 08/03/2023 18:08

@Saurus72 i’ll have to make it my only spend for March I think, I’ve ordered a load of stuff this month but it’s all going back bar this linen dress. Although I have got the jersey v neck one en route, will have to be very special!

mizu · 08/03/2023 18:08

@dudsville ooh I hope so......still holding onto my birthday TOAST vouchers.

Snowyowl78 · 08/03/2023 18:12

I was hoping they might do some sort of discount soon, what with the weird price changes and lack of new reviews I wondered if they might do something to boost sales. Probably wildly optimistic of me.

MaroonedOnADesertIsland · 08/03/2023 21:11

Thank you to the poster who linked to the uniform research sale. I bought the chambray tie neck dress. It is v amish in vibe but I think I am going to roll with it 😆
I also received my toast dress that has been visibly mended - quite a sweet little patch near the pocket. It's a good service I think, seems really at odds with the over priced renewed items though.
Ohhh I would love a sale next week.
The Jersey dress a few of you have bought is lovely, toast at its understated best.

I bought the velvet skirt. They waited a week then refunded me as out of stock 🤬

MaroonedOnADesertIsland · 09/03/2023 09:41

Ah that's annoying

Noeggsontoast · 09/03/2023 10:39

Well the green Bryn dress arrived this morning and it's a definite return. Colour not as bright as I believed, size too large and just didn't suit my shape. I scratched my itch and it didn't work out.

On the other hand the flat front denim trousers are fab! Wish I'd bought them sooner!! So comfy and flattering and a perfect length. I'm quite tempted by the striped collared tee, I think it would be lovely with these trousers.

MaroonedOnADesertIsland · 09/03/2023 12:49

Those trousers do look nice @Noeggsontoast and reasonably priced for Toast (!)

I wanted to share a brand I came across
Soeur

Sadly probably more expensive than Toast but I became aware of them buying a discounted shirt in a boutique. Find them quite Toast-a-like.

Also a question for @Laska2Meryls - I remembered you ordered from Article Green - would you recommend and what do you think about the sizing, TTS or not? Hope you are enjoying your trip away 🙂

Noeggsontoast · 09/03/2023 12:52

@MaroonedOnADesertIsland they sell Soeur at John Lewis and I've several items in my basket.... yes more expensive than Toast but some lovely pieces.

MaroonedOnADesertIsland · 09/03/2023 12:59

Thanks for the heads up!

MerryChristmasToYou · 09/03/2023 14:02

I'm not a Toasty but I do have the odd thing from there.
I fancied the Ava boots when they had them in burgundy or black, but not brown.
Tried buying on ebay but going down half a size they were still far too big for me.
Found this link and ordered a whole size smaller than usual. They arrived in 2-3 days, and fit well. Very happy with them and the price.

Saurus72 · 09/03/2023 14:14

Thanks @MaroonedOnADesertIsland there are some beautiful dresses on that website, will keep an eye out for sale prices on JL 😊

faustina · 09/03/2023 15:29

I also have some Soeur in my JL wishlist but I think it's a bit overpriced considering the amount of synthetic fabric they use

@MerryChristmasToYou - thanks for that link to retrostar - I'd never heard of it before. Have bookmarked it!

It would be nice if Toast had another offer like they did for fair isle wouldn't it?

ScottishMouse · 09/03/2023 16:01

Went to a store to try on some dresses today. My plan had been to treat myself when I got offered a new job…which I then missed out on ☹️…but decided I would cheer myself up instead! 🙄
They didn’t have any of the jersey vneck dress that everyone has been talking about. And the linen cotton panelled one did not work - too tight on the bust in a 10, too large on the shoulders in a 12. But I splashed out and bought the new ikat jacket….so cute!
Now back to job searching so I can actually justify the purchase!

mizu · 09/03/2023 16:50

Bad luck about the job @ScottishMouse. I'm hoping to try on the panelled cotton linen dress in slate and the boatneck garment dyed linen dress. Both look like great staples.

ScottishMouse · 09/03/2023 17:31

Thanks @mizu. Have been out of the interview game a long time, so I shouldn’t have got my hopes up as much as I did. Onwards and upwards.
Meanwhile, I have a lovely new jacket to enjoy.

MerryChristmasToYou · 09/03/2023 17:42

@faustina , neither had I. I was about to click Pay, and decided to look for a discount code, and found that site by accident. Saved myself £50! The boots are lovely. They also have Dealer boots and 8-hole derby boots (like Dr Marten boots) in the sale. Quite a few other classic brands too

I'm eyeing up the Jura fairisle sweater
