Why do people go on about pockets in dresses?

I don’t get the love for this. You don’t out things in the pockets and you don’t stand / walk about with your hands in them so why do people love them?! Please enlighten me!

I did a talk at work on the pockets of patriarchy (can't think why they decided to make me redundant.)

Pockets are very useful. Pockets should be deep enough at least to hold a mobile phone, and not of slippery, shiny material that things will easily slip out of.

Sainsbury’s dresses and skirts usually have pockets. I was delighted to discover a dress I had ordered from Lilysilk had good, deep pockets, too.

This was an interesting book.

The word 'pocket' looks weird now

Most of my dresses & skirts have deep pockets (I make them). Now I use apple pay on my phone I often go out without a handbag. Phone in one pocket. Keys & lip balm in the other. Fab.

I WFH and always have my phone in my pocket.

It is the middle of winter. How can you possibly go out in a dress with a phone, Lily, tampax and tissues in your pocket?

With thick tights and a jumper.

I never put anything in pockets apart from zip up ones on coats - I feel like things will fall out plus it ruins the shape of the clothes.

I hate pockets in the sides of trousers or dresses, my hips are wide enough as it is without adding an extra layer of fabric. But I do have a jumper dress with large patch pockets more on the front that I love - and I do put my hands in them when it's cold out.
