I've caught the ear piercing bug and can't decide what to get done next. I currently have 3 lobe on my left and 4 lobe and tragus done on my right. Looking for inspiration.
Please show me your beautiful ears ☺️

Glad you got it redone. Did they go through the exact same spot? Did it hurt more being scar tissue?
What else do you have in the ear that you're planning the next snonch / daith? Maybe try googling for images of similar piercings and see if you can find the right combo. Might help you visualise?

They didn't go through the same spot as they said it could end up swelling pretty bad so it's slightly more over than before just going through the whole healing process again which is a pain as at 4 months old it felt like it was already half way there to being fully healed.
When I had it original downsized the bar I chose a lovely Tish Lyon gem attachment and it was lovely but I think because of its size and shape it was difficult to clean the area and made things complicated.
So this time I've had a peacock neometal ball attachment so it's at least colourful rather than just a plain titanium ball.
Lesson learnt though for me until any of my piercings are fully healed as much as I love the fancy jewellery that you can have for cleaning purposes I'm sticking with normal ball ends or easy attachments that can be easy to clean and not allow stuff to build up without being able to clean it off.
It didn't hurt still feel my rook was the one that hurt the most for me I know everyone is different with pain but I think that was more because it's thicker and more fiddly getting the jewellery in that's one I won't be changing myself when it's healed and wanting something different in I will defiantly be going back to the shop and getting them to.

Well I desperately needed my roots done but was worried about going to the hairdresser and getting dye in my healing piercings, so dug out my old NVQ hairdressing certificate from 25 years ago (I quit right after I qualified), got myself a Salon Services trade card, and bought the stuff to do it myself. Might seem a bit daft but any time I go to the hairdresser I always seem to end up with colour everywhere. Did a decent job if I do say so myself and none of it went near my piercings.

I'll go back when my highlights need doing (I was only doing the base colour) by which time they should be well healed.

I've had no trouble with my helix or forward helix. The tiny, sore-ish lump that popped up behind my helix one day was gone two days later. It must be about five weeks now and they seem to be healing really well.

FunkyMonks · 27/04/2023 07:09

That's good news. To be fair my hairdresser was really good yesterday didn't get dye or even water on mine just had the accidental bump which is to be expected so I was happy I wasn't walking out of there in agony 🤣

Swiftbushome · 27/04/2023 07:38

Thats good to hear. I'm planning on getting a haircut on Saturday. Slightly nervous but hopefully all will be ok. I don't colour so I guess that makes it a bit less risky

OP posts:
FunkyMonks · 27/04/2023 10:32

Yea it should be all good just keep politely reminding them that's all.

Ratatatatatouille · 27/04/2023 14:21

@Swiftbushome just four lobes. I have always wanted my daith but I do think a snonch is pretty. BUT such thick tissue there I expect 2 years healing time, and daith is nicely tucked away so I reckon it’ll be that anyway.

Swiftbushome · 28/04/2023 18:14

Anyone want to inspire me as to what piercings to get? The left ear will be the next one I get done (the one with just the triple lobes) and it won't be till after the summer because I want to be able to swim and everything, but I'm bored so fancy planning 😁. What would you get next?

Ohh I would say a conch or a rook or even triple helix would look nice 😊

Swiftbushome · 17/04/2023 20:17

I need to get a haircut soon as well. I'm not worried about the tragus. Since it's right by my face it never gets knocked but I was thinking I might put a plaster over my helix piercing.

I'm getting my hair done Saturday and I've got fresh helix piercings that are still tender.

I am getting my roots done... Scared!

I might bandage my ears, too.

AgingDisgracefullyHere · 04/05/2023 18:10

FunkyMonks · 18/04/2023 11:25

Yea that's my biggest worry I've already lost my conch piercing I don't want to risk my helix and rook.
I did spot on Amazon these plastic ear clips that go over your ear does look daft but I guess I'd rather look daft and protect my piercings than risk getting an infection or accidentally ripped 😬.
I appreciate it's not hairdressers fault they can't keep in mind about piercings when trying to do their job.

What are these called? I want yo look for them.

FunkyMonks · 04/05/2023 22:27

Honestly don't bandage your ears I was advised against that when I went in to have my conch re pierced I asked them should I cover them and they said no as if water or dye got on the bandage you run risk of moisture sitting on it too long opening it up for risk of infection etc.

I didn't bother covering up mine in end my hairdresser was fab she only accidentally bumped mine twice which didn't hurt thankfully but all I did was politely keep reminding her about the ear 🤣🤣 she was brill she even said to keep reminding her.
Didn't get dye or water on mine.

If all else fails you could just use your hand to gentle cup around the ear instead but I wouldn't worry.

Those Amazon ear clips I seen all had terrible reviews about falling off being too big and I kept thinking they might do more damage than good.

SaltanVinegar · 05/05/2023 07:18

Hi all, I’ve enjoyed reading this thread! I’ve caught the piercing bug this year, have had three lobes done for about 20 years and wanted a tragus forever, so I finally bit the bullet in February and did it. First jewellery change was the other day, and I came out with a mid helix and flat to go along with it 😂. Will share photos when my new lobe jewellery arrives. Loved seeing everyone else’s set ups so far!

EarCurationInProgress · 05/05/2023 15:52

Work-In-Progress here. The tiny three-gem stud in the helix was just done a few days ago.

Next on the list will be a forward helix on the ear which has the blue stud in the lobe - ideally a tiny hoop with an orange gem.

As an aside, and sorry for the 🤢 - any suggestions for cleaning totally-healed piercings that occasionally smell a little 'cheesy'? NeilMed as usual, or is there anything I can use eg with cotton buds to get right under the flat backs.

Swiftbushome · 05/05/2023 18:28

Ooh I love that sparkly 3 gem piece you have in your helix.
Not sure about the cheesy thing I'm afraid. Made me laugh though 😂.
I have a gross piercing bump come up on my tragus (again!!) Looks like a blister. It's the 3rd time I've had it and no idea why.
Any ideas? It's been almost 3 months since I got it done now. Does it mean it's not going to heal or will it eventually just sort itself out?

OP posts:
FunkyMonks · 05/05/2023 18:38

@Swiftbushome have you had the jewellery downsized could it be the bar is too long and it's accidentally getting knocked? Or sleeping on it.
Another thing it could be the metal is it titanium you have as that tends to be the best as it's hypoallergenic so less risk of reaction to it.

Failing that it could just be one of those things I sadly got a bump on my tragus repeatedly and in end took it out same with forward helix I just figured they were in spots that were constantly getting bumped whether in my sleep or what or getting caught with my hair clothes etc.

FunkyMonks · 05/05/2023 18:45

@EarCurationInProgress
In regards to the ear cheese 🤣 have you tried to get cosmetic buds instead they are pointy one end and flat the other end unlike the normal ear buds.

If it's fully healed another thing you could try is a babies tooth brush they are tiny super soft could try gently brushing that over the back but has to be brand new don't go using a used one on the ear 🤣 that was some advice I was given for cleaning the back of the flats.

If it's healed there's no need to use neilmed I find that dries out my skin and ends up making my skin flake.
I only use that as and when needed to clean crusties off new piercings etc or if I get any lumps or irritation.

Ratatatatatouille · 05/05/2023 19:52

if it’s healed just either remove it and give it a good clean with a gentle soap or use shampoo on it when you do your hair. That’s what I do anyway.

with regards to your tragus, just persevere. I had blood blisters on mine too but it resolved itself.

Pickingmyselfup · 06/05/2023 09:56

I really want to get my tragus done in the next few weeks but typically my helix's and conch are playing up! Bought a fake ear cuff to replicate the conch on the other ear as I'm debating going for that once my industrual has healed. I really don't know why I have so much trouble healing piercings but I'm getting my first tattoo soon and hoping that fares better.

FunkyMonks · 06/05/2023 10:04

Tattoos are so much easier than piercings normally done within two weeks to four weeks depending on size and location I've never had any issues with my tattoos.
I also love that the healing process is a lot shorter so it doesn't feel like your having to miss out on activities like swimming etc.
Only advice with tattoo is make sure you have good aftercare product for cleaning and moisturising to stop it from drying out.

Also another thing is if it's somewhere that will see a lot of sun make sure once it's healed to get good sun cream to protect it.
Obviously whilst it's healing don't have it out in the sun.

I feel like it will be better, I'm getting 3 small paw prints on my ankle, how much is it going to hurt??

Swiftbushome · 06/05/2023 10:53

I don't think it will hurt much unless it's right on the knobbly bit of bone. It won't take long anyway if it's small. I don't actually really find tattoos painful tbh. Feels like getting repeatedly twanged with an elastic band 😂

OP posts:
FunkyMonks · 06/05/2023 12:40

To be honest it all depends on pain threshold everyone is different.
Make sure you have something to eat before appointment drink plenty of water.
You'll find for the first hour you won't feel it so bad because of your adrenaline.
It's after an hour that you start to feel the annoying scratching.

I love the sound of the tattoo gun find it calms me that and if the artist is friendly chatting away with them takes your mind off it.
A sports drink is also worth taking or something sugary to have right after just to help you feel better.

Ankle area maybe painful as it is bone there's a chart on Google that highlights painful areas to get tattoo but it's just a rough guide as everyone is different.

Butterluxe and stories ink are too really good tattoo care products to look at if your artist hasn't already made suggestions

Pickingmyselfup · 06/05/2023 14:29

I hope it will be OK! I'll do that then get the tragus done. I had a good look at my conch and realised it was sore because there was a blister on the back. Swapped the hoop over for one that goes all the way through and will just clean it for the next few days. I suspect it was getting irritated because the hoop I had in was crystallised so easy to get caught.

Once the industrial is a bit more healed I'll get the conch done on that side, put my fake ear cuff on to replicate it and I think it fills up the space nicely. Then I think that's my ears done!
