Jeans and a ‘nice top’

So short of ‘nice tops’

i have jeans of every shape, leather trousers and skirts- but my top half is a bit lacklustre. I went out to the pub earlier and felt like I dressed exactly the same as if I had popped to the supermarket.

I have either basic casual tops- wraparound, striped bretons, plain shirts and a few ‘going out tops’ which are pre covid and just aren’t my style any more.

Can anyone suggest a ‘nice top’ to go with mom jeans or flares? Anyone bought anything nice lately?

I really like the floral tops from fat face- something like this for the pub in the evening. But then I'm not a very dressy up person!

@GoldenCagedBird I know what you mean. I love my Mom jeans but only wear them with plain white t shirts and trainers.

I’ve got some leather look jeggings that I wear with a jumper and chunky boots. I used to wear skinny jeans and ‘nice tops’ but I don’t wear skinny jeans anymore and I never see any tops I like.

When I go out now I tend to wear a dress and trainers or my DMs.

Got my eye in this, tucked in to jeans with a tan bag and big earrings:

I think the fashion now is to wear very plain, minimalist things like a black turtle neck and then accessorise with lots of layered gold jewelery and maybe bright lipstick.

I think shirts and blouses always look a bit more elevated.

GoldenCagedBird · 14/02/2023 22:15

I like these so far- having a dig through asos. I think I need some brighter colours and different textures to make them more ‘going out’-y

I dress like this during the day though, minus bright lipstick or I’d smear it on my loved ones.

I love the look but I went out with DH for a Valentine’s drink and realised in the loos wore the same outfit as what I wore at aldi 4 days previous

Ok, think I'm a lot older than you judging by these, please ignore my suggestions! I'm not a fan of the first one as looks a bit cheap? Second one is fun though!

I've had some lovely tops recently through stitch fix. (I also have £15 referral credit for anyone who wants to try it here www.stitchfix.co.uk/invite/y8295x2d93?sod=m&som=c)

I absolutely love my box, I've set it to every 3 months and I generally limit myself to 2-3 items otherwise I could spend a fortune.

These are the two "nice tops" I've had recently. I wear them a lot!

I like East for sheer, floaty tops. I usually wear a camisole or sleeveless t-shirt underneath, Uniqlo bra-top vests are particularly good as they have quite a few colours and have a built-in bra so no bra straps showing. I like a bit of floral but stay away from the overly ethnic or anything with a frill or tassels.

Sorry, OP, too old for you if you're in your 20s. But good for us over-40s.
