Apparently the Waleses were meeting with HH and MM to discuss green energy so that may explain Kate's ensemble! The whole outfit was bespoke Burberry and the blouse alone cost about £1000. But I've got silk shirts from &OS that I think are much nicer!

gingercat02 · 03/03/2023 15:58

Charles and Camilla are off on State visits to France and Germany on 26 March. Do state visits to republic's include state banquets? And therefore full on tiaras and bling?

...so, only green in one sense then 🙄
Maybe I'm being unfair, and she'll wear it a lot over the next 50 years...

Anybody want to point out to Kate that the national colour of Ireland is actually blue?.

TangledWebOfDeception · 03/03/2023 16:21

If there’s anyone who by past evidence is likely to a) stay slim enough to keep wearing all her clothes and b) hang on to everything in order to use it again years later, Kate is that person! So I’m willing to give her that. I think she’s going to end up like Anne - still wearing things in her 70s that she first wore half century before.

She's already worn the blouse at least once before, so I guess that's a start.

LadyEloise1 · 03/03/2023 16:27

State visits to Republics do indeed include State Banquets and jewels but probably just worn by the British royals.
Remember the Queen's historic visit to Ireland ?

Well exactly.

The right shades of blue and green go very nicely together - and there are lots of coordinating colours to choose from that could be added in as a third accent. Of course they would all need to be right in order to work together.

I honestly didn't know that!

Chulainn · 03/03/2023 17:47

Both green and blue represent Ireland. The association with green dates back to the mid-1600s and was traditionally associated with Catholics and rebellion while blue is Anglo-Irish and is from a later date. Traditionally, everyone wears green on St. Patricks Day. I'm Irish, living in Ireland, and have never seen anyone wear blue to celebrate St. Patricks Day.

Maireas · 03/03/2023 17:55

No, I understand that, @Chulainn - of course people wear green on St Patrick's Day, I'm just joking about Kate being wedded to green for all things Irish.

OP posts:
TangledWebOfDeception · 03/03/2023 17:55

Ah no one’s saying that green isn’t associated with Ireland/St. Patrick’s day! Nor that Kate shouldn’t wear green (it really was tongue in cheek - I love tradition and ritual just as much as Kate seems too). Far be it from me to tell a nation how to celebrate its identity!

I’m really just talking in fashion terms! It’d be nice to see a little bit of colour peeking through. But if tradition states that it’s head to toe green then I will certainly acquiesce - don’t know enough about the relevant history to know any detail and have never lived there. As you can probably tell... Grin

(As I said I love the colour anyway and will happily see yet more of it)

TangledWebOfDeception · 03/03/2023 17:56

*seems to, obviously 🙄

TangledWebOfDeception · 03/03/2023 17:59

And I teased her just as much about her red and white literal dressing when she visited my home country! 🇩🇰

Maireas · 03/03/2023 17:59

Wouldn't it be great if Kate presented the shamrock wearing bright yellow?!

She paid a grand for that blouse. Jakers

@Maireas braw is high praise indeed.
I think PoW looks braw today. I'm another who could only wear a cream coat if I had a dry cleaner on speed dial and also a fellow sufferer of puffballaritis - overdosed on puff, flounce and frill in the 80's and been cold turkey ever since. @01189998819991197253Sheldon my grandad was a ploughman with heavy horses, lots of stories of his time on many farms, staying in bothies.
Really finding my tribe on this thread today.

Wondering if ‘braw’ comes from the Irish ‘go brea’ which has similar pronunciation and means something is fine or good.

back to Kate. I mean she’d BLEND RIGHT IN on March 17th in a parade is all I’m saying. Maybe the London parade is looking for a Grand Marshall. Equally we have a Leprechaun museum in Dublin and that outfit would work there also….

Chulainn · 03/03/2023 19:43

Sorry @Maireas @TangledWebOfDeception it's been a long day. Should have realised your comments were tongue in cheek.

I think the green coat on St. Patricks Day is a nice but agree the rest of it could be a different colour. Nobody in Ireland wears all green. We've far too much fashion sense for that 😁

Well I don’t think we will ever forget it tbh. HMQ said her bit as gaeilge and the nation fell in love just a little bit.

Maireas · 03/03/2023 19:48

Ach, don't apologise, @Chulainn - just join in the craic!

I will. I'm a long time lurker but these threads are my favourite on MN.

TangledWebOfDeception · 03/03/2023 20:14

@Chulainn now that you’re no longer lurking the first rule is you have to pick out your inaugural tiara! You need something suitable to wear to the supermarket and other such outings now that you’re one of us.

MotherofPearl · 03/03/2023 20:16

I am surprised by how much I love Leti's shawl collar Hugo Boss coat. It is the perfect shade of red, imo. I much prefer this kind of look to the monochrome thing that Kate is really favouring atm.

I agree @MotherofPearl, that’s a lovely coat, and I also prefer it to the all-out monochrome outfits, much more relaxed.
