SOTD Santal Volcanique de Maison Crivelli

DramaAlpaca · 13/05/2023 02:05

SOTD Musc Invisible again.

SOTE a sample of SSOTPE. I hadn't given this one much time before, certainly wasn't a love at first sniff, but revisited it the other day and I'm going to have to buy a bottle. It's amazing.

@LolaMoon Try Ormonde Woman by Ormonde Jayne. It has black hemlock and is unlike anything I've tried. You could also look at Papillon Spell 125: it's very dark and mysterious!

Thank you so much! I will search this out x

LolaMoon · 13/05/2023 07:03

Wearing Tom Ford rose prick today- such a beautiful fragrance. Its a very jammy rose but with a very sultry, dark base note. Not sickly sweet at all.

InsomniacVampire · 13/05/2023 07:24

SOTD Boucheron Santal de Kandy

AprilLady · 13/05/2023 10:06

Very glad to have got to Saturday after a busy week. @LolaMoon interesting re Rose Prick. I’ve only sampled in store and was somewhat on the fence about it, despite being drawn towards almost all things rose.

SOTD Diptyque L’Ombre Dans L’Eau edp. Love this.

alltheevennumbers · 13/05/2023 10:24

SotD is Si Le Parfum. Consequently I am thinking about Nesquick, and about the satisfaction derived from weighty bottle lids. See also Mary Greenwell. The sort you weigh in your hand and then feel strangely compelled to lob through a window. (Or is that just me Grin).

I have a corresponding dislike of those excellent cheapies spoilt by a plastic lid. Just don't.

alltheevennumbers · 13/05/2023 10:25

*Nesquik even.

TakeYourHatOffBoy · 13/05/2023 17:04

SOTD is Tam Dao. When I first tried this years ago I believe I made disparaging remarks about student bedsits and too much tie-dye. How wrong I was! Sandalwood to the max, obviously, but deep and sweet and dry, without dustyness.

TakeYourHatOffBoy · 13/05/2023 17:05

And yes, with you on those MG bottle tops @alltheevennumbers - lethal weapons!

alltheevennumbers · 13/05/2023 19:24

Any Eurovision inspired scents of the evening?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/05/2023 23:49

Hello, I have totally lost you all - hope everyone is okay! SOTD was MMM Untitled. Big bright green.

FestivelyScent · 14/05/2023 00:03

Waves to @Judystilldreamsofhorses 👋

Hmm, Eurovision scents... It would have to be something fun that also pushes boundaries, a fragrance from Eldo, maybe? Or even something hopeful and 'New Look-ish' from the fifties, when Eurovision started. No definite suggestions, though.

SOTN is No19.

@alltheevennumbers totally with you on the bottle tops.

Wore a Flowerbomb flanker this evening that I'd blind bought at a discount and wanted to try. Out this evening I got complimented and asked what I was wearing. I couldn't remember! It's pleasant enough, florally fruity, but not really me.

I need to give Eurovision scents a think. Certainly it'd be something quirky and unisex that doesn't take itself too seriously.

@DramaAlpaca - thank you for defining the Eurovision brief. On that basis I have gone with SotD #1 as Pharrell Williams/CDG's Girl - international collaboration, plays with stereotypes, part popular culture (the Kaws bottle and street art references), but something more profound going on there too. Plus it's strong on violet and, in a fit of madness, am sticking violet through my hair this morning. Is Girl still cheap as chips? I do think it's an interesting option for a spring Sunday morning - a milky peppery violet/cedar - with a wet concrete undertow. It is quite synthetic smelling, in that way cedar can sometimes be, but all the better for being out and proud about that.

So the woody peppery notes lead me to SotD #2 which also rolls with the Eurovision theme: it's Hyperbole (Courreges). THE BEST NAME FOR A BOTTLE OF PERFUME, EVER. This is pure, pure class - peppery multi-dimensional tobacco/vanilla, on a warm balsamy/woody base. The muse was Grace Jones. Slightly more cashmere jumper/pyjamas territory, but in truth it is a complete delight at any point.

Fun fact - Antoine Lie was the nose for both (I didn't know that until checking just now).

SOTD Verveine d'Été by Le Jardin Retrouve no Eurovision scent for me as I imagine sweaty lurex Envy

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/05/2023 21:10

SOTD Diorissimo.

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 14/05/2023 21:24

I am still smelling yesterday’ s SOTD on my clothes today. I wore Angel Nova by Mugler.

FestivelyScent · 14/05/2023 22:15

SOTN is Ambre Orient.

SOTD (so far) Zoologist Chameleon. For a fleeting moment the topnotes of this smell exactly like those sweet necklaces that you used to be able to buy, which is fun. After that it's a juicy mango and white floral with a woody base. Like all of the Zoologist line, it's beautifully blended but it's probably a wee bit too sweet for me.

Cantonet · 15/05/2023 09:27

Diorissimo also for me today.
I found a small patch of lily of the valley in my garden & it reminded me to wear it. I'm afraid Eurovision completely passed me by ( thankfully)!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/05/2023 10:49

SOTD Chanel No 5.
