Clinique Aromatics Elixir is one of my all time favourite perfumes & was my first 'proper' smell! It will always have a special place in my heart, but I do think they've changed it and removed that special spicy richness from the middle.

@Laiste Shalimar is probably the only perfume I could reach for all year round. I've always thought it especially suits Easter though, that's it's natural home for me. It doesn't make me feel hot, to me it has a warm-cool thing going on, with both in balance.

@AprilLady Complete agree with Selfridges being aimed almost completely at wealthy tourists. I only visit the fragrance dept, now. The rickshaws and their deafening music parked outside the Oxford St store make this impression worse.

SOTN is Ambre Orient. I'm feeling really Easter-y this evening - maybe because I'm eating toasted and buttered hot cross buns for a light dinner. Somebody should bottle this smell - it would make a gorgeous spicy and rich, but cheerful perfume. Easter Smile

Thanks to mentions on this post I have bought Pierre Cardin Choc and Agent Provocatuer. I have used Agent before but not Choc. Love them both bit very different.

Deathraystare · 06/04/2023 01:26

Also found my Estee Lauder perfumes after a tidy up. Private Collection, Alliage and Azuree. Oh and white linen.

TakeYourHatOffBoy · 06/04/2023 09:52

SOTD is White Heart from Map of the Heart. Random sample picked out of the box, no idea where or when I got it! But it's actually rather fab.

I am a total sucker for lavender and this has a ton in the topnotes, but it's spicy rather than twee. Looking at the notes on fragrantica it has vetiver in the base, and Too Much Vetiver is my nemesis note, so fingers crossed its not excessive. But really enjoying this so far.

Amen to that! 😃

Aromatics Elixir takes me back to when i worked for Clinique (obvs) but also the glamorous older lady who trained me. She'd been working for C for hundreds of years it seemed to me, and i think had AE instead of blood at that stage 😂She was teeny tiny with snow white hair in a huge beautiful bouffant and spotless white coat dress (hard to maintain for a day messing with make up). Every one was 'daaaahling' 😊

I don't have a bottle, and haven't smelt in for ages. I'd be sad if it's changed.

But isn't it amazing what memories even thinking about certain perfumes bring back!?

CorneliaStreet · 06/04/2023 19:43

SOTE Kayali Invite Only Amber. I’m really enjoying the sample of this one, might have to get a mini. It’s warm and sweet and spicy, but I don’t find it too heavy. Lovely on a chilly spring evening.

FestivelyScent · 06/04/2023 23:11

I remember glamorous older women like that at my primary school. Big hair, bold lipstick, and trail of powerful scent following them up and down corridors. And for some reason a smell of mint too. They were a breed of their own - disappeared now, I think. Not glamorous women obvs, but that particular type.

SOTN is Shalimar. For some reason, I really do think this very Easter-y. 🌷🐣Easter Smile

I’ve heard a lot about Shalimar. Maybe I should try it! According to the Guerlain website you can even get it as a shower gel and body lotion.

The last time I wore perfume it was Roses de Chloe. Sadly it seems to have been discontinued although it’s still available on the House of Fraser website. Lots of the perfumes I have seem to have been discontinued sadly.

LOVE Azuree. Always wanted to try Alliage/Aliage but it goes for a bomb on eBay these days. Late 60s/70s/early 80s really were fabulous years for perfumery.

I recognise the description (and smell) of those women, @FestivelyScent, remember being taught by one in primary school. Sadly I only seem to come across them in hospital waiting rooms these days...still smelling bloody fantastic.

Hadn't realised Bernard Chant was responsible for both Azure and Aliage, plus, Cabochard and Aromatics Elixir (and Cinnabar and Aramis). Like Edmond Roudnitska, that's a small, brilliant body of work. (In contrast Bertrand Duchaufour has 270 perfumes listed on Fragrantica).

alltheevennumbers · 07/04/2023 13:52

The Azuree chat is a good prompt to celebrate leather notes! Have mixed feelings about Shay and Blue but think their Blacks Leather Club is good (and their discontinued Suffolk Lavender was very good).

Was about to dig out Cabochard, but have remembered it's Good Friday, and the perfume goddesses decree that means SotD is Seville a l'Aube.

Back from Dublin
I'm exhausted 😩
Dh route marched us across the city 3 times!
I took a sample from commodity called milk. Rather nice.
I bought a book, and a dress for my friends wedding (and some chocolate...)
I now have mountains of laundry to do and a swollen knee 🙃

4160 Tuesdays Red Queen with added cherry and cognac from their customisation last year.

TakeYourHatOffBoy · 07/04/2023 18:49

SOTD Tauer's Reverie au Jardin. More lavender!

FestivelyScent · 07/04/2023 23:48

@Alltheevennumbers Bernard Chant is my favourite perfumer - Cinnabar, AE, Original Aramis, and Aramis JHL were among the fragrances that tempted me down the perfume rabbit hole. His fragrances had a very particular style, almost a signature smell, that I've not really seen replicated elsewhere, and, sadly, all the current versions of the above seem to differ from the originals due to reformulation.

SOTD for Good Friday is No5, for a day spent getting last minute Easter things. This does make for a cheerful spring-like perfume. 🌷🐣Easter Smile

OP posts:
alltheevennumbers · 08/04/2023 12:50

@FestivelyScent - I know what you mean about the reformulations. I have a few bottles of vintage Cabochard as the current formulation is but a shadow of its former self (think Turin and Sanchez remark that it smells like the moths have been at it?). It was a very important perfume to me as a young woman (worn rather against the tide of olfactory fashion). I found it by accident in a discount shop, and liked the mysterious smoke and the dark undertones and the attitude very much (plus it worked with my charity shop finds - 50s and 60s stuff was still turning up regularly then).

Had I known that it translated to stubborn or headstrong I would have liked it even more...

Everyone needs a leather chypre, but especially in your 20s.😀

Pigeon31 · 08/04/2023 13:06

SOTD: shay and blue dandelion fig - I find I'm wearing this quite a lot, I really like it as a greenish spring scent so def going to buy a bottle.

Happy Easter, everyone! Enjoy the sun!

Chevyimpala67 · 08/04/2023 13:32

Easter Saturday scent is avon attraction again
Loving this
Happy Easter folks 🐣

TakeYourHatOffBoy · 08/04/2023 18:37

SOTD has been Heeley Hippie Rose. Perfect for a day of planting, weeding, mulching and thinking about my other fragranced obsession - roses 😁

FestivelyScent · 08/04/2023 22:54

It's Easter Eve/Holy Saturday! 🐣 I've called today Easter Eve since I was small (Yes, I still say birthday eve, too), so was gratified to discover this morning that the CofE calls it the same thing.

@alltheevennumbers I've never smelled it, but fragrantica tells me Cabochard smells similar to original aramis, which is one of my summer favourites. I suspect we have similar tastes.

SOTD is Shalimar, for a day of quiet Easter prep. I've always liked the sense of watching and waiting and preparation that comes with today, the anticipation for tomorrow. It's a different feeling to Xmas eve. 🌷🐇Easter Smile

SotD #1 has been Seville a l'Aube again - beeswax, orange blossom, incense, lavender. I do love this - it's deep and comforting.

SotD#2, still on a old school leather chypre jag, is Pierre Cardin's Paradoxe. This is a soft floral warm ambery leather chypre. A couple of years ago you could pick it up for pennies and it is very good. To add to the list of Perfumers with small but impressive bodies of work, Raymond Chaillan made this, as well as Opium, Anais Anais, Givenchy III, and Monsieur Carven.

Easter Sunday sotd was avon attraction again
It's really lovely, but doesn't last long, sadly
I'm going to try the game flanker next time 😊
Had a lovely lamb lunch and a very calorie laden pudding 🍮

FestivelyScent · 10/04/2023 00:17

Happy Easter to all my wonderful fragrant friends!!! 🐣🌷 Easter Smile

Hope everyone is having a happy and relaxing Easter weekend so far. We have lilies in the house to celebrate, and the fragrance is glorious and just says churches at Easter.

Had a delicious lunch, and the obligatory chocolate, of course, and all in all a laid back day. 🍫🐇

SOTN is No5, for watching the new Agatha Christie, and munching chocolates. 🌷🐣🐇

Hope everyone has had a wonderful Easter Monday, too. Easter Smile

A quiet day here - it's nice up have a breather every so often - but a second Easter meal was managed out of plentiful leftovers.

SOTD is Ambre Orient. 🌷🐣🐇 Easter Smile
