Tuesdays 4160 - perfume

Following a recommendation on MN I ordered a sample box of seven Tuesdays 4160 perfumes. To be honest I have never before really disliked a perfume to the extent of wanting to wash away the smell but I felt like this with all seven samples. Really hoped to find a nice fresh new scent. Am I alone in not liking them? - Guess I must be because they seem popular.

No, you aren't.
I've wanted very badly to like them and tried loads. I love Ealing Green and I like London 1969. Everything else smells like a toddler has poured all her mum's scents into one bottle. Lots of people love them all, but they're too busy for me and most of them very much too sweet.

It's one of my favourite niche perfume houses. They're more hit than miss for me and I own a lot of their perfume, but I do like sweet and gourmand scents and they do a lot of those.

A friend did say I smelled like refreshers one day when wearing one of their scents!

The only ones I really disliked were lion cupboard and Kiss me quickly and another, I can't remember, which was like surgical spirit.

Gems for me include; silk lace and chocolate, mother nature's, city of silver, New York 55, die in the snow, and dancing with strangers (keep your friends close).

New York 55 and sexiest scent are two of my faves but they're both very sweet

There are around sixty so you may not like them all , I don't, but the ones I love, I'd never be without. I like all the rose centric ones best. Killer Rose, Raw Silk and Red Roses and Red Queen. If you want a fresh citrussy one try Meet Me On The Corner or The Orange Tree

They are all made by one perfumer, so similar in style, so you either love them or not. I have a few that really work for me (Red Queen, Mother Nature's Naughty Daughters,Over the Chocolate Shop), but they are a bit samey in a way, so I only have small bottles of them and it's enough.

I think you either like the DNA of a fragrance house or you don't.

I do like 4160 Tuesdays, it's one of my favourite niche houses, but I don't like everything I've tried. Some of them are all time favourites that I wouldn't be without though, like Amberama, Fluffy Lemon Top and Court of Ravens.

Oh and Sex Goddess! I love that one and get compliments on it. Also Tart's Knicker Drawer, which was love at first sniff. It's a retro style powdery amber and impossibly glamorous.

I think there is a 'note,' that runs through all the perfume that isn't for me. I was honestly surprised because I have never tried a scent that has literally turned my stomach (Paris). Many thanks for the replies - sorry Tuesdays! but you have lots of fans so don't need me.

I don't like Paris either. Luckily I only have a sample. Which seven samples did you get?

I've bought their JJB boxes, containing around 20 bottles, and only liked four or five.

Funnily enough I don't like Paris either. I like the style, but the peach note is too sweet for me.

I didn’t like any of the samples that came in my set either.
However, on recommendation I bought Shazam! Blind and love it. Wearing it now.

The peach is why I don't like Doe in the Snow.
I like it when I first put it on, then I start to feel like I'm 14 and it's 1982 and I've covered myself in Impulse.

@PAFMO haha, yes! Similar reaction here to Doe In The Snow. I don't like Lancome's Tresor either, again it's the sweet peach note.

I adore Mitsouko though - it's peachy notes aren't sweet at all.

Oh lord, Tresor is one of very few perfumes that give me a visceral ick. I can cope with most perfumes even if I wouldn't personally wear them, (though oud be gone) but Tresor is sooooo sweet and heavy.

I always find Doe in tgeSbow very lemon and line. Last time I wore it my son said I smelled like tip tops, which is fine by me!

Whoops, I called it Die in the Snow.
I think it's a nice refreshing light scent for summer, despite the name.

I didn't detect a peach in Paris. Will sniff it again. Though there's something that I don't like about it. Oak moss I think.

I really dislike everything I have tried from 4160 other than one scent - What I Did On My Holidays. I agree with pp that there is a same-y note to them all that I just hate. It’s a pity because I love the brand’s ethos!

Very true.
I don't do chanel or guerlain. Something in the diary just smells wrong to me
