Will the white trainers look still be in this spring/summer?

I don’t wear white chunky trainers as I don’t suit the dress and trainers look and am probably too old for it anyway. I did wear white Superga trainers with jeans/trousers the last couple of summers although I seem to remember they are seen as old-fashioned on here.

I was wondering what footwear was going to be in instead? Or any new 2023 fashion looks in general we can look forward to?

I liked the dress/white trainer combo as I could just get away with this at work but no way could I get away with colourful trainers.

With small kids and a train commute, white anything gets filthy and I was glad to wave goodbye to that trend last summer when people round here were wearing pinky beige/tan trainers (or white with a bit of colour, but that’s not practical either). I like the idea that next summer my burgundy tennis shoes will be in and fashion will have caught up with me!

lurchermummy · 18/01/2023 21:16

As someone who can't wear strappy sandals or ballet flats I'll be sticking with my dress and trainers and possibly a denim jacket and I don't give a shit

OriGanOver · 18/01/2023 21:19

No it's dark colour trainers now. White is out.

Lollypop701 · 18/01/2023 21:26

Good to know.. will pass my white airforce to dd who hasn’t got the message on white trainers and will feel like I’m being lovely to her (rather than off loading so I have a reason to buy a new trendy pair)

In any thread discussing whether an item of clothing is still fashionable, I count how many pages fill up before somebody volunteers that the item in question will be pried or prised off, or out of, a cold dead body part. It’s usually skinny jeans being prised out of cold dead hands so I appreciate the slight variation here.

Still wearing those too. And sporting a side part. 👍

I'd say it was a classic look so you'll always be able to 'get away with it'' I always have a pair of white supergas for slinging on for ease and comfort. However it's not especially on trend anymore and it might be a bit middle aged now. (Which is fine for me-I am middle aged!)
However I also like trainers so I have new balance (a sort of beige pair, and a more colourful pair) and a couple of pairs of bright air max.
DdS 15 and 17 have white airforces, dark vans, converse (the commes de Garçon cross over ones) and new balance (cream with a green 'N').

I honestly don't think you can describe white trainers as a classic look- surely there's an older generation that still roll their eyes a bit if you turn up for dinner in a nice dress with ... white trainers?! Which disqualifies it from classic (IMO).

I like flat sandals. It takes more effort (and potentially costly trial and error) to find a comfortable pair if you need some to replace say, trainers as opposed to heels, but much classier. If that's your thing.

I’ve got some white Stan Smiths and am not planning on stopping wearing them.

I've just bought some. My very self conscious about what's acceptable teen approved and made me borrow theirs the other day (which one why I bought some) to finish an outfit!

I bought myself some white trainers at 51 and combined with dresses-loved it. My partner said he didn't think he liked the look- this was before I bought them. Told him.i did🤣 will be wearing the combo until I get fed up. Don't give a stuff if they are in or not.

That’s my attitude 🥰

CharlotteSometimes1 · 19/01/2023 07:34

last summer the move was toward beige and peachy colours the New Balance ones are good, this Summer it’s the same plus more colours like the pair linked to up thread. I did occasionally were white trainers in the Summer, but I wouldn’t buy a new pair and probably won’t wear them this year.

however that’s on the basis that you care about what’s in, if not then wear what you like.

PeskyRooks · 19/01/2023 08:48

This summer I will mostly be wearing my purple crocs....
I'll get me coat.

Greatly · 19/01/2023 08:50

I wore dresses and colourful Bensimon laceless plimsolls last year and plan on continuing. No denim jackets here!

Greatly · 19/01/2023 08:52

I love my Stan Smiths with jeans and was going to buy a new pair but then I saw Matt Hancock wears them and that's put me right off.

lookss like it’s clumpy platform sandals

I do quite like the look but I can’t help but cringe about how sweaty those feet must get - especially in that blinding hot weather we got last year. What’s wrong with a fugly (but airy) Birkenstock? Too much frump?

My son who is very into fashion and currently at Uni asked for Birkenstocks for Christmas which I took as meaning they are either super cool already or he's starting a one man trend!

cravingtoblerone · 19/01/2023 08:59

White trainers will be around a bit longer in my house (not least because I just bought a pair!)

Thanks for this! I actually like a lot here, i would definitely buy the H and M dress and jigsaw denim skirt

TizerorFizz · 19/01/2023 09:08

Redonline.co.uk had 25 trainers listed in December. Some are patterned and some are white. Take your pick. Quite a few are quite quirky! They are not going out of fashion!

boat shoe thread

Mumsnet is a fickle place, and it’s amazing how opinions change in eight months. I started a thread on boat shoes in May of last year, and they got hounded. I got comments that thats what their Granny or Great Aunt will wear. Obviously I was ahead of the game (and now regret not buying them, off to look in the sales!).

Yes, I was thinking the same regarding ‘Classic look’.

NothingButSpace · 19/01/2023 09:24

According to the Vogue article linked there, it’s wedges, ballet pumps, black stompy boots, wavy heels, Mary Janes and bright coloured heels!

TizerorFizz · 19/01/2023 10:13

Not boat shoes then? For men yes. Lots to choose from. Look good with shorts, jeans or chinos. (Tods don’t make them for women - did they ever?) . They are usually worn by yachty types around Cowes or Cornwall. I would avoid in cities unless they are worn by fashionistas!

Ravageur · 19/01/2023 10:28

I just can't give up my birkies

ouch321 · 19/01/2023 10:33

Either ballet pumps or white plimsolls with summer trainers.
