Will the white trainers look still be in this spring/summer?

I don’t wear white chunky trainers as I don’t suit the dress and trainers look and am probably too old for it anyway. I did wear white Superga trainers with jeans/trousers the last couple of summers although I seem to remember they are seen as old-fashioned on here.

I was wondering what footwear was going to be in instead? Or any new 2023 fashion looks in general we can look forward to?

I hope there are more nice sandal styles this summer. It was a struggle last year.

I couldn’t believe how many people were wearing white trainers and dresses in 80 degree heat last summer! Sweaty!

I really hope the dress / white trainers/ denim jacket look is over as I'm not a fan

I literally hate it

MrsMorrisey · 19/01/2023 10:56

I'm in Aus and I'm loving my saltwater sandals. Have a google.

Grunge and heroin chick is what's coming in.

Along with lime green, saffron and combats.

White trainers are now middle aged. Dark trainers are fine.

White trainers are middle-aged? Good, because I’m middle-aged.

So if not white trainers, then what?

Sandals

Iamthewombat · 19/01/2023 11:32

I understand why someone would ask whether a particular garment or style is still in fashion. It’s something I also think about.

What I don’t understand is the irritation or, often, fury when somebody dares to say that X (skinny jeans, white trainers worn with dresses) is looking a bit old hat (pun intended). Proper anger!

It normally comes from posters who simultaneously state that they don’t care about fashion and just wear what suits them, or whatever. Which is odd.

LaFemmeDamnee · 19/01/2023 11:38

I like the idea that retro coloured trainers are coming back into fashion as I have lived in Adidas Gazelles more or less since 1997. I might buy a burgundy pair when I've worn out my coloured ones.

OriGanOver · 19/01/2023 13:30

@Iamthewombat I know right! It's so funny. If you don't care about what's in fashion that's great, but why come on a thread to tell people that. Why not start a thread for those who want to wear what they have been wearing for years and everyone there can go on and on about skinny jeans and white trainers 😂

I honestly don't think you can describe white trainers as a classic look- surely there's an older generation that still roll their eyes a bit if you turn up for dinner in a nice dress with ... white trainers?! Which disqualifies it from classic (IMO).

I like flat sandals. It takes more effort (and potentially costly trial and error) to find a comfortable pair if you need some to replace say, trainers as opposed to heels, but much classier. If that's your thing.

White trainers are classic.

White trainers with a summer dress and denim jacket is not. I think some people (ok me) actually made a point of saying that 😌. The trainers are classic but what you might want to wear with them will change at some point

Rayna37 · 19/01/2023 15:21

@BudgetBeatrice and I agree with you, up to a point. We didn't really wear them in the 90s or 2000s did we? I don't think they were much of a thing until Pheobe Philo in her Stan Smiths in 2011. My DM's generation and above didn't (and mostly still don't) wear trainers at all unless actually participating in sport.

A modern classic.

rifles through 90s wardrobe...

Iamthewombat · 20/01/2023 00:08

I’ve just bought pale grey suede Adidas Gazelles. Cannot wait to wear them (obviously not in current Mancunian snow). They make the trusty Stan Smiths look boring.

peachgreen · 20/01/2023 00:17

I can handle switching up my footwear but what jacket should I be wearing over dresses if not a denim one?!

primeoflife · 20/01/2023 06:54

@Iamthewombat I agree about fashion threads.

Go to any high street shop and there are so many pairs of skinny jeans still available to buy.

I like the dress and trainer look so will continue to wear it this year!!

PurpleParrotfish · 20/01/2023 07:44

I like the look of summer dresses and trainers on others but it’s not for me. If it’s hot enough that summer dresses with bare legs are comfortable then I want to wear sandals! I find shoes get constrictive and overheated in hot weather.

Bitbloweyoutthere · 24/02/2023 07:40

It's work I struggle with. Sandals are fine out of work, but we're not allowed open toe in work. I did wonder about a very slim white trainer, but not sure I'd get away with that.
I tend to go for either skater dresses or midi length shirt dress/wrap dress, so flat shoes all tend to make the outfit veer towards the frumpy.
I have ballet shoes, but a. They're bad for your feet and b. Look a bit twee.

LolaSmiles · 24/02/2023 07:46

I'm hoping the dress/midi skirt and comfy casual shoes look doesn't stop.
I wear mine with off white fabric plimsolls/converse, and wore that combination before the white trainers and floral dress became the mummy uniform of choice.

LolaSmiles · 24/02/2023 07:49

Probably not stylish enough for the MN style board, but I have a thrifted coloured cord cropped shacket from Lucy and Yak that is a nice change from my denim jacket.
The one I'm falling out of love with is my leather biker jacket. I worry it's starting to look a bit 'mum trying to look young' on me now, which is a shame because it's a nice jacket and I've had it a solid 15 years.

amberisola · 25/02/2023 13:49

So shocked by the hate for boat shoes! 😧I have two pairs and wear them all the time, they’re as comfy as trainers but make me feel slightly more put together. I wear them in mid seasons when it’s not warm enough for sandals. Granted I live abroad, and near the sea (I don’t spend any time on boats though!) and was inspired by all the v stylish women (and men) wearing them over here - they might look out of place back home in Manchester.

The white clumpy trainers and floaty dress combo looks terrible on me though, I never see anyone wearing that here and notice it’s become a ‘uniform’ in the UK. Maybe time for some more variety!

midsomermurderess · 25/02/2023 14:58

As an alternative to a denim jacket, what about something along these lines from Toast. It’s pricey, and the colour not to everyone’s taste, but this sort of thing.

Bonbon21 · 25/02/2023 15:02

They will be 'in' cos I will be wearing them!!!
😊

MistySkiesAreGone · 27/02/2023 08:55

I have some coloured adidas - purple, burgundy and green. They are from 2012! I'm going to crack them out. I think with multi coloured trainers, the rest of the outfit needs to be one or two neutrals.

My3cents1 · 24/03/2023 10:59

Birkenstock and clogs. Idc what others think of my footwear choices.
