Boat shoes
Saw these and really liked them. Thought they’d be a good alternative to the white trainer trend (which I’ve not totally got onboard with).
What do people think?

Will you be on a boat? If your answer is no, do not buy them. Actually, even if you will be on a boat, do not buy.

Oh my God. No. No. No. No. No.

My gran has thesev exact shoes, I forgive her because she's nearly eighty
SpeedofaSloth · 14/05/2022 15:36
I quite like them.
interferringma · 14/05/2022 15:39
Sorry it's a no.
I wore something similar in the 90s. Never again!
AllMyExesWearRolexes · 14/05/2022 15:40
I love boat shoes especially Timberlands, I get seasick on a wet pavement but I love the look.
Ignore the doom mongers, if you like them go for it!
ButtockUp · 14/05/2022 15:42
My 62 year old husband has an almost identical pair.
IBelieveInAThingCalledScience · 14/05/2022 15:46
If you travel to the continent, you'll notice that pretty much every single man owns a pair of those.
Growing up, I literally never met a single boy who didn't have one!
ProperVexed · 14/05/2022 15:54
Love them .....not much different than a loafer.
jimboandthejetset · 14/05/2022 15:57
I had some lovely red ones when I was a teen. But honestly now the only person I know who wears them does actually go sailing as a hobby.
Fizbosshoes · 14/05/2022 16:34
Everyone is BU for not pointing out the use of "onboard" on a thread about boat shoes!

Agree. By the same token, trainers are completely unacceptable other than for sporting activities, and even then, they're pretty awful.

I have boat shoes from Sketchers and absolutely love them. It really depends on when/ where you want to wear them.
These are mine:

Bobnotpop · 14/05/2022 16:45
You’d have to pay me a lot of money to wear those.
MrsGinaHarrison87 · 14/05/2022 16:50
They remind me of my great aunt. She's 83.
CeliaCanth · 14/05/2022 16:52
I like boat shoes in general (well, tan or navy ones) but I don’t like those colours. How about a plainer pair?
MinglingFlamingo · 14/05/2022 16:57
Yes!!! I have several pairs
They are good in the summer when it's kissing down with rain so not flip flops but it's warm enough for not socks and trainers.
I'm in Cornwall and deck shoes and chinos are also a bit of a uniform
mathanxiety · 14/05/2022 17:01
I have Sperry deck shoes which are styled slightly differently - more slouchy, less colourful, and very nice quality. I think the ones you've linked are too 'buttoned up' for casual wear but they're boat shoes so not formal.
There are nicer models out there.
NerrSnerr · 14/05/2022 17:08
If you like them wear them. People look best in clothes they like an feel comfortable in.
DorritLittle · 14/05/2022 17:09
Everyone has them in France. Possibly just the men though? They can pull them off better than me, anyway.
But I bought some white trainers and kind of hate myself for being such a sheep.
Myworhl · 14/05/2022 17:12
I was about to say I’m fed up of the sea of white trainers everywhere. Go for them, they’re cheery.
OldTinHat · 14/05/2022 17:12
My eyes, my eyes!!! And £69?!!!
No. Just no is all.
AiryFairy1 · 14/05/2022 17:23
Oh I quite like them! I had some navy Sebago ones (bought in a cruise ship port town) that I was pretty miffed when they were stolen!
They were more loafer-like though.
Flyinggeese1234 · 14/05/2022 17:54
Don’t do it OP. Too Alan Partridge.
ZaZathecat · 14/05/2022 17:56
They are nice. Boat shoes just don't happen to be in fashion.
