@CureForLove , that dress is nice and i particularly like the back pocket. What's the fabric like?

Snowyowl78 · 13/02/2023 18:06

@lordloveadog bad luck about your lotus leaf placement. I reckon if you asked they’d send you another one with hopefully a different placement?

I know what you mean about those dresses not lending themselves to tights. I also think they work a lot better without tights, which means they have to be summer dresses really. The models all have them on with socks but I am not 100% convinced this will be a good look on me! I want to try the gathered river one but it might be better for me to wait for the warmer weather if they are going to work without tights, and so I should prob wait for a sale!

Half way tomorrow for all us on a dry Toast month!!

Countmeout · 13/02/2023 18:47

Just what we were saying about pattern placement @lordloveadog . I dot know why they don’t pay more attention to where the pattern ends up on big patterned items.

Its a pity the sale is over , there might have been a few summery items that would have suited.

@dudsdudsville. The dress is a nice stiffish denim like fabric. Not doft and floppy (which I don't like. Has a bit of structure!

dudsville · 14/02/2023 07:25

That sounds perfect! It's definitely in my radar but i imagine it will be too popular to make it to a sale .

lordloveadog · 15/02/2023 13:27

I'm glad my modesty leaf was enjoyed!

On more careful examination, the gathered dress in XL actually turns out to be rather bigger - wider - than last year's version in L. It's going back because it's too big on me. I'm a generous high street 18, so that's really quite big and larger than Toast dresses usually are in XL/18.

I thought about ordering an L, but decided that the lines on the pattern don't work for me with this shape. The dress shape is droopy over curves in a flattering way which worked well with the leaf print. But on this the lines make a sort of graph of the draped curves, which isn't good. 'The lines are just too liney, mummy', says my focus group. Also DH didn't like the blue in the pattern, though on that he's wrong as usual. At these prices, things do have to be just right.

If I have a conclusion there, it's that you probably want to size down when ordering this dress (unless at the edge of range of a size) and that the lines may not appeal to you unless you want boobs emphasized.

AFingerofFudge · 15/02/2023 14:14

I am on my lunch break at work at the moment, but waiting for me at home is a Toast parcel. So much for dry Toast February.

I'm having quite a bit of a downer about my self image/perimenopause/weight gain that I have ordered 2 things in the hope I feel reasonably ok in them - the crinkle check dress and the red/brown gingham trousers.

I have a pair of Toast jeans that this time last year I was wearing with a belt. Now I can just about do the button up but feel uncomfortable in, it's really depressing!

Anyhow, I'll stop moaning and report back later Smile

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 15/02/2023 14:36

@AFingerofFudge I realised this morning that I have several pairs of (non-toast) trousers that I avoid wearing as they are no longer comfortable across my stomach. In panic I unpacked some of my summer trousers and was really glad to find the Alix and Moss trousers I bought last year still fit. The problem for me is not the actual waistband but the amount of fabric across my stomach, anything close fitting there is no longer comfortable. I exercise and eat (reasonably) healthily so I'm not sure how I can improve my shape.

Good luck with your new purchases Smile , looking forward to you reporting back.

Countmeout · 15/02/2023 15:23

@AFingerofFudge I’ll look forward to hearing how you find the gingham trousers . Would love to see a picture to gauge just how wide they are.

@Stoic123 but the prices Shock . The renewed sketched leaf dress is over 2½ times what I paid for mine in the sale.

Stoic123 · 15/02/2023 17:09

@Theteapotsbrokenspout - yes, I noticed the sketched leaf dress price and was surprised by that one.

Blossomtoes · 15/02/2023 17:28

Those prices are bonkers for essentially second hand clothes.

Stoic123 · 15/02/2023 17:34

@Blossomtoes - not 'secondhand', 'customised' 😉

Blossomtoes · 15/02/2023 17:43

Oh, I see. But still, those prices! 😱

dudsville · 15/02/2023 18:23

I don't know what to make of those renewed items. I respect that they're not binning them, it's interesting letting us know how long each fix took, but those prices? I'm not at all tempted. Though I do alwys get excited at seeing some back catalogue stuff!

Snowyowl78 · 15/02/2023 19:17

I think it’s mad that they have inflated the prices, when you can get a repair for free in a shop.

I got a sample from EBay today, but I’m not sure it suits me, and it’s a bit tight around the back/arms. I am going to sell it on, it’s in the Plum Check fabric of the recent one that’s in the sale but in a different style. Pic if anyone is interested! I paid £50, size 10-12

On we go Toasties heading for Spring???
TempleofZoom · 15/02/2023 19:29

£160 for a repaired jumper !
Have they lost the plot ?

Countmeout · 15/02/2023 19:31

Anyhoo there’s a new styling video on 7th March I see, do we think that’s another drop of clothes?

OP posts:
dudsville · 15/02/2023 19:53

I've just spent some time going down a rabbit hole with each of those renewed items. Given that i bought a pristine bud check for £80 this just sits awkwardly with me. I like that they're promoting the work of their staff but at those prices?

JulesJules · 15/02/2023 19:59

Oh that's really interesting about the Bryn dress, @lordlordloveadog - I have been looking at it, thinking about my DD1's graduation later this year. (Shame that John Lewis don't stock Toast anymore, it was great to able to go in and see clothes in real life) Nearly £200 is an awful lot for me though.

Countmeout · 15/02/2023 20:00

Is it because they have to provide a certain amount or work for the repair specialists? Surely there can’t be a constant stream of repairs for customers to employ them ?

OP posts:
faustina · 15/02/2023 20:01

@Stoic123 - they might be customised, but they're also 'preloved' and repaired - it says those alix trousers had to be repaired. I like the customisation but the prices are 'we saw you coming' territory

TempleofZoom · 15/02/2023 20:18

Exactly.
Do we think these are returns-seconds that have been repaired?
I'm a bit taken aback at their cheek if that's the case.

Ho humming about the loop back set.
Didn't realise the edges were raw, has put me off somewhat.

Stoic123 · 15/02/2023 20:19

@faustina - my comment was tongue-in-cheek. I promise.

It goes with the mushrooms and carrying planks of wood in a £300 dress. Extra premium to be paid for shabby chic and rusticity!

It is extra naughty not to at least reflect the lastest sale price.
