@Stravaig we don’t just have to wear our mushrooms any more, Toast is now giving us advice on how to cook with them!

@SmaugMum 🙈

The terracotta cord skirt is going back. In low lighting it's gorgeous, and it's a great fit and shape for me, easy to style, it's a nice weighty cord and i think it's a great bargain at £65. But in bright light it's just very "LOOK AT ME!!!!" and I just don't think I'll choose it over my other skirts.

Laska2Meryls · 29/01/2023 12:59

So here is my new 'throw' made out of the two fairisle scarves.. I am pretty pleased with it , so far, but as you can see the seam is fairly pronounced.. Tomorrow I shall venture into a wool shop and buy some balls of 4ply wool in cream orange and blue ( maybe green also if I can find something which goes) and then I plan to sew some cross stitch or herringbone over the join and possibly blanket stitch on the side edges ...

This will probably take me some time, but I will take it on our van holiday coming up and it can be a useful blanket also whilst I am doing it .. We have a 2 night trip on Brittany ferries going out to Spain so will be something to do ..

@Laska2Meryls that's fabulous and your idea to edge the seams and join would really look fab! I love it. Can't wait to see it when you've embellished.

My current baby project is knitting a bandana like the Margaret Howell ones and those from the website @faustina shared. Simple knit but not quite feeling like a large project at the moment.

Countmeout · 29/01/2023 13:07

That looks wonderful @Laska2Meryls . I loved that scarf but went with nothing in my wardrobe.

@Laska2Meryls - that looks so pretty with the blue sofa

@Noeggsontoast - what a brilliant idea! I would be such a simple thing to knit, but at the same time, would have a big impact when it's done. What colour are you going to use?

Stravaig · 29/01/2023 13:17

@Laska2Meryls Gorgeous! I love your idea to embellish the seam. It's a craft tradition with a long history - many hand looms only produce a narrow width, which are then pieced together. I've had a Bedouin rug and a Guatemalan bedspread which were both made this way. They're beautiful items, and all the more durable for having the fabric stabilised by the joins.

Laska2Meryls · 29/01/2023 14:07

Thanks, tbh I think that its too thick for a scarf anyway and not really drapey enough, but for a blanket , fine..
@Stravaig , thats interesting, I did wonder that about the loom width which is why I thought that it could work , of course this is being machine loom knit , I suppose they could make it wider though. Anyway it feels like a good project and in Toast spirit...

Noeggsontoast · 29/01/2023 14:17

@faustina it's just left over wool I've got and it's a mix of jewel tones,. TBH it's too heavy a yarn, but I'll see how it turns out. I don't have any real fine yarn at the mo. I really want to knit a mid blue one in cashmere to go with this fair isle tam and gloves I have from Brora.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 29/01/2023 14:30

That looks great @Laska2Meryls , what a clever idea. Looking forward to seeing it with all the planned embellishments.

MiracleToast · 29/01/2023 17:16

Wow @Laska2Meryls inspired idea!

dudsville · 29/01/2023 18:04

That's wonderful @Laska2Meryls !!! Very much looking forward to the stiches. And very interesting @Stravaig !

mizu · 29/01/2023 18:58

@Laska2Meryls LOVE the 'throw' Smile

lordloveadog · 29/01/2023 19:12

Love it Laska!

Also enjoying the mushrooms

Stoic123 · 29/01/2023 20:16

@Laska2Meryls - very Toast! Please post a picture of the finished article (not that it needs anything more).

Bideshi · 29/01/2023 20:24

Bit of an intermittent lurker on here. Just to say that I bought (among other things) the terracotta skirt and I love it. Which is all the more odd because I seldom wear colours, let alone bright ones. I've got a speckled donegal brown fair isle yoke cardigan (a Harley) that I bought it to go with. The weather's been so grey and monotone here this winter (sw Scotland) that I had a moment of madness.

dudsville · 30/01/2023 07:02

Heck @Bideshi , your post has made me reconsider that skirt!

Saurus72 · 30/01/2023 12:57

Well, my last-gasp sale purchases arrived and the white t-shirt that I thought would be a no brainer is going straight back - the white is horrible and a bit yellow, looks really old and makes me depressed just looking at it.

I also ordered 2 pairs of pull on trousers thinking they wouldn’t work. The khaki pair is lovely but just too huge and clown-like but the black linen/cotton are keepers. Perfect for wfh most of the year I think. So all around a good but unexpected outcome.

Snowyowl78 · 30/01/2023 16:31

@Saurus72 i got a pair of black cotton linen trousers too at the last moment on a whim! And they’re really nice- the ‘Brushed Cotton Linen Trousers | Off Black’ are they the same? I ended up ordering a L as that’s all they had left but I quite like the fit, slouchy and comfortable!

AmethystMoonShine · 30/01/2023 16:45

I've just sent my last couple of orders back today too. I sent back both the orange and green tie neck twill dresses. They were so creased that I decided I'd look like I was wearing a dishrag after about an hour - I seem be able to crease most things without effort sadly.

Then also the cornflower diamond block print dress, the fabric was pretty but very thin and quite shapeless on me - a gust of wind and I think I'd have taken off. A shame as I'd hoped it might be a holiday dress.

I also gave myself a talking too as it was still £85 and that really is too much for a thin cotton dress...I'm going to start being more careful as I am sure I'm getting conditioned to TOAST's high prices and so the sale seems such a bargain. I developed a real TOAST habit during lockdown and now rarely go out to shops (living rurally doesn't help) and so think I'm not aware of what else might be out there...I need to broaden my horizons.

My most successful TOAST purchases (after much analysis) are knitwear, long sleeve tops (various - love the boat neck and francis tees) and their woollen base layer long sleeve tops.

dudsville · 30/01/2023 17:15

I'm surprised, that blue dress didn't look so thin online @AmethystMoonShine , what a shame, but I agree with your reasoning, and I also think I've acclimatised unhelpfully to toast prices, or sale ones anyway! I've just added up my total spend starting Jan 1st and gasping at how quickly it jumped from nothing much to very much something in the space of a couple of weeks.

Royal Mail delivered the last of my packages today too. He said "My van knows where to go now!", and I couldn't help but kind of laugh along but try to explain, "they only do their sales on line, but this is the last of it, see you next sale!" He then actually asked about Toast and we spoke about their insane prices.

I recieved the gingham linen dress today. It was only 1 size larger than I would have ordered, but I would need to go down more than two more, which is serious reconstruction, and even then I think it would still be very underwhelming, so I've saved myself the task of taking it in and am sending it back. My only hesitation was the fabric was very nice. I still need to make a decision about the orange skirt. After the post above I googled outfits that centre around orange skirts, and I've reconvinced mysel that it's just a version of brown. £65 isn't going make or brake me but I hate to waste cash. Going to try to wear it tomorrow. If I can get out of the house in it then it's decided.

I had a thoroughly irritating day today so just popped on the yellow painted falls pjs with the botanical block print gown and poured a medinal glass of wine.

Snowyowl78 · 30/01/2023 17:30

@AmethystMoonShine if the cornflower dress is the same fabric as the trousers in the same print then it’s super thin isn’t it! I have the trousers in a ‘maybe’ bag in the wardrobe.

Saurus72 · 30/01/2023 17:37

@Snowyowl78 Yes I bought the same ones - they’re great aren’t they?! And yes, a good oversized unlike the khaki ones which were like clown trousers…

@AmethystMoonShine I know exactly what you mean about broadening your horizons. I like Cos and Sezane a lot too - Cos dresses are usually well under £100 non Sale prices. I need to not get conditioned into paying £200 for a Toast dress without at least knowing what else is out there, it’s insanity. I nearly bought a (beeyootiful) Toast scarf for £140 and then I was describing it to my mum and she looked horrified when I told her the price. It made me think. I ended up buying a lovely one from White Company for £40 which I absolutely love. The prices are insane but yes, I think we’ve got Stockholm Syndrome…

Laska2Meryls · 30/01/2023 17:49

I had nothing arrive and there nothing on order ! It feels a bit odd 🙄
Shopped the wardrobe today , all Toast except underwear and socks.. (and Finisterre Eyre cardigan, I popped on to go out to the campervan a couple of times.) So wore Toast
Blue striped boat neck top from probably AW21, Charcoal Bamboo vest , from 2020 maybe? Storm Gabis and Rust wool slide slippers ( probably 2021 also)

Pretty good..
