That's so nice, isn't it @neveradullmoment99 !!! Clothes should always feel this way!

Countmeout · 28/01/2023 11:20

So my Fir check sale dress has arrived. The quality is so good.
Reviews (read after I ordered 😳) said the material is heavy - certainly heavier than the alder . Gaping armholes - these don’t bother me but I think the insertion of a small triangle of material would fix it easily. Length. I’m only 5’4” and it’s a length I love about 4/5 inches above my ankle bone. The neckline- I always fold these necklines in to make a V . So overall I’m very happy with it. Much more fitted on the waist than the alder which tbh has no waist . I probably need to ditch the cake though very slight gape at button solved by a pin this morning. Looks lovely with a denim jacket.

Funny how we’re all different @dudsville I love a lot of this season’s collection.

Great to hear you love everything @neveradullmoment99 .

Final sale items arrived this morning the chalk boy tee and the Navy Hampton knit top. Both basics but will wear a lot. Very pleased as also got a FairIsle so successful sale in the end (minus all things sent back eek!)

Snowyowl78 · 28/01/2023 12:47

@applecatchers36 on that Hamptons top, just a warning to hand wash it in cold water. I hand washed mine but I feel like it’s shrank a little bit, maybe my water was too hot.

Stoic123 · 28/01/2023 13:07

@Snowyowl78 - ooh - thank you for warning. Will make sure use a cold wash.

I'm pleased with this sale's results but think that's because I've been a bit more ruthless about returns than in the past. Everything kept has either been special and joyful (e.g. Kaftan Dress) or a good quality version of a useful day-to-day item (loopback trousers, heavy cotton top, pair of Alix's etc).

I've learnt not to get too excited by the beautiful cupro and viscose dresses as I don't end up wearing them enough. I've probably reached peak cord now too.

I also struugled to make the conker jersey shirt work too @Theteapotsbrokenspout - shame, it would have been a nice wardrobe addition.

Blossomtoes · 28/01/2023 13:50

My blue striped tie neck shirt arrived this morning. It’s very nice, perfect for cooler summer days or under a cardigan. £52 reduced from £135! I wouldn’t have bought it full price. The only thing I want in the new collection is the indigo linen balloon trousers which I’ll be leaping on when they’re reduced.

applecatchers36 · 28/01/2023 14:31

Thanks Snowyowl78 for advice will be careful with it.. thinking it will be nice with ecru or white jeans in summer 🤞

I am vicariously exhausted! I languish on a green velvet fainting couch, fanning myself in a desultory fashion, the other hand limply trailing a cigarette holder in lieu of a pocket mushroom. I am wearing a nondescript robe, waiting for the thread imagination to dress me ...

@Stravaig was that by any chance an, ahem, mushroom with magical properties? 😅

dudsville · 28/01/2023 16:21

That sounds perfect @Stravaig !

Stravaig · 28/01/2023 16:29

@SmaugMum 🤣

@dudsville Relying on your creative alterations!

Stoic123 · 28/01/2023 16:51

@SmaugMum 😂

@Stravaig - it's definitely time for some smelling salts (or stiff gin/strong tea as you prefer).

Wearing the heavy cotton top in Olive today- quite unusual material I think. Think it will soften over time and become even better. Not seen many mentions on here. @Laska2Meryls - think you picked this up in blue?

ilovecherries · 28/01/2023 17:00

I’m wearing a pair of flat fronted denim trousers today (Annie maybe but via eBay so not sure). Seasalt red and grey sailor tee and a lovely silver grey Toast alpaca/cotton waistcoat which I am embarrassed to say I found in a (sealed) Toast bag at the back of my wardrobe. I think from the summer sale. It has reinforced to me that I need to continue not buying and carry on shopping my damn wardrobe more!

Laska2Meryls · 28/01/2023 17:21

@Stoic123 , yes I bought the blue ( didn't see the olive, probably a good thing!!) It only arrived yesterday but I wore it all day . Really like it but yes its a little stiff atm , I think that it will soften up nicely though..
My second fairisle knitted scarf arrived today and I have spent the afternoon stitching it to my first one to make a larger snuggle wrap for the sofa ( as that's what I was using the first one for) .I am pretty pleased with how it works ( too dark for a photo atm) ill show you how it looks tomorrow.. I think that I will also get some orange and blue wool to do some cross or herringbone stitches on the seam and edges to tie it all in more .. I suppose its a bit mad as expensive for two scarves even in the sale... but I am thinking that Toast would approve as its ' visible'stitches and surely almost as good as putting on a mushroom pocket!

dudsville · 28/01/2023 17:26

@ilovecherries 😁that made me laugh because although I haven't done that i was surprised once to find some trouses, washed and ironed, that is never worn. It was a winter sale purchase and they were summer.

@Stravaig I may be doing some alterations tomorrow, but they're unexciting!

Today i wore brown and wore the orange tweed from last winter's sale - the weird shoulder seams have settled, but didn't get apic with the coat.

On we go Toasties heading for Spring???
dudsville · 28/01/2023 17:28

I really look first to seeing what you do with that project @Laska2Meryls , it sounds wonderful!

dudsville · 28/01/2023 20:55

I've only ever bought cotton and wool things from toast @escapingthecity , so i can't give an opinion, but it's certainly a pretty dress with interesting shaping.

I just popped on to say how gorgeous the painted falls pyjamas are in sunflower. The colour is harsh on me but i can happily put up with that for pjs!

dudsville · 28/01/2023 21:12

Also, i took 6 packages to the po today but went to a bigger town nearby rather then my local small village po where they know me. Of the 4 possible tills, only 1 was open and there was a long snaking and silent queue. I was so embarrassed, but thankfully the young man behind the till was super efficient and I reckon my transaction was done in under 1.5 minutes!

I'd got confused in all the flurry of things coming and going, I've actually got 3 more packages to come , two of which are 2 sizes of that linen dress. I'm hoping that as it's about 4 ish years old that it's loose fit isn't as loose as we'd expect today. And I had ordered a smaller size of the firewood, or "salmon in a dim light" cords, and decided to return the larger ones for these.

Stoic123 · 28/01/2023 21:46

@escapingthecity - I think it's lovely and noticed it straight away. I plan to try it on when I go past a shop.

I find these type of dresses from Toast very flattering but worry about how much use I will get from them. I have the Mila Meadow Print Dress sitting in my wardrobe for an occasion that has not yet come (I do still love it so won't sell).

dudsville · 28/01/2023 22:25

(Gasp!) @Stoic123 you need to book a pub lunch and be the best dressed there. I remember that dress, stunning print, let it see the sun!

The Mila Meadow dress is my most favourite - and most complimented - ever. I love it so much, I bought a second.

Stoic123 · 28/01/2023 23:01

@dudsville & @SmaugMum - ha! Thanks for the nudges.

Snowyowl78 · 29/01/2023 07:47

@escapingthecity @Stoic123 I want that dress too but I’m trying really really hard to hold out for the sale for it. I already have 3 ‘easy’ dresses which are a similar shape which I hardly wear. I am trying to wear dresses with socks and boots to dress them down and layer them with a tshirt to make them less showy, wearing them on a normal Saturday night instead of keeping them for some wedding/party that I’ll never go to. With this one too as it’s a bit shorter I think it will be less dressy and more wearable.

I predict a sale in March!

Yes, I have several like this already too! I have two of their denim work dresses in slightly different styles and I really have to resist buying another, however nice or slightly different the collar 😂
