'Money No Object' shampoo+cond for hair that gets greasy after 1 day?

DottyGrey · 08/01/2023 14:16

Money no object meaning I'm happy to pay more for something that works, I'm not a millionaire 😀

My hair will wash and style well, it's heavy and seems to look greasy on the second day after a full day of freshly washed.

I use L'Oréal Fibrology as it definitely helps my hair to be thicker but I've used more expensive shampoos just haven't particularly rated them.

I do use dry shampoo for 2nd/3rd days sometimea but could never go longer and try to avoid it due to potential overuse issues.

Any suggestions for a shampoo that will fight grease as well as help the hair stay lightweight but keep thickens and volume?

I feel I may aswell be asking for a Unicorn...!

I like this, Superdrug used to do it and it’s available elsewhere too. It makes my usually fine, flat hair have a bit of volume.

Don’t wash your hair every day. The more you wash it, the more washing it needs. (I’m fully prepared to have MNers refute this, but over-washing my hair made it very greasy.)

LivingDeadGirlUK · 08/01/2023 15:18

I've tried the not washing as much and have had to accept the problem is that my hair is so fine and sparse that even a little oil from a nights sleep makes it look greasy.

I've had some success with faith in nature rosmary shampoo and no conditioner. Instead of conditioner i use the aveda leave in conditioner after I've part dryed it.

I had very greasy hair when I had a hormone imbalance (due to contraceptives) - I would wash it and it would still feel sticky afterwards. My hairdresser recommended a shampoo for me that made a huge difference. Annoyingly I can't remember what it was called, but it smelled very strongly of lemons. You could try asking a hair salon if they have a shampoo they'd recommend? It was much better than anything I could buy in the supermarket/off the shelf and made my hair lightweight and non greasy which was such a relief at the time!

I have similar hair and about a year ago finally settled on olaplex shampoo followed by Charles worthington leave in conditioner (no rinse out conditioner). The shampoo leaves my hair soft but not flat/limp. Sometimes it can be left for two days without washing. I didn’t like the olaplex conditioner and find the leave in conditioner plenty, though I do use olaplex no3 about once a week overnight. The olaplex shampoo seems expensive but you only need a very tiny amount so it lasts ages.

When I tried Fibrology it made my hair tacky and greasy after repeated use so I think it’ll just be that building up in in your hair. It is the best thickening shampoo but should only be used once a week for some va va voom.

I’ve tried most of the well-known brands and been quite pleased however in the last few weeks I’ve used Aldi’s Bonded shampoo and Bonded conditioner - wow! Apparently there’s also a pre-shampoo which wasn’t available in store at the time. I only apply the conditioner to the ends of my hair, not the roots.

MavisMcMinty · 08/01/2023 18:56

Indeed. “Shampoo the scalp, condition the ends.” As you rinse the shampoo from your scalp, enough of it will run down through the rest of the hair. And if you shampoo every day, your hair isn’t going to be dirty anyway.

scottishnames · 08/01/2023 19:41

I agree with previous posters- don't wash your hair every day. It needs the natural oils produced by your scalp glands to protect it and keep it in good condition. Shampooing just strips these away and can leave the hair lacking in natural strength and bounce. Brushing dry hair helps spread the natural oils along the hair. (In Victorian times, the rule for long hair was 100 brush-strokes, night and morning.)

Why use conditioner if you feel your hair is oily? Conditioner is a very 'recent' product. For centuries, women have had lovely hair without it. Many conditioners contain silicones - 'slippery' chemicals also found in furniture polish.

I wash my hair every five or six days. It stays bouncy and nice-smelling for that time, though I live in the country in a very clean air environment so it doesn't get dirty with (eg) traffic fumes. . I use a goats' milk shampoo bar, but there are many other options. Here is just one example of the sort of thing I mean . I have NO links with the company. Several other similar products are available www.thelittlegoatsoapcompany.co.uk/product/simply-unscented-goat-milk-shampoo/?gclid=CjwKCAiA8OmdBhAgEiwAShr402OMGYtwbqdcvRxn9yKFyP_rqZYnOK1sxeisWkVfQBQeZoskSNAMxRoCvt4QAvD_BwE

I let my hair dry naturally for most of the time, or, if I'm in a hurry give it a quick blast from a hair dryer or even a fan heater. I don't use straighteners or rollers. I prefer my hair to look natural.

Any silicone/dimethicone free shampoo and conditioner.

silicones coat the hair and leave it dull and greasy after a day or so

choose a clarifying/detox shampoo. Garner ultimate blends have lots of silicone free options

PawPrintsInMyPansies · 08/01/2023 19:57

I really like Ouai shampoo and conditioner, the Fine Hair one/

rookiemere · 08/01/2023 20:01

I found my hair was getting greasy after one day down to too much of something in the shampoo or conditioner I was using.
I've now switched to Aldi own brand which seems to have rectified the issue.
I'd try a wash with washing up liquid- yes honestly- works wonders for me when it's really lank.

thunderstruckk · 08/01/2023 20:03

I love the olaplex clarifying shampoo - really strips all of the extra product build up out of my hair so I can get extra time between washes. I also wash my hair with a scalp massager, it has weirdly made a huge difference and I can sometimes go three days between washes now. Also I occasionally use a little bit of baby power in my hair before putting my sleep bonnet on and it absorbs all of the oil and works its way in overnight so no residue.

Me too - totally worth the money IME.

Zeeza · 08/01/2023 20:08

Living proof went the best for me. I can get two days looking fresh with my fine hair. A lot more body too.

I cheer myself up that the greasiness is what means i have no wrinkle on my face.

UnbeatenMum · 08/01/2023 20:08

I don't have a shampoo recommendation but I do find shampooing twice makes a difference for me, plus only conditioning the ends.

cptartapp · 08/01/2023 20:09

OGX charcoal range is great. Got it in Superdrug on offer.

Kerastase nutri-fortifiant

Emily19944 · 08/01/2023 20:35

I use aldi’s own and wash every day otherwise my head feels itchy - i’m also a children’s nurse and dread to think of what germs i’d have lurking in there if I didn’t wash it every day!

HashBrownandBeans · 08/01/2023 20:39

I do a coconut oil treatment overnight, sounds like it will make it more greasy, but as long as you triple wash it out, it will stop it getting so greasy for a week afterwards. It stops the overproduction of grease

Blondeissimo · 08/01/2023 20:40

Kerastase is the one for me. I wash my hair every day and it's in fab condition since I started using this. Highly recommend.

Mummapenguin20 · 08/01/2023 20:42
