'Money No Object' shampoo+cond for hair that gets greasy after 1 day?

DottyGrey · 08/01/2023 14:16

Money no object meaning I'm happy to pay more for something that works, I'm not a millionaire 😀

My hair will wash and style well, it's heavy and seems to look greasy on the second day after a full day of freshly washed.

I use L'Oréal Fibrology as it definitely helps my hair to be thicker but I've used more expensive shampoos just haven't particularly rated them.

I do use dry shampoo for 2nd/3rd days sometimea but could never go longer and try to avoid it due to potential overuse issues.

Any suggestions for a shampoo that will fight grease as well as help the hair stay lightweight but keep thickens and volume?

I feel I may aswell be asking for a Unicorn...!

I have similar hair and about a year ago finally settled on olaplex shampoo followed by Charles worthington leave in conditioner (no rinse out conditioner). The shampoo leaves my hair soft but not flat/limp. Sometimes it can be left for two days without washing. I didn’t like the olaplex conditioner and find the leave in conditioner plenty, though I do use olaplex no3 about once a week overnight. The olaplex shampoo seems expensive but you only need a very tiny amount so it lasts ages.

Be very careful with olaplex 3. I’m currently in bed with olaplex on my hair and I’ll keep it on overnight but it really can ruin your hair. It will overload it with protein and then it will go brittle and start snapping like nobody’s business.

Once every three weeks is the most frequently you should use it according to my hairdresser.

Is it your hair or your scalp which gets greasy? For me it’s scalp. I really rate Philip Kingsley itchy flaky scalp shampoo and have used it religiously for about 13 years. My holy grail for greasy days is one wash with that and one wash with bumble and bumble Sunday shampoo (a clarifyshampoo)

after that a light conditioner only from the ears down - I’ve found the oribe leave in conditioner actually really good - light but effective.

and if you have money to burn then maybe try one of the posh scalp scrubs too? Oaui have one and some other brands too.

Don’t wash your hair every day. The more you wash it, the more washing it needs. (I’m fully prepared to have MNers refute this, but over-washing my hair made it very greasy.)

As a greasy haired since teens person its just not possible not to wash it if you want to go out in public even though it is a vicious cycle.

I could of wrote this a year ago then I found bed head it is fantastic for my hair

Which one?

FreeButtonBee · 08/01/2023 22:40

Oh and I’ve gone from washing every other day to every 5 days (yes really) with this combo- and that’s not even really using dry shampoo unless I’m going somewhere fancy

Exdpisatwat · 08/01/2023 22:41

Faith in Nature. Its the only one that doesn't leave a coating on the hair. I've finally moved to every other day wash after 20 years of washing my hair every day.

Crosswithlifeatm · 08/01/2023 22:49

You need something bog standard to clear your hair of a build up of 'product'.
Then try to go 2-3days even if it means dry shampoo, leave it if you aren't working.
Leave in or spay conditioner that you comb through help.
It takes a while but less washing ,difficult at the start is the only thing that will work.
Your alternative is very short hair that you can rince in the shower.

You need a detox/clarifying shampoo, to do a deep clean of scalp and remove product build up, I use once a month and makes a huge difference x

Coffeepot72 · 08/01/2023 23:01

I would just love not to need to shampoo every day!

Crosswithlifeatm · 08/01/2023 23:04

How long is your hair?

headache · 08/01/2023 23:27

I have greasy hair too and have to wash it every second day, I washed it this morning and by tomorrow dinner time it will be greasy and scratchy and needing washed again, it’s long and very very thick. If I were to leave it to dry naturally it’s still not dry after 6 hours, hair drying takes over 30mins and it’s boring. Usually it’s a rough dry thrown up and sorted in the morning.

DD2s is even worse she should wash it everyday but she also chooses every second day. Her hair rarely looks clean. Could be her age she’s 17 and has greasy skin too

TheTeenageYears · 09/01/2023 00:31

Like lots of issues, greasy hair can be hormonal. One of a few symptoms DD had before being diagnosed with PCOS at 15 was extremely greasy hair. It was the first symptom to disappear after she started taking Dianette.

purplecorkheart · 09/01/2023 00:39

I use Joicio for fine hair and double shampoo. It has made a big difference from needing to wash daily to three days

queencookiemonster · 09/01/2023 01:09

Scrap shampoo altogether. I chanced on As I Am cowash while trying to get my hair to do waves instead of kinks. Failed on the waves front but I no longer have to wash everyday. I can go about 5/6 days now although will rinse it in the shower every couple of days. Scalp scrubber helps too.

redredwineub40 · 09/01/2023 01:27

Ouai fine hair and Philip Kingsley body building both good.

PieonaBarm · 09/01/2023 02:37

Body Shop Tea Tree range. The scrub is brilliant. I'm of a particular age now where hormones are starting to cause me issues and my once never greasy hair can be terrible someday. I also use vosene once or twice a week too, it removes any product build up brilliantly.

hartytype · 09/01/2023 08:00

Honesty, I've tried every shampoo there is available. Money no object.
I wash my hair daily as I do a job that requires it.

I have found that herbal essences works for me. Other richer products tend to leave a build up on my hair. HE is very light and suitable for daily use

Silverstreaks · 09/01/2023 08:19

It sounds like silicone build up.
Silicone comes in many guises and can be found in shampoo, conditioner and styling products.

I'd start with a Cleansing Shampoo then find a low/no SLS shampoo and silicone free conditioner or try a vinegar rinse instead of shampoo.

Your hair will definitely feel different to start but stick with it and it will come right.

I can have real issues with my scalp. It seems to flare and I end up with a really greasy patch. I use Nizoral - but only when it happens. The only shampoo I can consistently use is head and shoulders.

HeidiWhole · 09/01/2023 09:10

I have the same problem. Herbal Essences do a detox type shampoo, it's clear and in a transparent bottle. Great for the squeakiness of very clean hair. I tend to shampoo with this first then use a richer one like Tresemme to replace some of the moisture. Using the clarifying one only really dried my hair out. I also use tons of very cheap conditioner on the ends.
I can wash every three days and use just a touch of dry shampoo in between.

Spellegrin · 09/01/2023 10:07

I have fine hair that I have "had to wash" every day since I was about 12. Looked greasy and like a scarecrow after sleeping on it.
For the past couple of years (I'm in my early 50s) I wash with shampoo (one shampoo) one day, second day I wash with water only, third day I use conditioner instead of shampoo. I would never have believed that I could be 3 days without shampooing hair.
I also alternate shampoos. Always buy good ones. Favs just now are Aveda Smooth Infusion and Kerastase Volumatic.
