Bar soap for shower

Can anybody recommend a good one where the scent lasts? I prefer vanilla, chocolate (cocoa butter) scents but open to any! I've been through a few soaps (nesti Dante etc) but not found one I want to stick with!

We use only L'Occitane soaps in the shower & bathroom sink. They last really well & smell gorgeous. They don't dissolve into a slimey mess like cheaper ones tend to so the extra cost is worth it- we find they last a long time

MrsWidgerysLodger · 05/01/2023 08:05

I second the l'occitane recommendation. Also have used this before which is lovely. .

What do you keep them in? I've no soap dish and got some for Christmas. Previous experience with soap dishes is that soap sits in a congealed mess, is there an alternative?

Swanna · 05/01/2023 08:21

I dont know why I didn't think of L'occitane! I love their almond stuff

@BernieWinters
I bought a draining soap dish from Amazon that sticks to the wall and that seems to work pretty well. Cheap enough to replace too

L’Occitane for sure. They often don’t have the larger size bars out on display but will get them out of a drawer if you ask.

yahpahha · 05/01/2023 08:23

I use Jo malone, smell lasts and they don't seem to wear away quickly.

FunctionalSkills · 05/01/2023 08:25

Oh we use Dove soap as love the smell! Probably not what you're after 😁

Brackenfield · 05/01/2023 08:35

I buy the French soaps in the markets when I'm there, loads of scents and they last well. I buy them online If I run out, but it's more expensive.

I keep it in one of those exfoliating cloth soap saver bags, which hangs on shower door handle, avoids the soggy mess

NegroniLover · 05/01/2023 08:36

We have a shower organiser with a special section at the bottom for soap. It's open bars so the soap can drain & dry between uses.
By the sink we have a soap dish with ridges which keeps the soap up off the bottom & any pools of water that might gather.
I also like the Jo malone soap too & hacd had that for beside the sink. The bars are too small for the shower though & we order the large size L'Occitane ones for there.

BringMeTea · 05/01/2023 08:36

For a real treat, Claus Porto. Also, I buy smaller bars as I get bored of even nice soaps after weeks and months!

NegroniLover · 05/01/2023 08:37

I hate dove - can't stand the smell or tye texture of it - sorry 😐

FunctionalSkills · 05/01/2023 08:40

We have a soap holder thing that is just like some slats so the water drains through. It was the thing I said we needed when we moved to bar soap as I didn't want it sat in soapy water/soap dish!

LionsandLambs · 05/01/2023 08:41

White company soaps are also nice as are Penhaligons but the latter are very expensive.

Magnetic soap holder. You can get nice wooden or stainless steel ones.

RampantIvy · 05/01/2023 08:54

We have a l'Occitane shop nearby, so I will have a look. I have never been a shower gel fan and have always stuck with bar soap, but have the same issue with the scent disappearing.

Re the soap dish - I have a stainless steel one that just attaches to the wall by suction similar to this:

Lush lavander bar is great.

HScully · 05/01/2023 08:58

yorkshiresoap.co.uk/ is lovely and reasonable

WeAreTheHeroes · 05/01/2023 09:02

If you have an airing cupboard, keep soap in there before you use it. It hardens it up and increases its longevity when you come to use it.

dreamingofsun · 05/01/2023 09:22

i love the handmade ones on etsy.

eurochick · 05/01/2023 11:06

I love foamie. They have quite a soft texture but the string means they don't sit in water and go mushy. The scents fit with what you mention in the OP.

Volkswagenitalia · 05/01/2023 11:08

Do people not find they get terrible soap scum using soap? I used it for a couple of years, the huge Nesti Dante ones, and loved them, but I came to realise that they were making a right mess of my shower and I'm sure the soap scum had started blocking the drain as well? I do live in a very hard water area.

SallyWD · 05/01/2023 11:13

They sell really big bars of good quality soap at TK Maxx. Like posh Italian soaps. Each bar lasts for months and smells lovely!

RampantIvy · 05/01/2023 12:28

They have a shop in York which is worth a visit @HScully

Marmitepot · 05/01/2023 12:48

The Body Shop Shea butter is really nice, especially for the price.
