During lockdown I started to feel pretty blah, so decided to invest some time and money in my skin and I think it's paid off in that I get loads of people asking me what I'm doing (friends, hairdresser, even the dermatologist 😅)

Bearing in mind that I'm old, and also not an expert, I'd break it down into 2 categories, general and specific

General:
-Choose your parents wisely
-Exercise. Increased circulation really helps. Even a walk in the fresh air or dancing around with your toddler adds up.
-Eat well overall, including enough fat and complex carbs, but keep in mind that the enjoyment from a glass of wine, a plate of chips or some chocolate (even the junky milk chocolate kind) is more important than being an absolute purist
-I don't know if collagen makes a difference to skin, but I do see a difference in my nails if I stop using it for a couple of months, so figure a scoop in my coffee isn't going to hurt, anyway.
-Whatever your weight, try not to have it fluctuate massively
-Use HRT if/when you need it
-Use sunblock every day, as part of your morning routine, like brushing your teeth, even if you're not leaving the house
-Replace hand cream with sunblock when going outside
-Whatever your skincare regimen is, use the same things on your hands, neck and chest
-If you decide to go the fillers/botox route, use the best, most qualified person you can afford. Preferably someone recommended by a friend who looks great. Tell them that you're aiming to look less tired, not younger. Only have minimal fillers and only once a year. Be generally cautious of someone who wants to inject them directly into nasolabial lines.

Specific:
-I bought a high quality LED mask and a Ziip microcurrent device and aim to use them each 2x/week
-Yes, use Tret, but don't overdo it. If it's too strong, Differin can give similar results with less irritation
-If you want to invest a bit, some places (Marion Gluck Clinic) will do a bespoke face cream that includes trace amounts of oestrogen. Not shilling for them, but have had nice results with this

-I agree with the PP who recommended EGF serum. I mix this with vitamin C serum in the morning before sunblock
-Be conservative with your foundation - I just mix a little into my sunblock (I really like Ultra Violette Screen Queen), which is enough to give a nice glow without looking heavy.

Would also recommend tailored skin care by dermatica - the first month is £2.90 for a personalised skin care routine.

Thank you to the mumsnetter who used my referral link. We both got £5 credit! Flowers

Morning

Splash water on face
Hylauronic acid (on while skin still damp)
Vitamin C
Chebula serum
Moisturiser
SPF 50

Night

Double cleanse - cleansing balm and separate soothing wash
Hylauronic acid
Matrixyl 3000
Retinol night cream

Once a week I exfoliate with a chemical exfoliant at night. On those nights, double cleanse, exfoliate, extra rich night cream (not the retinol cream).

Consistency, hydration, and SPF religiously has done wonders for my skin. I only started properly looking after ageing skin the last year or so and my skin is plump and healthy looking.

I’m using dermatica Tretinoin too I’m on my 3rd so I’m up to 0.05 tret I’m doing ok I like it and I’m pretty much used to how diligent you have to be to avoid the uglies and I kind of like the simplicity though I do love skincare so I kind of miss not using any other actives

what I wanted to ask though was this morning I watched a new video on YouTube by The Honest Chanel the presenter is 50 and reviews a lot of anti-aging and she was debating Tretinoin with 2 skin experts one was a bit negative of Tretinoin but both agreed that Tretinoin should be used as a limited time treatment and then maintain results with retinol to allow skin to recover

I don’t know what to make of this info I’m made me feel like I should stop as I’ve been using it for 6 months but I’m reluctant as I’d guess it’s a big deal to come off Tretinoin only to then want to go back to it after a period of time as all
of us who use it know it’s not an easy process getting your skin used to it

I pretty much use one pump every night I’m reluctant to stop using it as I’m liking the results but maybe I should use less I don’t know did anyone else watch or does anyone have any thoughts?

Dr. Dray who is a dermatologist has posted a response to this video, basically refuting most of what was said.

It seems the guy who is making all these claims about tretinoin has his own fat restoring cream to sell. I'm not sure if he is even a doctor, and the female expert is a doctor but not a dermatologist.

Thanks for showing me this I’ll have a watch today. I never stopped using Tretinoin but I have stopped using Dermatica and bought Retirides and Retacnyl from Farmacia Tristaina instead
