Really the only thing worth using is Tretinoin - a form of Retinol you get via a prescription service.

Other than that, cleanse, hydrate with a moisturiser and wear Spf are the main things.

I like a balm Cleanser - any will do as you wash them away, a balm saves you tugging at your skin.

Moisturiser I like La Roche Posay ones or I use pure shea butter.

For Tret you can use a service like Dermatica or Skin and Me. You send pics and the send you a formula every 4-6 weeks or so (you set the cadence)

If you want a discount code - shamelessly here is a referal link - I get some money off if you use it. I've been using Dermatica for two years and very happy.

Morning
Single cleanse - Salicylic acid cleanser
Vitamin c serum - Medik8
A simple moisturiser - La Roche Posay (which ever is on sale 🙈)
Spf 50 - Bondi Sands, La Roche Posay

Evening
Double cleanse - Cleansing balm & SA cleanser
Dermatica tret prescription
Moisturiser - La Roche Posay Cicaplast Balm

My products can vary from time to time depending on my disposable income. Always go for a product that you can afford to be generous with rather than stingy for best results. It's better to pay £7 for Bondi Sands SPF50 and be able to reapply than to spend £30 on one that you need to be sparing with in order to make it last.

BMrs · 31/12/2022 00:23

Tretinoin! Definitely. Start slow and work your way up to higher frequency and strength etc

BMrs · 31/12/2022 00:35

Sorry forgot to mention spf. The two go hand in hand ✋🏻

HalfLass · 31/12/2022 00:44

SPF every single day. I also use Bondi Sands or La Roche Posay as both are recommended by my dermatologist (I have actinic keratosis). Both fine under foundation too, if I'm wearing it for work.

Tretinoin in the evening.

That's it. I'm really lazy when it comes to beauty stuff.

Swissnotswiss · 31/12/2022 11:17

I'm in the EU and those subscription services won't send tretinoin. What's the next best thing?

Mcmcmcmc · 31/12/2022 11:25

Oil/balm/cream/milk cleanser really helped my skin look better and less dry compared to foamy cleansers.
vitamin C serum in the morning (I use Garden of Wisdom, the formula is similar to Skinceuticals but it’s about £10 or £12 per bottle).
Sunscreen every day, ideally tinted as it provides additional protection against visible light and helps prevent hyperpigmentation.
in the evening, I alternate tretinoin (I buy it when I travel abroad) with moisturiser.
I occasionally use an oil like rosehip (I like the one by Fushi) when I’m staying at home for the day, or in the evening if my skin feels dry.
I don’t smoke or drink alcohol, but I could drink more water, eat less sugar and exercise more.
I had Profhilo this year but didn’t notice a difference at all, so I won’t be having it again.

with all the above, my skin looks fine but I’m only 39 and I know things change a lot after menopause. I have noticed a slight sagging around the jowl area and some nasolabial lines, but I think the only thing that will help with those is a facelift.

Awwww yay hope you like it.

Tip I would change your frequency so it's every 5/6 weeks, I think monthly is too much

Neilsfavouritechilli · 31/12/2022 11:40

I keep it simple with cleanser and moisturiser (cheap and cheerful) but I do use dermatica tret and a seperate spf. I also have a promo code if anyone fancies it. I'm another one who delays deliveries as a tube lasts me a lot longer than a month.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 31/12/2022 11:47

www.dermatica.co.uk/referrer/WW4856 Just leaving it here if anyone fancies it. Full disclosure, I get a fiver off if you use it.

Swissnotswiss · 31/12/2022 13:02

@Mcmcmcmc Where can you get tretinoin abroad?

GettingStuffed · 31/12/2022 14:30

I'm a firm believer that there's no such thing as anti aging. What I do is try to keep my skin in the best possible condition. Morning cleanse with a double sided cloth, then dragon's blood serum and day moisturiser with dpf

Afternoon the same a day but with a nighttime moisturiser.

Thanks if i decide to buy Tretinoin i will use your referral link.
My own routine atm is too simple .its just SPF and a heavy duty oil as i have very dry skin.

NameIsBryceQuinlan · 31/12/2022 19:52

Ahh if you're very dry go easy with Tret as it does make you dry.
Have you ever tried doing a layer of vaseline over your moisturiser before bed?

I'm a big fan of this

Itsthewhitehat · 31/12/2022 20:03

I wash my face with coconut oil on a morning. Use a flannel to take it off. Vit C oil by sunday Reilly. Moisturise and spf. Then make up.

On a night I use a face wash to get my make up off (I think I need something better here) then my skin and me prescription (first month and has tret) then eye cream and face cream.

I am really happy with the skin and me. I noticed a difference quite quickly in how my skin feels. But I think I need a better cleansing routine for an evening and maybe look at different night creams. Apparently some are better than others when using tret. So I will look into that after I have worked through my stash of creams.

Spectre8 · 31/12/2022 20:10

Soap and water to wash face. Use nivea q10 night cream for moisturiser and thats it and use sunscreen in summer.

No wrinkles yet at 40 but if I'm dehydrated I see one fine line appearing between my eyebrows. So I keep hydrated

Does anyone know of any anti ageing oils that are any good for dry skin?

OP posts:
DrJump · 31/12/2022 20:42

Rosehip oil. It has low levels of Vitamin A. Its really gentle and soothing on dry skin but makes a big difference for me.

Agreed

I have a good cleanse every night, then use my hot cloth to wipe it off - my skin always feels so clean and soft afterwards. I take my time massaging it in and letting the warm water do it its job.
I then use a Q10 serum, which plumps my skin, followed by the Nivea soft moisturiser , then Khiels eye cream.

In the morning, I wet a micro fibre cloth with warm water and gently massage my face with it, then splash with cold water, add the q10 serum again, moisturiser with spf 20 (use a higher one in summer) then eye cream again.

Its a pretty simple routine I’ve used for years - I think things like regular face massages work just as well ( if not better) then products sometimes.

RandomCatGenerator · 31/12/2022 23:30

Tretinoin question: does it have any downsides or side effects? Just the amount it is mentioned on these threads makes it sound like a wonder product yet I haven’t heard of it before the last few months!

I have skin that is prone to being very dry and can be quite dull. Early thirties. I’ve never had to really think about my skin, never got spots or anything, but it’s taken a battering the last few years with pollution and baby related sleep deprivation…
