what I wanted to ask though was this morning I watched a new video on YouTube by The Honest Chanel the presenter is 50 and reviews a lot of anti-aging and she was debating Tretinoin with 2 skin experts one was a bit negative of Tretinoin but both agreed that Tretinoin should be used as a limited time treatment and then maintain results with retinol to allow skin to recover.
Apologies, I haven't watched it, but I wanted to ask - what exactly is a 'skin expert', do you mean a dermatologist? If not then what is their expertise exactly? Also, allow the skin to recover from what? If you acclimatise to tretinoin properly, which most people do after a few months - what do you need to recover from? Sorry I don't really understand their point.
I have heard dermatologists on youtube talk about tretinoin for acne use (which it was originally designed for), and they said something like once you achieve the results you want, you can go into maintenance mode or something, basically use it less but still consistently.
But most of us are using it for anti-ageing purposes, so I'm not sure how that would work if you just stopped. The results only last if you keep using it. But I suppose some people are more comfortable using retinol instead so I don't know, I mean they essentially do the same thing, but tretinoin is stronger.
