"hydrochloric acid serum"

Hyaluronic, no? Hydrochloric acid seems to be something similar to bleach and probably not helpful.

Cleanse skin- I have favourites but agree with Nadine Baggott that anything that goes down the plughole doesn't need to be spendy and doesn't sit on your skin long enough to do anything other than clean it, so any other promises are a con.
Hydrate skin-
Spf50

Tret three times a week.
Vitamin C in the morning.

The Vitamin C has probably made the biggest difference of all, but I appreciate that the tret/vit A is a long game. I used various retinols for a couple of years first. I'm 57 and my skin looks good for my age. I know it does. Does it look like 30 year old skin? No.

Which vitamin C product do you use?
I had a Vichy one, but it didn't feel nice on.

See, I loved the Vichy one (liftactiv long name thingy) but thought it was expensive for the size. I'm using the n7 now and really like it. Will definitely repurchase. Didn't like La Roche Posay, Garden of Wisdom or Timeless.

DuchessOfDisco · 02/01/2023 13:32

spf everyday
2l of water
no alcohol
no cigarettes

they are the best ideas for anti aging. But for a skin care routine:
cleanser twice a day
anti aging serum
moisturise
silk pillow case/sleep eye mask

I won’t recommend products because every skin and budget is different and tbh, I don’t think it makes a whole lot of difference really if you spend £100 or £1 on a moisturiser. Something is better than nothing.
oh and hand cream daily. Hands are really aging, and some woman concentrate so much on their face with creams, fillers, Botox etc, but they then have rough, age-spotted, dry hands.

Myjobisanightmare · 02/01/2023 13:44

I’m using dermatica Tretinoin too I’m on my 3rd so I’m up to 0.05 tret I’m doing ok I like it and I’m pretty much used to how diligent you have to be to avoid the uglies and I kind of like the simplicity though I do love skincare so I kind of miss not using any other actives

what I wanted to ask though was this morning I watched a new video on YouTube by The Honest Chanel the presenter is 50 and reviews a lot of anti-aging and she was debating Tretinoin with 2 skin experts one was a bit negative of Tretinoin but both agreed that Tretinoin should be used as a limited time treatment and then maintain results with retinol to allow skin to recover

I don’t know what to make of this info I’m made me feel like I should stop as I’ve been using it for 6 months but I’m reluctant as I’d guess it’s a big deal to come off Tretinoin only to then want to go back to it after a period of time as all
of us who use it know it’s not an easy process getting your skin used to it

I pretty much use one pump every night I’m reluctant to stop using it as I’m liking the results but maybe I should use less I don’t know did anyone else watch or does anyone have any thoughts?

I get Tretinoin from tretinoinworld dot com (I don't know if MN allows links).

It arrived in about 3 days last time - I've used them for ages and recommend them

That's where I get mine from too.

largeprintagathachristie · 02/01/2023 14:50

I'm a month in to using the Dermatica service, prompted by seeing a dermatologist about sun damage who recommended tretinoin.
Currently on a very low percentage of tretinoin, and azelaic acid.

Pigmentation on my cheeks has already improved.
Hopefully the texture of my skin on chin and sides of nose (congested, and acne damaged on my chin) will start to improve.

Here's a Dermatica referral code (and as mentioned by previous posters, it gives us both a credit of £5).
www.dermatica.co.uk/referrer/D54NQW

I have spent wasted a lot of money over the years looking for the skincare holy grail and have a drawer full of failures, so I think at a bit over twenty quid a month, Dermatica will save me money. I'm going to delay my next shipment, as I'm easing in slowly.

Apologies, I haven't watched it, but I wanted to ask - what exactly is a 'skin expert', do you mean a dermatologist? If not then what is their expertise exactly? Also, allow the skin to recover from what? If you acclimatise to tretinoin properly, which most people do after a few months - what do you need to recover from? Sorry I don't really understand their point.

I have heard dermatologists on youtube talk about tretinoin for acne use (which it was originally designed for), and they said something like once you achieve the results you want, you can go into maintenance mode or something, basically use it less but still consistently.

But most of us are using it for anti-ageing purposes, so I'm not sure how that would work if you just stopped. The results only last if you keep using it. But I suppose some people are more comfortable using retinol instead so I don't know, I mean they essentially do the same thing, but tretinoin is stronger.

@Gwenhwyfar I now use C-Glow by Geek & Gorgeous which is about £10 a bottle and is a very close dupe of Skinceuticals which is the gold standard of vitamin c (and more than 10 x the price). If you’d like to try it then pm me your address and I’ll happily send you a bottle. I ordered 2 bottles in November which went missing so they sent me 2 more then the original order arrived! They don’t want it back and I’ll never use 4 bottles in 6 months.

Did you order directly from their site?

TattiePants · 02/01/2023 17:55

Yes, they’ve just added a UK website and prior to that I ordered from their European website.

What SPF product fo you use?

Not one you can buy in UK I don't think. Basically it's from a sunscreen brand, so it's SPF with added moisturiser rather than the other way around! Then a Bondi Sands spray to top up if I'm going out in sunshine.

I am not a militant sun avoider though, I look shit in hats and I like the beach and hot weather holidays, I'm not giving those up for the sake of a few more wrinkles.

no that’s not true, multiple dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons have told me that it should be continued. Tretinoin is a chemical exfoliant which is why it works with acne and over time (at least a year) it starts to promote new collagen formation so it has to be continued if you want that to continue. I wouldn’t start with the strongest strength though- your skin has to get used to it. Tretinoin is a long game- you don’t see results in a couple of months.

Yes I’ve no intention of packing in I feel I need an award and a pat on the back for getting this far as I’ve not found it easy getting used to it

but once I’ve finished this 0.05 I think this is what Dermatica is keeping me on and I’m wondering if I can get away with not using it every night

how often are you all using your Tret?

I’ve ordered one of those LED masks too just the cheap Boots no7 as I can’t afford spendy habits

I’m starting to really feel the pressure of not using Botox I have decent skin for a 48 year I’ve used SPF every day for a decade and some sort of retinoid for a good 7 years

I’m not having a go at Botox users as I’d be being a hypocrite if I ended booking it to get it but there’s no getting away from the fact that for me it’s changed the goal posts yes my skin is glowy and I have few fine lines but I’m a bit jowly i have the marionette lines(is that what their called?) lines on my upper lip and the deep forehead lines

I’ve not a clue whether Botox would benefit me I guess it must or it wouldn’t be so popular

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/01/2023 09:22

My led mask was £50 on amazon 5 years ago and works brilliantly.

beekindx · 03/01/2023 09:25

I don't know if this is specifically 'anti-aging' but what I do is.
Morning- wash face with cerave or the clarins sensitive face wash. Moisturise with clarins moisture surge and the bare minerals organic face serum.

Evening- was face as above, moisturise with the bare minerals night cream and bare minerals face serum.

That's it.

AllDayChemist.com has been mentioned on Reddit.

I ordered some yesterday from their EU site, but it did have a note to say they wouldn't be despatched until 4th January, so maybe that's when they have new stock.
Apparently they make it fresh every week, and maybe their factory shut over Christmas or something.

I just look like myself, but fresher, if you know what I mean.
Include the anti aging skin care routine as follows:
cleanser twice a day ( facewash)
anti aging serum
Ultra moisturizing cream
Herbal sleep eye mask
The texture of my skin improved once I used to the routine. Something is better than nothing.

Greenfairydust · 04/01/2023 08:45

I always look at skincare starting from the inside: meaning you need to have a good diet, drink enough fluids and not smoke or drink to excess.

Beyond that I only use a daily moisturiser with SPF, eye-cream and a night-cream. Always remove make-up as well.

Then I do a soothing face mask once a week.
