WWW's six week ten year younger bootcamp, WEEK FIVE of 2008

Welcome to week 5 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Ooh you're goig to be Auntie WWW. some of us have already endured enjoyed half term and are already being good - but I'll stay here to do it with pleasure.

Iota · 18/02/2008 17:57

lordy lord I have fallen off the wagon - must be because it is half term

had a fabby roast duck yesterday, from the farmers market

and today we went to pizza express for lunch after the hell that is children's shoe shopping

no exercise apart from trawling round town

and loads of wine over the last few days

unknownrebelbang · 18/02/2008 21:10

Struggling to stick to bootcamp, even though I'm back at work.

Sunscreen yy
No booze. After planning an evening in bed with the champers, I ended up with half a glass of DH's wine instead.
No exercise, again. The extra hour in bed was more fun...
Not enough water.
Apply body cream no
Use hand cream yes.
Go to bed early, by 10.30pm last night
Eat healthily, soso, not enough fruit.

Feeling a bit rough today, not sure why (other than lingering cough). I need to get back on the bike/walking again, then I think I'll feel better.

'evening all. I shall be having a relaxing week too. I have just scraped 10,000 steps today including lovely sunny walk with the dog and all three DCs, none of whom complained about the length of the walk. Jelly beans were taken.

I've eaten toast & blackberry jelly, orange juice & iron supplement, jelly beans, cauliflower cheese & hot crusty bread with lots of butter, raw carrots, apple, handful of prunes/raisins, lasagne and a Cornetto. Lots of water. Not too much coffee.

My poor, sore hands are finally improving after last weeks gardening-in-the-cold extravaganza. Face seems better too - moisturiser 3 x day seems to be working.

Happy because I have no sciatica today.

Read thread properly tomorrow - I'm off to bed now.

marina · 18/02/2008 23:34

Zooming through in passing to say, nobody died, but I am reduced in girth and mental resilience after a horrific week at work, with more to come I suspect.
Will catch up properly when what is left of my addled brian has stopped whirling around like a hamster in a wheel. I am officially now ten years older.
My half-term was well and truly f*ked
Hope you all have much happier times ladies and oh, L & S, wasn't Curb Your Enthusiasm squirmtastic tonight
Live long and prosper, all

Welcome back Marina and agree, you must eat.

I am already an auntie via the sister I'm not speaking to (since last October ) but this is my littlest sister, who is about to have her first.

drank my own bodyweight in wine last night
bacon sandwich so far today
oops

winnie · 19/02/2008 12:38

I too agree we should stay here on this thread until half term is over. I am well and truly off the wagon alcohol wise and my resolve at the new year to cook something new every week (rather than the same old same old) has been the only new years resolution i've stuck too. And I've been cooking a lot of Jamie Oliver recipes which are vast and use lots of cheese and creme fraiche!! Actually that is a lie the other new years resolution I've stuck too is see my friends more and socialise more and I've been doing that too which is why my alcohol intake is up dramatically!
So I am happier but generally not doing too well on the bootcamp front.

Must try harder... again

LoveAndSqualor · 19/02/2008 14:53

Duchess, if you're suffering from dry skin on your face (or indeed anywhere), may I recommend Eucerin? It's miracle stuff, cures dry skin overnight (rather than just sticking down the flakes, like most moisturisers do).

Marina, Curb was almost unwatchable!! (actually thought DP was going to expire from laughter when Heather MM walked in). Sorry you had such a crappy week - hope that's the worst of it ...

Am currently stuffed to the gills after soup, a raspberry muffin and TWO sandwiches () for lunch. Sheesh. Otherwise, all well: bed early(ish), cycled into work, planning another early night tonight. Pelvic floor-ing whenever I remember! Roll on maternity leave, I say: eight and a half days and counting ...

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 19/02/2008 19:10

Marina, sorry you're having such a shite time. Hope it improves soon.

L&S, I'll look into Eucerin, they have free samples on that site!

Glad everyone else has/is abusing half-term, I don't feel so conspicuous.

A mere 5,300 steps today. Light mucking out and washing the car the only exercise. Had lunch at friends house. So...

I've eaten toasted bagel dripping with butter, baked potato, ham, coleslaw, pickle, bread & butter and watercress for lunch, too much coffee, raw carrot, crispy duck & pancakes, prawns with ginger & spring onion and Singapore noodles for dinner. Followed by a Cornetto and TWO doughnuts. Eeek!

I have at least kept up my water consumption and I'm getting earlyish nights although I'm not sleeping very well. Hand & face cream tick.

I may just leave the Moron off for the rest of the week - my mother is coming to visit tomorrow so coffee intake will go through the roof!

ChutneyMary · 19/02/2008 19:29

Hello ladies - not been around much using my new name but have been bootcamping-ish. Walked loads and loving my moron, but struggling with food and weight. Went back to WW this morning and it's not good, but I am trying to get back on track.

Marina, I'm sorry things are tough for you. thinking of you.

L and S, as you are with child, you can eat as much as you like of healthy stuff. And cake - babies thrive on it. If you're planning on breast feeding after the birth, you'll need to mainline hobnobs to keep your strength up. Duchess, I think 5300 is 5000 more than I managed at the same point in my last preg. You are an inspiration.

Winnie, seeing friends and going out increases your happiness count and so is to be encouraged.

Any news on the job front WWW? And how is the toss-o-meter at work? My colleagues are still being tossers but I am awarding myself a day at home ("working" but really going out for lunch and doing general sorting) by way of revenge.

Hello Pru, Iota, unknownrebel, hope you are all OK. And hello to anyone else I have missed (am small of brain and large of tum this evening). Off to hang out washing and put haddock in oven. Take care.

unknownrebelbang · 19/02/2008 19:48

lol, I've just had to go to search to remind myself who you are!

Sorry things are crud, Marina.

Hello everyone.

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • No exercise
  • Lots of weak tea
  • Apply body cream - will try to remember
  • Use hand cream yy
  • Go to bed early, midnight, but had another mini lie-in. Going to bed soon - new series of Hotel Babylon on at 9, yay.
  • Eat healthily, bit better today.
  • Be happy, feeling a bit better today. Will be exercising again by the end of the week.
bamamama · 20/02/2008 03:55

hello all, hope everyone is ok. Cake and wine is the order of the day here - dh is being an arse and has turned into a teenager as his mother is here so I've been entertaining her for nearly 2 weeks now. He owes me a pair of shoes I think.

Anyhoo, have been walking over 15,000 steps a day which has kept the worst of the cake at bay and I'm just counting down to the trip to the airport now.

Actually, it's been fine but you know, she isn't my mother (thankfully!)

Have only managed to skim the thread but www - you really shouldn't have been asked any child care related questions at interview (ex-HR manager here). So, if you didn't get the job and could be arsed to you could always kick up a discriminatory stink.

I will be back the middle of next week, ttfn.

I'd say you deserve a whole blardy outfit Bama!

Batters, have you considered using a barrier cream? and then topping up with handcream throughout the day?

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • No exercise
  • Lots of weak tea
  • Apply body cream - will try to remember
  • Use hand cream yy
  • Go to bed early, hmm. Went to bed at 9pm, but had a dreadful coughing fit later and had to get up, then I was awake half the night. Thankfully DH did the schoolrun this morning.
  • Eat healthily, not too bad.
  • Be happy, nitpicky things have irritated today, like...

Somebody has written PIG in the ice in DH's car;

There is an article about the boys in the local rag (karate-related) but it's bullshit;

I've been dragged into something at work, purely in a point-scoring exercise, rather than because it was warranted.

Oh hum, nearly the weekend.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 20/02/2008 19:15

batters - if you're washing your hands that often I'd say put any cheap handcream by the basin/sink etc as a reminder. I quite like the Dove handcreams, the dark blue 'night' one is brill.

bama - impressed with steps & MIL work!

chutney - well done for going back to WW, is it a good spur?

DH hid in study for the entire duration of my mothers visit today (so not unlike Mr bama!). I spent much of her time here wandering around the garden having my weeds pointed out to me. [rolls eyes emoticon]

I have eaten toast & peanut butter, cheese salad and bread & butter and will shortly have a baked potatoe with salad leftovers and some Cornish Yarg. Way too much coffee today but lots of water too. There is also a peach & raspberry cream sponge thing sitting in the fridge with my name on what's left of it.

Tick everything else and I had a really good nights sleep, so hurrah to that!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 20/02/2008 19:19

unknown - hope you get a better nights sleep. Was the karate article good or bad bullshit?

Sorry work is crap, seems to be a lot of it about atm. [grrr]

unknownrebelbang · 20/02/2008 19:25

It was...erm...exaggerated.

Made out they'd won more than they had.

No great shakes, but grrr.

ChutneyMary · 20/02/2008 19:26

Batters - I like the neutrogena handcream when the budget can't stretch to the clarins (which is most of the time at the oment). I would echo what Duch says about keeping it by the basin etx. I'd also keep a bottle in the sitting room / by the phone or something, so that if you are sitting down reading stories / watching TV / doing homework etc you can slap some on. My hands are shocking but perk up quite quickly when I remember to put lots on. I need to do it when I remember though as if I have to walk to a different room I've forgotten by the time I've got there.

Duch - the WW thing is a good spur as you can eat anything and everything in moderation. I went out for lunch at a friend's today and had to eat what I was given but can make up for it with a large vegetable type supper. I need the spur of standing in front of a stranger and former fatty and seeing if I have lost anything from the week before.

Your day sounds very irritating, unknown. Hope you get some rest tonight and your cough passes.

Bama you are a saint for putting up with her for 2 weeks. I agree a bit of retail at DH's expense is compulsory. I could just about manage 2hours with my MIL at the moment and that might be pushing it.

Off now to make the supper. Hope you are all well and happy. Have done 16000 steps today (in the freezing cold) so am feeling virtuous for once

marina · 20/02/2008 20:50

I have handcreams on the go by the bedside table, in my desk drawer at work, in handbag and in the downstairs loo mostly Clarins as I don't get on with the Neutrogena sadly Do also slap on a bit of Eight Hour cream at night when only dh is around to be repulsed by the odour. But hands are still wizened today, the cold dry spell is a big factor IMO
Am cautiously emerging from monstrous work scenario (systems not people thankfully) that has lasted two dire weeks. It has been a nightmare. So bootcamping has gone out of the window, except for not eating much.
Sorry to hear about dh's car ureb and your MIL woes bama - definitely agree that shoes don't begin to compensate!
I'm not WW at the moment Chutney (I had to go and have a squint to see who you were too ) but I was put onto this website Change for Life which has some good and relevant advice for me, at least, about comfort eating at times of stress and tiredness. My GP suggested it.
Scrolled back to see Iota has a paid job, congratulations (and commiserations IYSWIM )
Personally, Winnie, I think there is no meaning to wagons unless you fall off them on a regular basis

kidsrus · 20/02/2008 22:47

hi all hope you all well and enjoying the holidays or peace &quiet if yours have gone back.
duchess many thanks for getting me started.
batters my hands are very dry too from years of abuse,i have found a hand wash and cream by avon that seems to work well and doesn't sting.
the vigin vie is quite good too and not as expensive as clarins.
just topped up all my creams then had a thought "my cupboard has loads of half full sun lotion bottles i think i might use up as body lotion" has anyone else done this?
well apart from the cream egg, doughnut, biscuits and coffees i have done well today.
off to bed in a mo with dd(2)who is now a pro at applying cream, she gets them all out and tells me where they go lol
goodnight all!
